Rhythm is the pattern of sound, silence and
emphasis in a song.

These notes are quavers which


has to be played for half count.

Time Signature
A time signature tells you how the music is to be
counted. The time signature is written at the
beginning of the stave after the clef and key
signature.

You will learn 3 types of Time Signatures in this

Up Beat
Not every music begins on first beat . Music
sometimes begins with an incomplete bar
called “Up Beat” as shown in the song below.

Key Signature
Key signature, in musical notation, the
arrangement of sharp or flat signs on particular lines
and spaces of a musical staff to indicate that the
corresponding notes, in every octave, are to be
consistently raised (by sharps) or lowered (by flats)
from their natural pitches.

Ex-(1) There is a flat(b) symbol on third line which is B.


That means every B note should be played as Bb (B
flat).
For example, this note
should be played as Bb

Ex-(2)
There is a Sharp (#) symbol on the 5th
line. That means every F note which
comes in the song should be played as F#

Quaver will have ½ Count

Dotted Crotchet will have 1 ½ Count
