What’s In

In your Module 3, we tried to analyze the market need. We identified the

customer needs namely the physical needs and the psychological needs. Try to recall
the lesson by doing activity 1.

Activity 1: Because You’re Worth It!

Write PN if what is being referred to is Physical Need and PS if it is
Psychological Need.
_____ 1. Rasel’s hair is already long. She needs to go to the parlor.
_____ 2. She preferred David’s Salon at SM because of its good customer service.
_____ 3. After going to the salon, she felt hungry. So, she dropped by Jollibee to
eat.
_____ 4. Although she wanted to eat pizza at Shakey’s, she chose Jollibee because
it is much cheaper.
_____ 5. Finally, she needs a ride home so she took a taxi.

What’s New
Now that you have screened your proposed product or service, it is time to
select the best one that would meet the market need or the customer needs. But
before we go through that, answer Activity 2.
Activity 2: Believe in Endless Possibilities!
If you were to select among the products below to sell online, which do you
think is the best one to meet the market need and why?

1. Laundry soap 2. T-shirt 3. Plants 4. Cellphone sling bag 5. Chili sauce

___________________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________________

7
What’s In It
Just Do It! The reason we analyzed the market need in your previous
lesson is for you to be able to select the best product or service that will
meet the need. Remember, your aim as an entrepreneur is to satisfy and
delight your customer with the product/service you wanted to offer. As it is
said, the market is in the hands of the customer and the customer is always right.

Guide in Selecting the Best Product/Service to Offer in the Market

1. It is affordable to develop and prototype.

• The purpose of testing a prototype, or an early sample, is to make sure time

and money go into creating the RIGHT product.

• And when you test a prototype, making design changes is fast and easy. In
the long run, it will save you time, money, and headaches.

• Selecting a product/service which is affordable to develop and prototype

lowers the cost and ensures profit.

2. It is affordable to scale to mass production.

• Mass production enables the entrepreneur to produce goods at a faster pace,

distribute those goods more widely, and therefore increase availability and
enable more sales.

• Having more products available for sale on a wider basis, versus products
made one-by-one for a specific customer, enabled entrepreneurs to ultimately
cut costs.

• With the impact of economies of scale—cost benefits businesses enjoy when

production becomes more efficient—entrepreneurs were able to mass-produce
products, cut costs, and still make a profit.

3. It has a potential for high profit margin.

Since online selling is now a mega trend, it is vital that your e-commerce is
capable of picking the right product/service to sell. Select the best
product/service that can generate a high return on investment. There are things that
need to be kept in mind when it comes to selling products, and these are the
following:

• Avoid fragile items and easy to ship

• Avoid large products

8
• Avoid timeless items
• Avoid in season items

4. It has no dominating competitors.

Do not mimic your competitors’ product. Select the best product that stands
out or outperform your competitors’. Refer to the unique selling proposition of your
product/service.

5. It is easy to reach market.

6. It solves a customer pain point.

Solving a customer pain point will always be an effective way to develop a
product people need.

7. It appeals to enthusiastic hobbyists.

When consumers are passionate about a particular trade or hobby, they’re
usually more inclined to invest money to get the exact product they want.

8. It goes with your personal passion.

Using your know-how to create and position a unique product can be extremely
profitable.
9. It considers your personal experience.
Maybe you have a skill or a particular set of experiences that makes you more
knowledgeable than the average person on a particular topic. Turning your expertise
into your own business is a smart way to enter the market with a leg up that isn't easy
for others to duplicate or copy.

10. It has recurring revenue.

Select a product or service that your customers can keep purchasing on a

predictable basis. Meaning, you are able to generate income that’s reliable and
consistent month after month. It gives business owners financial peace of mind.

Choosing the right product or product category can be instrumental to

your success. The products you choose will shape your entire business, from
marketing to shipping, to pricing, to further product development.

9
What’s More

Activity 3: X Marks The Spot!

Mark a product or service which is most likely to be selected as the best one
to meet the market need.
After their screening activity, the Entrepreneurship class were asked to present the
product each one selected for their online selling.
______ 1. Christmas Season is fast approaching. Anna selected from her Ideas List
the Christmas tree decorations made out of pine cones.
______ 2. Since Carlo is an art enthusiast, he chose to sell bead necklaces and arm
bands with his own original design.
______ 3. Applying what she learned in Cookery, Grace chose cupcakes with glitter-
bomb frosting.
______ 4. Elsa believed that milk tea is now the trend in the market. So, she selected
milk tea just like what she tasted from Cha Tien Milk Tea Shop.
______ 5. Since environment clean-up and sanitation is now a must, Mary Rose
sewed clean-up rugs to be sold online.

Activity 4: Picture Analysis!

This a picture of “Kini-ing”. “Kini-ing" is a preserved meat, originally pork, that
undergoes smoking using pine wood. The meat is hanged above the fire used in
cooking at a traditional kitchen that uses wood for three to four days.
Such a process of preservation has been practiced by several villages in the
Cordillera as a means of preserving the meat from butchered animals, making them
last for many months, ready for the rainy season.
The Cordillera adapts meat preservation which is all part of the native delicacy.
Whether it is "Kini-ing", "etag" or "kinuday", they all come in pork, which is a "necessity"
during gatherings.
Look closely at the picture then answer the guide questions below.

10
Guide questions: Will this be one of the best products to be offered in the market?
Why or why not? What should be improved with this product?

What I Have Learned

Activity 5: Write It Down!

Choose two statements below then write down an explanation of what you
understand through an example.

1. The success of your business relies on the right product you choose for the market.
2. Entering the product in the market with your own expertise makes it hard for the
competitor to imitate your product.
3. Products mass produced for sale on a wider scale enabled entrepreneurs to
ultimately cut costs.
4. Prototyping will help you save time and money in case there is a need to change in
design or quality.
5. There is tight competition in ecommerce so it is important to select the best
product/service to meet the customers’ need.

2.

What I Can Do
