What do you understand by term AR and VR?

By- Aviral

Before we get into it first we should know the full for of these terms.

AR-Augmented Reality.
VR-Virtual Reality.
Now the question arises what these terns mean.

What is AR?
In simple words Augmented Reality is mixture of real world and digital world.
Or if we elaborate more than enhancing reality using computer generated
graphics and information.so after clearing our basic what AR is next question
that comes in our mind is…

How AR works or working of AR.

In most of the cases pre-defined algorithm are used to carry out task. And in
other cases it uses deep learning and machine learning algorithms to perform
task. Object recognition, text recognition and classification plays a major role
in working of AR.

Now our next question is are we using AR in daily life? And the
answer is Yesssssss
Wonder why I wrote a big yes let me explain it to you.
Most of the people use snapchat not to chat with others but because of its
addictive filters that attracts and addict users to it. Now you would be thinking
which technology is used to make those filters…. The answer is AR. Do you
remember that doggy filter which makes your face look like a cute dog I think
that was the first filter that got trendy because of its perfect AR calibration.

Other examples of Augmented Reality are:-

 Brands like apple and asus are using it on wider scale apple for helping
designers and asus to amaze its customer.
 Brands like kinder Joy kids favourite brand is now using AR in its app to
provide better experience to children’s/consumers.
 AR is also used in movies production or in technical words for VFX to
mesmerize your experience and give you the realistic feel ever.
 Last but not the least example of AR is "Google AR Home" people use it
to learn about something they can't access at that time.
I think now you have enough information about AR now it’s time to learn
about VR.

What is VR?
Virtual Reality as name suggest it’s a reality but it is virtual and what does virtual
mean? A fully computer generated world that is so detailed that seems like it’s
real. If I elaborate then VR is an alternate world which can be accessed by using
VR headsets and if you want to take best experience than you might need some
additional accessories like VR Controllers. Haptic Gloves, Reality Chairs, VR
Treadmills.

How VR works?
VR works solely on VR headsets which use some principles of optics to make
you feel like you are in another world. Most basic and affordable type to
experience VR is get Google cardboard and put your mobile inside it by setting
it to VR mode and then enjoy the virtual world. With principles of optics VR
also uses gyroscope and haptic motors. I don’t think I need to tell u about
gyroscope as PUBG players know a lot about it. Haptic motor is kind of
vibrating motor that gives you feel of whenever you get hit in VR world.

Examples of Augmented Reality are:-

 Most common examples of VR are exploring 360’ videos using VR
headsets.
 Playing roller coaster or haunted house game using VR headsets.
 Games are now widely played on VR systems public favourite Youtubers
like PewdiePie and Carryminati are seeing playing on VR systems.
 Social media giant Facebook is now shifting in VR word they also
changed their parent name to Meta to kick-start the METAVERSE.
 VR is also used to train pilots before they fly their first flight to assure
their security
 It’s now widely used in Education and training too.
Difference between AR and VR.
AR VR
It’s a mixture of Real world and It’s a complete virtual
Digital world environment.
In AR User always have a sense In VR, visual senses are under
of presence in the real world control of the system
AR is 45% virtual and 55% real. VR is 85% virtual and 15% real
AR requires high speed VR requires at least stable
internet.(>100Mbps) internet speed.(>50Mbps)
No need of external devices. Need of external device. I.e.
VR headsets.
With AR, users are still in touch By using VR technology, user is
with the real world while isolated from the real world
interacting with virtual objects and immerses himself in a
nearer to them. completely fictional world.
It is used to enhance real and It is used to enhance fictional
Virtual worlds. reality for the gaming world.
