whole or in part, without the written consent of TESA SA.
1.1. General
The full range of the measuring machines from TESA SA is based on a time-tested
technology used in a wide variety of standard and sophisticated measuring systems. The
Optiv Classic 321 GL or Optiv Classic 321 GL tp measuring machine described in this
manual is controlled by the PC-DMIS Vision measurement software, running under Windows
XP Professional.
Note To make sure the machine will operate securely and to achieve accurate
measurement results, carefully read the copy of this manual, but also the copy
of the PC-DMIS Vision software that came with the machine before
any operation.
All safety rules and precautions stated herein must be observed to ensure effective use of
the measuring machine.
All those who are familiar with the safety rules and precautions, but also the safety
installations and operation of the machine.
All those who have read the section dealing with the safety instructions and warnings
contained in this manual.

1.2.3. Operator’s liabilities
All those entrusted with the task to operate the machine shall commit themselves to strictly
adhere to the following beforehand:
Any other use will be regarded as improper use and TESA SA shall not be responsible for
any incurred damages.
In no event shall we be liable for personal injuries and/or material damages due to either of
the following causes:

1.2.13. Risk of electric shock
Only electricians or authorised persons supervised by an electrician may work on the
electrical apparatus and only in accordance with the electro technical regulations.
The electrical equipment of the machine needs to be checked regularly. Loosened or
damaged cables must be removed.
In case working on live components is required, appoint a second person to turn off the
power supply ON/OFF main switch in case of emergency.
1.2.17. Precautions
Reading this manual carefully will help you to install and initialize your measuring machine
appropriately. The chapter 0 figure 2.2 Working distance (W) and max. workpiece height
(H)
Installation and cable connections provides useful information on the way your machine can
be transported, unpacked and positioned correctly.
Should it be installed by a TESA authorised agent or dealer, this chapter is for your
information only.
To ensure the operational safety and reliability of your measuring machine, please
take into account the following precautions.

Installation and use of your Optiv Classic 321 GL or Optiv Classic 321 GL tp requires a
comprehensive training ensured by a TESA authorised service provider.
Install your Optiv Classic 321 GL or Optiv Classic 321 GL tp on a rigid, stable and flat
surface area. Do not expose the machine to hazardous conditions, shocks, vibrations,
moisture, excessive humidity, corrosive or inflammable surroundings, sudden temperature
variations or direct sunlight.
Make sure your Optiv Classic 321 GL or Optiv Classic 321 GL tp is locked out (i.e.
switched to zero potential) before installation. This precaution shall also be taken before
undertaking any maintenance, inspection or repair work.
Do not use your Optiv Classic 321 GL or Optiv Classic 321 GL tp with other voltage rates
than those specified in this manual.
Do not damage, modify, stretch out or bend the power cord. Do not expose the cord to
high temperature or place heavy items on it. If you fail to take any of these precautions,
you might damage your measuring machine or cause serious injury by fire or shock
hazard.
Disconnect the machine by pulling the plug - not the cord - as this might cause electrical
damage to the machine or expose yourself to an electrical discharge.
Handle your Optiv Classic 321 GL or Optiv Classic 321 GL tp with special care in order to
ensure the reliability of the measurement results delivered by this high-precision
measuring machine.
Store original CD/DVD in a safe place, as they might be very useful whenever the
machine needs to be reinstalled.
Should your machine be used in conjunction with any other equipment, the performance
stated in this manual may not be attained, or some operating functions may not be
accessible, depending on the ambient conditions on the spot.
Do not leave your Optiv Classic 321 GL or Optiv Classic 321 GL tp switched on after use.
For safety reasons, unplug the power cord from the mains outlet if you think that you won’t
be using the machine for a long period of time.
Do not put your hand or your fingers between the measuring table and the column as this
can lead to injury.
Take extra care to possible shocks during operation of the machine.
Keep hands or fingers away from the traversing measuring table. Failure to adhere to this
precaution may expose yourself to injury as the Z axis moves down.
The space between the measuring machine and any adjacent object must be large
enough (> 50 cm) in order not to hinder the moving machine axes.
Ensure that the lifting equipment is adequate for the weight of the machine.
Check the belt of the Z axis visually for wear or crack every year. If replacement is
required, ask for a specialist. In any case, let this be done every 10 years.
Install the measuring machine on a solid surface, which must be strong enough to support
the weight of the machine along with all accessories.

2. Technical Data
2.1. Hardware
The Optiv Classic 321 GL offers an innovative design for non-contact measurement,
whereas the Optiv Classic 321 GL tp combines optical and tactile measurement in one
system. The part to be measured is placed onto the measuring table moving in two
coordinate directions (X = left / right, Y = forward / backward).
A video camera equipped with the chosen lens is mounted on the Z axis and positioned
above the part.
The measuring machine uses a separate computer (PC) whose technical features may vary,
depending on both the purchase date and machine type. For the main ones, however, they
remain as stated hereafter:

3. Installation and cable connections
3.1. On-site installation
Your Optiv Classic 321 GL or Optiv Classic 321 GL tp is an extremely sensitive and highly
accurate measuring machine. Therefore, the machine must be installed on a stable, rigid and
flat (also vibration-free) surface.
Shipping boxes
The measuring machine has been carefully packed for shipment. We recommend to keep
any shipping box for use whenever the machine should be transported at a later date.
Length 170 cm
Width 115 cm
Height 136 cm
Weight (measuring machine + shipping box) 270 kg
Weight (measuring machine) 170 kg
Shipment
The nature of the product being shipped should be taken into account. As stated earlier in
this manual, your Optiv Classic 321 GL or Optiv Classic 321 GL tp is a sensitive machine.
Shocks and vibrations must therefore be avoided during air, road or any other transport.
The carrier should be clearly informed about the precautions to be taken. Transportation and
unloading must be carried out by experienced personnel using appropriate tools.
The shipping box must be carried as close as possible to the installation site of the
measuring machine. This requires at least two people.
Unpacking
Place the pallet as close as possible to the installation surface (worktable, granite plate,
etc.) intended for the measuring machine.
Cut both straps/belts around the shipping box.
Remove the top cover of the shipping box.
Remove the sides of the shipping box.
Take the computer out of its box.
Take the monitor out of its box.
Remove the watertight protection “Climafoil”.
Loosen the four (4) fastening screws (under the pallet).
Installation
Prepare a stable, rigid and flat surface (worktable, granite plate, etc.) capable to support
the machine’s weight and reasonably high and wide to allow for ease of use. Leave
enough space (at least 50 cm) on all sides of the measuring machine. This will facilitate
the alignment of the machine’s base and the access to all connections of the measuring
machine.
Level the worktable. Afterwards, place the measuring machine with at least 4 people and
with the help of appropriate lifting equipment onto the worktable. Follow the relevant
safety regulations in your country. Remember that the machine’s weight is as high as
170 kg. Once the machine rests safely on its support, unscrew the four (4) transport
handles.
