NOTE
1. Between 21000 feet and 15000 feet, a
minimum of 12% N2 is necessary for a
windmill relight.
2. At 15000 feet and below, a minimum of 9%
N2 is necessary for a windmill relight.
3. Disconnecting an IDG can gain
approximately 2.5% N2 on the associated
engine. It will take 40 to 60 seconds after
disconnecting an IDG to realize the 2.5%
N2 increase on the associated engine.
CAUTION
If the IDGs are disconnected, normal electrical
power cannot be re-established even after a
successful engine start.
NOTE
1. Acceleration to VMO is recommended to
attain the necessary N2 for a windmill
relight.
2. The altitude loss when accelerating from
240 KIAS to VMO could be more than
5000 feet.
3. A push-over to as steep as 15 degrees
nose down may be required.

emergencies. The flight crew should
consider an immediate landing anytime
the situation cannot be controlled.

B. Preparation
NOTE
1. If one main landing gear is up or unsafe,
hold applicable wing up for as long as
possible. Maintain directional control with
rudder and nosewheel steering (if
considered safe). When wing touches the
ground, apply asymmetrical braking for
directional control.
2. If nose landing gear is up or unsafe, trim
stabilizer nose-up after touchdown. Gently
lower the nose before elevator
effectiveness is lost.
3. If all wheels are up or unsafe, perform a
nose high attitude touchdown but do not
reduce touchdown speed below stick
shaker speed.
4. If both main landing gear cannot be
locked down, consideration should be
given to landing with all wheels up.

A flow pattern concept is used throughout the Quick Reference
Handbook (QRH) as applicable, utilizing the “decision” (rhomb)
symbol ( ).
This decision symbol indicates a flow pattern which points to two or
more possible courses of action. The procedure is completed once
the ( ) symbol is reached.
When several alternative actions point to a common procedure or to
return / proceed to a specific step, a “return” symbol ( ) is
used.
An “arrowhead” symbol ( ) is used to indicated that the
procedure is not completed and continues on to the next page.
The “end” symbol ( ) indicates

1. Windmill airstart efficiency is enhanced by
attaining the highest practical airspeed and
N2 within the relight envelope.
2. Between 21000 feet and 15000 feet, a
minimum of 12% N2 is necessary for a
windmill relight.
3. At 15000 feet and below, a minimum of 9%
N2 is necessary for a windmill relight.
4. If the minimum N2 cannot be achieved, an
approximate 1.5% to 2.5% increase in N2
may be obtained by disconnecting the
corresponding IDG using the IDG DISC.
Once a disconnect has been performed
that IDG cannot be re-connected in flight.

NOTE
1. In colder conditions several
attempts/minutes may be required to shed
ice.
2. If more than one attempt is required to
reduce fan vibration to within normal
operating range, icing conditions should be
considered severe.
3. Ice shedding process may be accompanied
by the following:
an airframe vibration and change in
engine noise;
sharp metallic noise as ice impacts
inside of the nacelle;
vibrations may increase;
vibrations may momentarily indicate full
scale.
NOTE
Icing conditions exist in flight at a TAT of 10°C
(50°F) or below and visible moisture in any form
is encountered (such as clouds, rain, snow, sleet
or ice crystals), except when the SAT is −40°C
(−40°F) or below.

pressure at the bleed air
manifold.

with the landing gear retracted, the landing
gear warning horn may sound
continuously. To silence ALL audio
warnings, set the AUDIO WARNING
