M 42 - Deflector for arm cradle on arm 2

Arm 3 may drop down within range of the B-hinge on arm 1, thus damaging the D-hinge on arm 3, if
boom arms 2 and 3 are not folded in correctly (if there is less than an angle of 120 degrees between arm
1 and arm 2 as specified in the operating instruction, see page 3) or if the delivery line on arm 3 is highly
tensed.

If the boom arm assembly, comprising arms 3 and 4, passes too close to one side of arm 1 or even
comes into contact with arm 1 and the minimum distance is less than 30 mm, the deflector, PN 401221,
shown below, and a gusset, PN 401295, shown on page two, should be retrofitted.
This also becomes apparent when arm 3 is folded against arm 2 and the arm cradle for arm 3 comes to
close to one side of the vertical plate on arm 2.

The diagram left shows a section of arm 2, B-hinge area

with arm cradle. Deflector PN 401221 can be seen
mounted onto this.

The cross-sectional diagram below shows in the detail the

attachment of the deflector, PN 401221, including a
support plate and the welding specifications.
Sealed on both sides with sealing
compound PN 000303.008

Excerpt from the operating instruction

Caution

Always observe the specified sequence for extending and retracting the boom. Carefully retract the
placing boom.

The angle between arm 1 and arm 2 must be at least 120° before you extend arm 3, as otherwise the D
hinge between arm 3 and arm 4) can get stuck on arm 1 and damaged. You may have to extend the arm
assembly a little to achieve this.

Sequence for folding the boom

Retract the boom arms beginning with arm 4. The procedure is the reverse of the sequence for extending
the boom. The end hose will then automatically drop into the transport latches.

Note
The arms must be fully retracted and lay on the mounts provided. Check that the end hose is secured for
transport.
