What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? Students will successfully be able to use
Spotify for Podcasting to create their own podcast to showcase their knowledge of the parts of a plant
and share their podcasts with the class.
Description of Software: Spotify for Podcasters is a recording tool that can be used on mobile
devices, computers, and other smart devices.
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s): (Which level(s) will this lesson meet using this technology tool?)
Please put an X in the box or next to the level(s). Do not highlight or bold the response.
How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.
☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it
via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
Students will use the tool Spotify for Podcasting to create a podcast to show what they know about the
parts of a plant. To introduce the topic, I will create my own podcast that introduces the parts of a

plant to the students. They will get to listen to the podcast and then do their own research afterwards
with guided questions that I will provide. Students will then use the information that they gathered to
create their own podcasts and then share them with the class on a collaboration board. Students will
know their learning goals by having a checklist of all the information they need to include in their
podcast. Students will utilize the technology by having a set amount of time to work on the podcast
each day during the science period. I will walk around the classroom and have workshops at my desk
for students to ask questions and get help if needed. Feedback will be provided to students from their
peers on the collaboration board. There students will listen to their peers’ podcasts and give them
glows (what they liked) and grows (what they think could be added). To conclude the lesson, we will
listen to a more in-depth podcast describing the parts of a plant to compare theirs to.
Managing student learning: The tool used in this lesson provides students an active way of learning.
This is the case because students get to create their own podcast and use their own creativity to show
what they know. To ensure students are working on the task in the intended time period there will be a
checklist for students to check off as they complete their work, there will be a set amount of worktime
during the science period of the day, students have the ability to work with peers, and students will
have to submit a script for their podcast before recording.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:This activity and technology tool is accessible to
all students and learners in that students can listen and use scripts. This activity and tool also support
the UDL principle because it enhances learning by keeping students engaged, aiding in accessibility to
all learners, and by differentiating learning. This lesson supports the expression principle of the UDL
framework in that students get to choose how they want to express their knowledge through a podcast.
They can talk, sing a song, write a poem, provide a script in multiple languages etc. Students have a
variety of ways to express their knowledge which increases their desire to learn and engage with the
material.
Reflection: I think this lesson will promote student agency and student confidence in their learning
experience. Since they have a sense of control in their learning, while also using a different outlet to
show what they know they will be more involved with the material. I look forward to students
collaborating with each other and creating a podcast for themselves because they get the chance to
have their own voice be heard instead of hearing other people speak for them or to them.
