1. INTRODUCTION:
Social media is a platform allow user to have communication, share information with each other
and to create content.
There are many forms of using social media including blogs, Micro-Blogs, WIKIS, Social
networking sites, Instant messages. This is particularly useful for our youth for the use of virtual
world. Social media refers to means of interaction among people in which they exchange
information and ideas in virtual communities and network.
Emergence and rapidly change information and communication technology has a significant
impact on social networking/ social media. Now just with a press on a button we can see our near
and dear one on the screen does not matter where he/she lives [1].
The use of social networking sites such as Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and
Twitter offer youth a portal for entertainment and communication which permits consumers to
keep in touch with others and reshaping their daily life. Though there are many positive benefits
and impacts of using social medias, the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal has lightened
deliberations about our lives for the place of social media and social networking sites [2]
Facebook is popular and its growth has been rapid around the world [3]. As of the third quarter of
2021, the number of Facebook active users (MAUs) worldwide is approximately 2.91 billion
(Facebook, 2021) [3]
Students are fond of social media for many reasons. Firstly, social networks give a feel of
freedom to do whatever they want to upload what they want and talk to whom they want. They
can make new friends and comment on the post’s inbox by them. Social media has given
students a place where they can create virtual community that may create conflicts in the real
world. It gives them the liberty to fascinate themselves with more freedom. It was just impossible
just a decade before for young attentions to generate a digital appearance of their activities
through such an unprompted medium [4].
Researchers take part in research works on social media how people are being so attached with
this day by day. They have been trying to figure out the nature and quality of the activities
conducted on social media. There are significant differences between online and offline
relationship [5].
Now students are the largest user of social media which influencing them to change their daily
life, behaviors, community approaches, public life and the bodily events. It has become an
immense challenge for the society to address this issue and strongly recommended each
member of the society should pay more concern in this substance [6].
Facebook, Messenger, Imo, WhatsApp and Viber have rapidly transformed ever-present in recent
couple of years among all age group particularly young groups mostly maladaptive due to
extreme uses [7, 8].
It has been identified following a recent research that excessive browsing of social networking
sites (SNS) causes an impact on interactive addiction, categorically 10% of students endorsed a
set of requirement habitually thought of as characteristic of material addiction, including

acceptance, or an increase in time spent on the sites, removal, or annoyance or touchiness when
incapable to access these websites, and desires for SNS use [9].
Now social media has ignited as a type of online dissertation where people generate content,
share it, and bookmark it, and network at a remarkable rate. Because of its ease of use, rapidity
and reach, social media is fast shifting the community dissertation in society and locale trends
and schedule in topics that range from the situation and politics to technology and the
amusement industry [10]
. The widespread use of social networking websites has converted global situation in the last
couple of years. What happening out as a hobby for computer knowledgeable persons has
become a social standard and lifestyle for people from all over the world [11]. Young generation
has particularly incorporated these sites to attach with their peers, share material, reinvent their
behaviors, and setting their social lives [11]
Person to person communication and communication through internet and social networking
websites are two completely different platform of sharing ideas and views. Throughout the
communication using these websites, they trail instant message (IM) and chatting as well as
status or Twitter updates to conversation to friends and direct themselves [12].

