TEST TERMINATION/CONNECTION OF
ELECTRICAL WIRING/ELECTRONIC
CIRCUIT
What I Need to Know
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
demonstrate an understanding of concepts and underlying principles in terminating
and connecting electrical wiring and electronics circuits which will equip and enable
you to demonstrate proper termination and connection of electrical wiring and
electronics circuits.
What I Know
Let us determine how much you already know making splices and joints. Take this
test.
Direction: Identify/Name the Type of Electrical Splices and Joints. Write your
answer on your notebook.

Lesson TEST TERMINATION/CONNECTION
1 OF ELECTRICAL
WIRING/ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS
When working with electronic equipment or with electrical wiring, it may from
time to time become necessary to splice or join wires together. Splices and joints are
essentially the same thing. Several different methods of doing this exist. The
fundamental necessities of an effective splice include making sure the wires are
securely fastened to each other even without solder and that they are well-soldered
to avoid corrosion. All wire joints must also be taped with electrical tape after
soldering.
What’s In
Learn how to perform the different types of electrical splices and joints. This
is your chance to show your workmanship skill and creativity.
What’s New
Let us find out how much you already know about the lesson given this situation.
Direction: Without using your soldering skill, what will you do if you encounter this
kind of situation, how will you connect these 2 wires? Enumerate the steps.
2
What Is It
Splices are therefore most often used when structural elements are required
in longer lengths than the available material. The most common form of the splice
joint is the half lap splice, which is common in building construction, where it is
used to join shorter lengths of timber into longer beams.
The connections must be well made and the wires tightly joined to prevent a
loss of voltage to the device powered. In high current situations a poor connection
causes heat at the connection and oxidation of the wires and no more or intermittent
connections. Most problems in electrical is not a short but: an open connection.

What’s More
Direction: Given a simple circuit, a battery (source), wire, and a bulb, light up the
bulb by connecting the open portion of the circuit. After learning the different types
of electrical splices and joints, what type of electrical splices and joints will you use
in this kind of circuit? Why? Perform this activity. Submit your finished output with
your module. Use the performance score card found on the next page.

What I Have Learned
What I Can Do
Direction: From the given Performance Score Card below, perform at least 3 types
of electrical splices and joints using any unused electrical wire available at home.
Mount and label your output on a cardboard.
