Introduction

For most graduating senior high school students, their last year in school is the most exciting and
memorable experience. It made them understand the value of time and the proper way of managing
their stress and pressure in different aspects of their life. It is definitely the period where the students
found themselves and getting ready for the next chapter of their lives. The prospect of entering college
is one of the chapter they are about to consider. College life experience is truly one of a kind. You can
travel to lots of places, had new experiences and learned many new things but before that, a student
needs to make a big decision first in choosing his/her college major. It is one of the most important
decision an individual can make.

The process of choosing a college major can be very convoluted. It is a cause of great anxiety
because for most, it will likely be one of the most important life decisions they make. ( Edmonds, 2012 )
There are also many things to consider like the type of school, it's location and the new environment
you are about to choose. Jerry Shaw (2017) stated that students often consider the location, programs,
and campus advantages when choosing a college, but they shouldn’t forget about the financial factors
involved. Finances greatly affect a student’s functions and accomplishments during and after college.
Reading literature, obtaining information from school websites, going through the interview
process, and visiting campuses help in making the right choice. Students and their parents, however,
should also take into account the money that will be shelled out for a good education.Parents and
students might focus on tuition when evaluating the cost of a college education, but there are many
other fees involved. Expenses can include costs for textbooks, housing, food, parking, and other various
things. Certain college courses have fees for supplies or equipment. Then there are costs for health
services and extracurricular activities, as well as different expenses for living on- or off-campus, which
should also be factored in. Before a student even enters college, application fees can take a bite out of
finances. Some students intend to apply to different schools, which have high and low fees. If so, they
may want to avoid schools with higher application fees if they know they have better chances of getting
into.

Determing the decisions for youths career requires serious reflection that can have many factors
that might affect one's decision. In addition, Kaneez and Medhla (2018) supported that parental
influence have significant effect on the career choice of their children. The kind of career/decisions that
all g12 graduates of senior high school can be considered by their family. One of the important elements
to making decisions for their college courses is providing some specific choices they needed to finalize
what courses they really preferred

As observed, the students that usually took the course that they don’t like to affect their grades.
For example, as a researcher, we even encounter having a hard time on deciding what course to take
and ended up having the course that our parents wants us to take. At first, it was good for taking the
course but as the time goes by it will become dull finding out that it does not meet your interest. Hence,
the grades will then become little and ended up thinking of shifting from another course. There are
several factors that impact the students from high school seniors’ decision in what course they should
take.Which could affect a student’s decision in finding a decent course, there is still a relevant factors in
it.

Choosing the right college course involves considerable thoughts, taking into accounts all
variables that could have an impact on your decision. Malubay, Mercado and Macasaet (2015) noticed
the primary factor affecting the decision of freshmen students in taking up specified courses or
programs is the economic factors that include economic stable wages and in-demand jobs. Selecting
your college course wisely is essential for protecting your future. Therefore when choosing their college
courses, all grade 12 students should also consider jobs with steady incomes.

The choice of career is a delicate issue for students which requires caution and serious
considerations – factors affecting their choices which includes the interpersonal and intrapersonal
relationships. The kind of career the youths pursue can affect their lives in many ways. Hence, the
following studies revealed some of their factors affecting students’ decision in career selection.

According to Montijo (2020), Interpersonal relationships are the strong bonds we have with
individuals who are closest to us. Interpersonal relationships teach us about ourselves. People around us
shape important components of our personalities and value systems from an early age. They can
provide us with a sense of purpose and direction. In addition, Cherney (2019) stated that every
partnership that meets your bodily and emotional requirements is an interpersonal relationship. These
are the people you spend the most time with in your life. While love connections are interpersonal, so
are family members and close friends. There is also the concept of secondary interpersonal
relationships. These include acquaintances, neighbors, and those with whom you have regular contact.
To summarize, you have some sort of interpersonal contact with everyone you know.

Some crucial features of interpersonal relationships,  for example, teacher-student relationships

and friendship quality, may predict adolescents' social adaptation by positively impacting their
perceptions of school climate. Problematic interpersonal relationships, on the other hand, are more
likely to lead to depression and be perceived as a source of stress (Zhang et al., 2021). Positive
interpersonal relationships have been presented as a stress and risk buffer, task assistance, emotional
support in daily life, companionship in shared interests, and a foundation for social and emotional
development. It has also been found to have a positive impact on students' motivation, engagement,
and achievement through its positive influences on other self-processes related to academic outcomes
(Zandvliet, 2014).

