Power Curve v82
Power Curve v82
Power Curve v82
Involved Turbines:
Background:
We regularly review the performance of turbines through VOB data to check if the turbine is generating
power as per designed power curve. In some of the turbines, we find that the turbines are not meeting the
power curve efficiency.
This check list is designed to address such issues, when observed. This check list can also be used when
a concern is raised by the customer about generation issues / VOB power curve (apparent power curve).
A) Inspection and correction which can be done without stopping the turbine / without physically
attending the turbine.
B) Inspection and correction by physical inspection
If there are additional concerns about the operation of a turbine after the inspection, contact a member of
Technical Support with the inspection results for further assistance. Attach appropriate photos to support
all inspections mentioned in this checklist.
Safety:
Always follow the proper safety & LOTO procedures according Turbine operating instruction and corporate
OHS Manual.

This inspection procedure has two Steps: the first step involves only the remote checking & correction
of parameters through Vestas Online SCADA; and in case, all the parameters discussed in step B
found to be correct and without any deviation, then proceed to Step B which involves physical
inspection of the Turbine.
NOTE 2: There could be a possibility for more than one below mentioned deviation in the same
turbine for low performance issue.
During certain repairs on the turbines the original configuration of the turbine can be altered causing
poor operating performance and affecting the power curve. In some cases turbines have been found to
be configured incorrectly from commissioning and this inspection can help correct configuration errors
keeping the turbine operating at peak efficiency. The following checks will help identify such issues.

Counter Results:
Offset calculation: Compare the difference between min &max count of all 3 blades using the below
calculation, if result deviates +/- 0.3, then need physical verification as per step 2.
(Max-Min)/95 = 29.5 for Parker hydraulics & 30.5 for Rexroth hydraulics.
Note: If turbine has FT sensor V22, then SW version 5.4 only accepted.

6. Check and record if any alarms are disabled or settings are changed
7. Check and record for any unapproved and incorrect parameters using TAC and
TAC84 and TAC85
Elevation setting:
Check the altitude with altitude meter & add Tower height and correct the setting if necessary.
9. Compare the ambient temperature readings of this turbine to nearby turbines in SCADA.
10. Record the Nacelle position sensor setting for the turbine. Compare the nacelle
direction with nearby turbine…
Note: If you do not find any deviation in Step A, please proceed to Step B.

1. Check for correct mechanical blade angle and proper rod end distance.
NOTE: If turbine having LM40 blades, then Disable LM blade offset, i.e. from ‘1’ to ‘0’ before carry out
below steps….
- Confirm rod ends are mounted to actuator correctly according to blade installation instructions.
- Check actuators in hub to be sure they are at their full end stop (that they are at the end of the stroke of the
rod). If not, pitch again or recalibrate the actuators again.
- (Blades should be calibrated prior to this step.)
Check blades mechanical pitch angle is set correctly according to gauge on side of blade. Blade angle is
measured by pitching to end stop and using gauge on side of blade
- When TAC is at pitch to end stop the blade scale is to align at 0.0° (no deviation)
- Record the blade angle for each blade. (AL40 and LM40 pitch scale view)
If adjustments are necessary to make the punch and pitch gauge align at 0.0°, loosen Allen head bolts in rod
head and turn actuator rod with 80mm wrench until correct pitch angle matches controller. 1° of blade angle
will equal approximately 2 turns of the actuator rod.

Note:
Do not exceed maximum allowable distance at the fully retracted position (0°). Also ensure LM offset to be
disabled (from ‘1’ to ‘0’) while carry out this below check
- Maximum allowable distance between rod ends and actuator not to exceeding 47mm.
Blade 1
Blade 2
With TAC pitch angle @ -0.5°, punch to scale on blade reading.
Blade 3
With TAC pitch angle @ -0.5°, punch to scale on blade reading.
NOTE: After pitch angle verification, enable LM blade offset (From ‘0’ to ‘1’) if turbine equipped with
LM40
Blades
2. Re-calibrate actuators
Slow pitch systems or bad accumulators can affect the recalibration and may require a person to sit in the
nose cone to be sure the actuators are at their full end stops through the tests.
NOTE: If turbine having LM40 blades, then Disable LM blade offset, i.e. from ‘1’ to ‘0’ before carry out
below steps….

When turbine is pitch controlled to stop and brakes are not applied, does it always stop with certain blades up
or down? This can be an indication of a rotor imbalance.
Any indication of a rotor imbalance on this turbine: (mention the blade position with details)
