Question 1
Identify the relevant SMM clauses and describe what are deemed to be included in the
measurement and description of steel reinforcement bars in reinforced concrete works.
(10 marks)
Question 2
With reference to Figures Q2.1 and Q2.2 apply measurement techniques to:
(a) Prepare a take off list, UOM and associated SMM clauses for the excavation, RC
and timber piling work.
(15 marks)
• Pit excavation for pile caps shall commence from the average existing ground level to a
depth of 2.50m.
• Formwork shall be of sawn timber.
• Reinforced concrete shall be of grade 30
• There is a 75mm thick layer of grade 15 lean concrete below the pilecaps
• Concrete cover shall be 50mm thick
• Steel base plates and bolts are not to be measured
• Piling works shall commence from the existing ground level
• The supply length of timber piles shall be 4.50m long
• Pile shoe shall be of 5mm thick mild steel plate to suit pile size
• Joints shall be of mild steel box sleeve, 450mm long x 3mm thick to suit pile size
• The estimated driven depth of the pile shall be 12.00m deep
• Load test shall be executed on 1 pile up to 1.5 times the working load of 40 tonnes
• Piling works shall be measured as provisional quantities
