Accessibility in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

1 Accessibility
 The Centre’s path of travel is obstruction free.
 The Centre was awarded the Kuala Lumpur

Mayor Universal Access Award 2013, which
acknowledges the facility’s building design as
being accessible and user-friendly for all.
2 Ramps
 All ramp access from path level to the Centre √
are disabled-friendly and more than 2.4m wide.
3 Doors
 The Centre’s main entrances are fitted with
automatic sliding glass doors with adjustable √
opening intervals.
 The clear width of all the door openings are more
than 0.90m.
 All doors are manned during important functions.
4 Elevators
 There are 20 passenger elevators to serve
guests and all the elevators are easily
accessible.
 The door openings of the elevators are more
than 0.80m wide.

 All elevators have handrails at a height of
between 0.8m to 0.9m mounted on the sides.
 The elevators are fitted with Braille numeral
buttons at a height of between 0.9m to 1.3m, as
well as aural and visual indicators.
 All VIP lifts are manned during important
functions.
5 Entrances
 All entrances are disabled-friendly and provide √
easy access to all elevators.
6 Escalators
 There are 24 escalators in the Centre to
supplement the elevators to transport guests to

function rooms.
 There is also a direct link to the Traders Hotel’s
Level 5 via the Level 3 East Wing escalator.
7 Foyers
 The foyers of the function rooms are more than √ √
6m wide and unobstructed.
8 Lobby
 The Centre has a 438sqm main lobby with two
elevators, two escalators and two staircases to
mobilise guests to function rooms. √
 Access to the main lobby is through two double-
leaf automatic sliding glass doors and two single-
leaf automatic sliding glass doors.

9 Obstructions
 The Centre is OSHAS 18001:2007 certified,

which means the Centre’s path of travel is
obstruction free.
10 Medical Room
 The Centre’s Medical Room is fitted with four
medical beds, an eye wash facility and basic first
aid equipment.
 During major events, it is highly recommended
that the Organiser appoints a Medical Officer and

Medical Assistant with an ambulance on
standby. This can be arranged through the
Centre.
 The nearest hospital, Prince Court Medical
Centre, is 1.4km from the Centre (approximately
a 3-minute drive).
11 Parking
 The Centre’s indoor parking is located at
basement levels 1 and 2.
 The limited outdoor parking is located on the
ground floor about 10m from the Centre’s main
entrance.
 There are 11 dedicated parking bays for √
disabled guests. The bays are located adjacent
to the parking level elevator landings and
shallow grade ramps provide access from road
level.
 These parking bays are on a first-come, first-
served basis and normal parking charges apply.
12 Platform Lifts
 The Centre has two wheelchair lifters (one each
in the Plenary Hall and Plenary Theatre) to √ √
transport disabled guests to the stage from
ground level and vice versa.
13 Railings/Handrails
 Handrails are installed inside the elevators and √
staircases at a height of between 0.8m to 0.95m.
14 Rest Facilities
 Ottoman seats are available in the ground floor
foyer every 18m.
 The placement distance can be shortened as √
long as the emergency exits are not obstructed.
 Additional rest areas can be created upon
request.
15 Restrooms
 The Centre has 12 fully-fitted unisex dedicated

wheelchair accessible restrooms located
adjacent to the public restrooms on every level.

16 Signage
 The Centre has extensive directional signs as
well as support staff on each level to guide √
guests to venues and to provide information on
the Centre.
17 Stairs
 The stairs are fitted with handrails and slip

resistant strips on steps with smooth surfaces.
18 Wheelchairs
 Seven wheelchairs are available for use by
guests on a first-come-first-served basis. √
 Prior arrangement is recommended for usage.
19 Guide and Assistance Dogs
 The Centre welcomes all guide and assistance

dogs.
