Quarter 3 – Module 16: Laying out Pattern Pieces for Ladies Trouser

LESSON
A well-sewn garment starts at the cutting table. Laying out your pattern on
the fabric to prepare for cutting is an important step that must be done carefully
and accurately for great-looking results.
The fabric for the trouser should be preshrunk and pressed to ensure that
there will be no more shrinkage after it has been cut and sewn. The grainline should
be straightened.

4. Use sharp pins to pin the pattern pieces to the fabric. Pinning one end on
the grainline allows you to adjust the other end of the grainline as needed.
The grainline is a straight line on your pattern piece that is parallel to your
center front or center back.
1. Measuring the distance between your grainline and selvage can be done with a
tape measure.

2. Measure unpinned end of grainline and adjust as needed.
3. Once the piece is straight or at the same distance from the selvage on both ends,
you can pin the rest of the piece in place.
