 ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

OBJECTIVE:
The assignment provides opportunities for you to understand various challenges in
developing curricula for schools so that you will have the skills to create a course module for
a programme of study in the future.

INSTRUCTIONS:
You are required to complete all TWO parts of the assignment.

PART I
TASK A: ARTICLE REVIEW (20 MARKS)
The curriculum is one of the four most important components of education. The teaching-
learning process continues based on the curriculum. Curriculum refers to all the experiences
that students gain through classrooms, workshops, playgrounds, and interactions with
teachers. In this sense, the curriculum throughout school life touches on all aspects of the
student’s life and makes a cohesive personality.

Based on the above stimulus, students need to read the following article and complete the
subsequent tasks:
Van Wyk, A. (2020). Leading curriculum changes in schools: The role of school principals as
perceived by teachers. Perspectives in Education, 38(2), 155-167.

You can access the above article in OUM digital library. The article review should include the
following aspects:
(a) What is the focus of this study?
(b) Why did the researcher do this study?
(c) What is the model used in this study? Insert the model image you can get
from the internet and cite its source. Briefly explain the model.
(d) What is the limitation of this model, and suggest another suitable curriculum
model related to this study? Justify why you choose the model.

(e) Use the construct in Table 1 (A, B, C, D only) in Van Wyk (2020) study as structured
interview questions to elicit information from TWO colleagues. Report your findings,
and did you find any similarities or differences with these research findings?

TASK B: COURSE DEVELOPMENT (30 MARKS)

This section of the assignment aims to give you practice in developing course outcomes,
content, suggested learning activities, and measurement of course outcomes for a course of
study at your institution. The course that you are developing should be aimed at enhancing
higher-order thinking skills and problem-solving skills.

You are required to provide the following information in the course module:

Kurikulum merupakan salah satu daripada empat komponen terpenting dalam pendidikan.
Proses pengajaran-pembelajaran diteruskan berdasarkan kurikulum. Kurikulum merujuk
kepada semua pengalaman yang pelajar perolehi melalui bilik darjah, bengkel, taman
permainan, dan interaksi dengan guru. Dalam pengertian ini, kurikulum sepanjang hayat
sekolah menyentuh semua aspek kehidupan pelajar dan menjadikan sahsiah yang bersatu
padu.
