testing and commissioning according to approved design drawings, project
specification division 15 & 16 and approved material submittals for the
satisfaction and approval of the Consultant.
The work shall include not only the major items of the system, but shall also
include all the incidental sundry components necessary together with the
resources for the complete execution of the works and for the proper operation
of the installation whether or not these sundry components are stated in details.
This method statement describes safe practices specifically pertaining to the
installation of Underground Cables at all relevant areas. All the activities in this
method statement will be undertaken by a contractor’s representative /
engineer.

b. Prior to start the excavations works, contractors should carried out the route
survey of the cables MV-LV-ICT etc. and define /indicate the locations of
Manholes, cable joint splice (if any) for engineer validations and approval (refer
to section 16120_1.6).
d. Ensure that the access to work site is clear and no restrictions for proceeding of
the work.
e. Ensure all the equipment and tools are available and are in good condition.
f. Cable drum holder, Pulling socks, Cable rollers and the like shall be placed at
suitable locations and bends to execute the work in proper way to ensure that
the cables are laid smoothly without damaging the outer insulation as required.
g. Cable drum shall be transported to the work location and placed over suitable
cable drum holders, the direction of rotation of cable drum shall be as per the
manufacturer’s rotation mark on the drum for unwinding of cables as per the site
condition.
a. All testing equipment must be calibrated sealed and certified company ( KSA
/International).
b. Perform continuity check and insulation resistance (Megger) test on the cable to
be installed while it is in the drum, record the reading in appropriate forms and
should be signed by testing engineer, testing should be in accordance to project
requirement.
c. The tensile force would applied during cable pulling positions must be
compatible with mechanical strength of the cables.

b. The service trench will be excavated to the specified depth and length .All loose
rock will be removed, excavation work will be done by Civil team as per MS #
MI-A6-A1-C00.00-C0-MS-01-05-00-A and , as per approved drawings.
c. 150 mm or as per the depth specified on the approved IFC drawings bed of
sand of approved dune sand is to be laid. Sand bedding work will be done by
civil team per MS # MI-A6-A1-C00.00-C0-MS-01-05-00-A and as per approved
IFC drawings.
i. The electrical M.V cables are laid direct buried above the sand bedding, pulling
cables manual or by pulling machines, with using cable rollers.
ii. Lubricants are to be used for pulling cables if character of pull would otherwise
damage conductor insulation or jacket.
iii. The distance between the trench wall and center of cable 150 mm and
between cables 300 mm from center to center or as per the approved IFC
drawings
i. Lubricants are to be used for pulling cables if character of pull would otherwise
damage conductor insulation or jacket.
ii. The electrical L.V cables are laid direct buried above the sand bedding, pulling
cables manual or by pulling machines, with using cable rollers.
iii. The distance between the trench wall and center of cable 100 mm and
between cables 1 DIA of the cable from edge of the cable to edge of the next
cable or as per the approved IFC drawings.
iv. Whenever more than one cable is laid / run side by side direct in ground,
Approved marker tag with cable identification details shall be permanently
attached to the cables in the manholes / pull pits/ joint pits/ entry points in
buildings/ open ducts etc. before trenches are backfield.
vi. Primary and secondary cables shall be terminated with heat shrinkable
terminations or other types as per cable manufacturer recommendations, avoid
splices as much as possible.
vii. The contractor shall make accurate measurements to determine cable length
after agreement of actual cable routs with satisfactory of engineers and shall
include allowances necessary to cover cutting and snaking in the trench
(Hence cable schedule +cutting list is required).
c. M.V. and L.V. duct bank under road crossing and where is required:
i. Civil team will prepare frame work for the duct bank as per MS # MI-A6-A1
C00.00-C0-MS-01-05-00-A and as per approved sections details and IFC
drawings.
ii. Electrical team will install UPVC pipe as per the approved sections details and
IFC drawings
iv. Civil team will implement the pouring of electrical ducts UPVC pipe applications
red painting on top of concrete electrical duct concrete as per MS # MI-A6-A1-
C00.00-C0-MS-01-05-00-A and as per approved sections details and IFC
drawings.
v. Cables laying inside the duct banks would be executed by electrical team.
iii. Installations of approved concrete tiles in case of direct buried cables , and all
backfilling works will be done by ABV civil team with fully coordination of
Electrical team works will be implemented in conformance with project
requirements, specifications in conjunction to local and international standard
refer to Division 16, Division 15 and SWBD.
iv. Installation concrete tiles on top of the sand encasement for direct buried
Cables.
v. Civil team will back fill above the concrete tiles, or duct bank 250 mm or as per
mentioned in IFC approved drawings with approved back filling material.
vi. Installation of approved red designated warning tape above the back filling
Indicating the underground system if MV or LV cables.
viii. After installation warning tape, civil team will complete the back filling with
natural soil (Approved Backfilling materials) up to G.F.L as per MS # MI-A6-
A1-C00.00-C0-MS-01-05-00-A and as per approved IFC drawings.
ix. Electrical team will ensure that the works are carried out in a safe manner by
coordinating with the safety officer.
x. Electrical team will ensure that inspection and test plan for installation of
underground cables is followed.
In manholes and hand holes train cables around walls by longest route from
entry to exit and support cables at intervals adequate to prevent sag, as per the
approved IFC drawings.
