Mohamed laid lazzizi Middle School

The Second Term Exam Of English

Duration:1.30h.
Name :..………………………………….
Class:3MS……………………………….
Hollywood
In 1887,Hollywood was a big farm near a town called Los Angeles. It belonged to
a man called Horace Wilcox who used to grow oranges ,lemons and melons there. It
was a charming place. The mountains, the desert and the sea were all close and the
sun shone nearly every day.
Slowly, Hollywood became a small town. Ninety years ago, about 4000 people
lived there. It was a pretty, quiet little place, then suddenly everything changed.
First film studios in America opened in New York. But New York wasn’t a good
place to make films. Hollywood had better weather, better scenery and cheaper
land than New York. So between 1911 and 1931, the biggest studios moved to
Hollywood and 150,000 people came with them.
Hollywood today is full of cameras, theatres and studios. The most famous actors
and producers in the world have houses there. Millions of tourists come to visit. It is
difficult to believe that only 110 years ago, Hollywood was just a farm.