2. PROBLEM STATEMENTS:
Social media is widely popular among youngsters and the students, students of the university and
colleges are extremely engaged with it as it is useful in one sight the other sight of it is very
dangerous some people have to face cyberbullying through social media use many cons of the
social media target young minds through social media many of people facing dark side of social
media many of them facing harassments through it and in the end it may cause of suicide. As it is
particularly useful for studying and stay updated but the excess use of it can cause more
problems and the person will become the patient of anxiety, depression and many other mental
illnesses. We shouldn’t make our life dependent on social media don’t have to upload any
sensitive information at any networking site beware of cons of social media who are ready to
target their prey spend less time on social media as it is making the world advance beside it many
dangerous peoples are sat to target the innocent one’s.
Isolation. According to the research, excess use of Social Networking sites (SNS) may increase
the feeling of loneliness among students they become conversely isolated.
Depression and Anxiety. As social media impact depression and anxiety toward students they
become mentally depressed, stressful and sad.
Social media makes youngsters less socialize they usually don’t prefer to meet anyone face to
face they usually like to contact them through social media, and this is ruining their social life.
The rapid advancement of media technology has had a significant impact on the way people
communicate daily. The growing dimension of the use of the social media among the youth of
today cannot be over Emphasized. Over the years, social networking among students has
become increasingly popular. It is a way to make connections, not only on campus but with
friends outside of school. Social networking is a way that Helps people feel they belong to a
community. Due to the increased popularly of it, economists and professors Technology such as
internet is one of the most important factors that can influence educational performance of
Students positively or adversely. Many parents and guardians are worried that students are

spending too much Time on Facebook and other social media sites and have not enough time to
study. Though parents are worried About students’ constant use of the social media sites, many
students continue to use these sites daily. It is against this background that this research is being
conducted to learn the impact of students’ use of social media sites on their academic work.

4. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:


4.1 Gender Distribution:
The starting of our questionnaire is with gender distribution. Data was congregate even handed
from both sex groups to make the study prototype. The statics of the questionnaire say it has
been reached as there were 47% male and 53% female respondents. The comprehensive date is
show in figure 1.

Age classification of those who were engaged in the
survey is from less than 18-year-old 47%, 18 – 21 years old
29%, 22 – 27 year and above 24%

4.3 Social Media Platform:


The following figure will illustrate the statics of which platform people use the most. The sample
data were found by the survey which was done by 127 students. It shows the behavior of the
social networking sites users. We have attached the figure and see the statics there are majority
of the TikTok users which show this Platform is the most used platform. Then the people used the
most popular app which is YouTube. And the third is which we see that our students used the
most is Instagram.

4.4 Primary Reasons of Social media Use:


The use of social media on students is to get express themselves. They can be updated with their
friends by simply going to their profile and checking their profile. They also get to keep
themselves updated with other by posting their own pictures. In our study the use of social media
by students are. Information in Table show the reasons for use of social media by students. The
table manifests that most of the users use social media for reading documentary.

4.5 Hours spending on social media:


Below fig. show about how much time people spending time on social media meant how long
they were login onto site. On the scale of 100, 60% of the people spending more than 3 hours on
social media on social media because they have become addicted of social networking sites
unfortunately, they are unable to manage their social and educational life.

4.6 Social Media Helpful or not?


According to the respondents 51% says that social media is helpful for them and on the other
side about 38% respondents not agreed that the social media is helpful and some of them about
11% also said maybe it means they are not confirmed about it is helpful or not. Concluded that
social media is particularly helpful.

4.7 Data usage:


Most of the respondent (44.4%) answered that they use unlimited internet package on their
mobile phone. It is observed that out of the students half of the total people use additional 10GB
or less than 10GB each month, which
leads us to the conclusion that there Data usage
are not heavy data users who use the
internet in multiple apps for daily 18%

According to the survey, concluded that mostly people use cellphone for using social media
rather than laptop or personal computer and tablet.

4.9 Social media impacts on students’ health:


Many of students have to face health issues because of excess use of social media most
common answer we get from student about health impact is Eye issues, obviously harmful rays
which comes out from the devices like cellphone are injurious for eyes health so because of
excess use of it is the cause of bad health of eyes along this many of students reply that use of
social media make them depressed and also affect on their body posture.

4.10 Social media sites are safe or not?


According to the respondents’ answers 82% of them thinks that use of social media is safe but on
the other hand some of them about 18% also said that this isn’t safe for use, concluded that the
use of social media is particularly safe.

