Q.1 The Smart Devices industry has complaints on voltage sag experienced by their factory, this
issue has been caused some of their machines to malfunction. The factory is supplied from a
substation PMU-156. Referring to the utility company, the Power Quality Monitoring device
has been installed at PMU-156 for two months. Figure Q1 shows the plot of events during
the two months (60 days) of the monitoring period. The Ride-Through Test (RTT) was
performed on the critical factory equipment and the result of immunity level for Equipment
Under Test 1, EUT1, and Equipment Under Test 2, EUT2 are also shown in Figure Q1.

Q.3 Figure Q.3 shows the different underlying causes lead to events in different parts of the
magnitude-duration plot.
Figure Q.3
(a) At which number of areas, fault has a much smaller field of influence and the severity
of the disturbance will be moderated considerably by neighboring circuits.
(1 mark)
(b) At which number of areas of fault is likely to result in a voltage sag that is observed over
a very wide area, even at a distance of some hundred kilometers.
(1 mark)
(c) Explain the important to have this magnitude duration plot

Q.4 A radial power system supplying an industrial customer with several large ac and dc adjustable-
speed drives is shown in Figure Q4. The dc and ac drives are fed via dedicated transformers at
420 V and 660V, respectively. System information including source impedance, and feeder
impedance are provided in Table Q4a and Table Q4b. For this case the load current before and
during the fault is neglected. Assume that the pre-event voltage is exactly 1 pu;