Japitan (2019), showed that both college and non-college students who participated in the
study agreed that parents are the most important or influential person when choosing their course of
study and college or university because parents view them as their primary source of finance and
typically seek advice from them because they believe they have the necessary knowledge or experience
with regard to higher education, and therefore parents are viewed as a credible source. In addition,
Relatives are one of the reasons that senior high school students consider when choosing a college
course because they give suggestions and share their own experiences, and students hold up their
relatives as role models when they have accomplished something in life.

This factor influences students' decision-making while selecting a course since, as a teenager,
it's crucial to feel included in a group. When a student consults his or her friends with all of their
decisions, several outcomes may result. Friends can sometimes influence your life decisions. For
instance, if the majority of your friends decide to enroll in a business-related course, your need to fit in
with the group may influence your decision and encourage you to choose the degree that their want as
a friend.

Similar findings were found by Dagang and de Mesa (2017), who noted that parents have a
significant impact on their children's decision to attend postsecondary education. The reverence for
elders is firmly ingrained in Filipino culture, which explains why parents have such a powerful influence
over their children's decisions. Children in Filipino families are financially dependent on their parents,
which accounts for their deference to their parental authority and the limited impact of outsiders like
peers, friends, and family. The cost of tuition was another consideration, then scholarships.

Intrapersonal communication can be defined as communication with one's self, and that may
include self-talk, acts of imagination and visualization, and even recall and memory (McLean, 2005).
Based on the most recent Ahmed, Sharif, and Ahmad (2017), students' choice of a certain location and
subject was largely influenced by their enthusiasm for the subject rather than the ease of their grades,
their financial situation, or their employment prospects. Okiror and Otabong (2015) claim that students'
choices were influenced by their perceptions of how easily accessible they thought job and scholarship
opportunities were in a certain department. They also stated that students' decisions were influenced
by the perceived availability of the employment and scholarship opportunities available in a certain
department, as well as the students' grade point averages, student at the moment choosing the
possibilities. Moreover, as said by Sabir, Ahmad, Sharif, and Ahmad (2013), students evaluate university
reputation and interest in the subject and employment prospects as the key influencers, while the
obvious element the least significant variables in choosing a course are simplicity and career advice from
the school.

Students in grade 12 may have strong opinions about colleges, but selecting one is a further
story. Indeed, practical guidance for the broadest range of faculty who wish to foster their students' civic
skills by incorporating civic responsibility ideas and activities into their college courses, as well as easy-
to-use applications and advice for writing college application essays, requesting recommendations,
visiting colleges, and using the applications. Everyone stands to gain from their academic
accomplishment, so maintain a high standard of academic performance. They need to discover
fulfillment, self-actualization, and a feeling of purpose in order to survive in a very difficult environment.
The year that truly matters is this one. Align your educational schedule with your leisure and
extracurricular activities. Keep up with or continue to raise your grade point average. Your grade point
average should be trending up, as colleges like to see this.

Ouano, Torre and Japitan (2019) stated that career choice decision is not an easy task, yet at one
time or the other, individuals are faced with the task of making choice in career, preparing for it, starting
it, and making progress in it. This choice point is undoubtedly the most critical stage. This is because
making a wrong career decision can make one's happiness in life as this could result to career
maladjustment. Inappropriate career decision made may spell doom not only for the individual but also
the entire society.

Above all discussions, the previous study distinguished the factors affecting selected graduates
of senior high school in their choice of college course. Subsequently, this study fills in as initial
information to what would students could experience while picking college course. Including that lack of
support financially has a negative impact on one's individuals ability to make a sound decision. Research
shown that individuals are impacted via profession that their parent favors, others flows with the career
that their instructive decision have opened for them, some decide to follow their enthusiasm paying
little mind to how much or little it will make them, while others pick the career that gives high income.
Tragically, results from the ongoing review were to a great extent not measurably huge. Factors, for
example, parental impacts may be more significant during the time spent picking a significant than are
the individual factors that were analyzed in the review. Unfortunately, decision-making coping patterns
on college students decision of major probably won't be suggested.