According to the survey we did the result is social media is important for students, as 74%
responses are on yes and 14% on maybe and 12% on Not at all:

4.13 Ages from which students are relate to social media:


From the age students are relate to social are figure out in 5 types. First one is those who started
with at the age of 16 quantity of persons are (25%) which is shown with the sky-blue color in fig: 2
Second category started with the age of 14-15 shown with yellow color. Third one is started with
age of 12-13 shown with grey color. Fourth one is started with the age of 10-11 shown with the
orange color. In the survey see that this is the age from which most of the people started using
social media the last one is started with the age of 9 shown with Dark blue color

4.14 Prefer to Interact with People on social media Rather than Face to Face:
As we all know there are two types of people are find on internet one are introverts and second
are extroverts introverts are those who prefer to talk through messages rather than face to face
because of shyness and extroverts are the opposite of introverts so we see in the figure clearly

4.15 Effects of social media:


Nowadays in every one’s life social media have become an inevitable part. So, the effects of
using social media sites on the community. It is seen in the fig that 37% students mentioned
social media affects partly on them. And 29% mentioned that social media affect very much on
them 20% are those who’s doesn’t affect them through social media at all. And the 14% are those
who say that social effect not at all on them means they did not depend on them.

4.16 Students Point of view for Using Cell Phones:


By the help of the cell phones students now can find venues where they can go and interact with
others physically as the students answer in the questionnaire that they used social media to stay
connected with world. Students also post their own pictures online so that others can know about
them and what they are doing it is also students’ point of view that they are using cell phones for
photo shoots. The other point of view is the cell phone is useful for business many students own
their small business by using cell phones Example Freelancing. Some of the students says that
they are fine funny and entertainment content using cell phone. The findings tell us that most of
the students are sensible and interested in using mobile phone for accessing social media in their
daily life.

4.17 Earn money through social media:
Social media seems to be growing day by day. And with it come workable opportunities for
individuals and business too. Nowadays by the help of social media many people can earn
money especially the students getting more opportunities from social media they can earn money
by owning someone brand on social media or own a store on AMAZON and they receive a
handsome paid for this job. The survey data show that 41% students are earn money and 42%
are not getting earn. From the study we see that, among student’s social media is more popular
in common use rather than earning money from it.

4.18 Social Media Impact on Student Life:


In the data it is shown that students have answered an open-ended question about the positive
and negative impact on their life for using social media. Concerning the effect of social media
sites, the responses which are obtained from students are shown in table. By using social media
students get help to be in contact with their friends’ other impacts are like some get motivated
through social media some are falling in love by using social media some students say that they
improve their English grammar using social media so it’s a good impact. The reality of this is that
most of the respondents from the two Universities accept the fact that social media has a both
positive and negative impact on them.

As we know social media is useful for education and our respondents also make up a mind that
social media helpful for them about education, they somehow depend on social media for self-
education, and this is the most beautiful fact about social media platforms:

5. CONCLUSION:
Recently there has been a massive evolution in social media, in the way by which people communicate or
socialize. From the study we saw that the higher proportion of students accessed to internet through
mobile phone leading. social media is used on daily basis and time span in per day is three hour or higher
by most of the students. A considerable number of students used social media for to know world views
and news and for taking knowledge, chatting. In our findings about social media practices by the students
TikTok is immensely popular social media platform among students followed by YouTube and Instagram.
Social media is taken as an entertainment task by the students, and they prefer to update their status by
using social media sites. Most of the students feel partly effect of social media on their life. Some of the
respondent has positive impact, because social media may be utilized for various communication with
others and for news updates in different circumstances, the negative impact of social on student life are
that it badly affects their studies and wastes their time a lot. The study also concluded that there is no
seriously negative impact of social media on students’ life. If the students’ life has not been affected
negatively this will lead to healthy life and so might enhance and influence the learning process, occur and
meaning will be constructed. The study also recommended the encouragement of students to continue
using social media to exchange social issues among them and to form social groups to collaborate on
specific issues. The social media should be used such a way that it never hampers education or social lives
of students.
