1. General
2. Description
The m i c r o f i l t e r s a r e l o c a t e d on t h e engine compartment f l o o r between t h e
f u e l shut-off valve and t h e engine-mounted f u e l f i l t e r , d i r e c t l y below
t h e engine cornbustion chambers.
The m i c r o f i l t e r u n i t c o n s i s t s of a 10-micron element, a bypass valve
incorporating an e l e c t r i c a l clogging i n d i c a t o r , and a d r a i n valve. A d r i p
t r a y , l o c a t e d on t h e engine compartment f l o o r under t h e d r a i n valve,
catches drained f l u i d from t h e f i l t e r and d i r e c t s it overboard v i a t h e
drainage system.
3. Operation
The warning segments FILT I and FILT I1 i n d i c a t e clogging of t h e
engine-mounted f u e l f i l t e r s and t h e m i c r o f i l t e r s . I f clogging i s
indicated, t h e m i c r o f i l t e r must be i n s p e c t e d f i r s t because it i s located
upstream of t h e engine-mounted f u e l f i l t e r . When clogging causes a
pressure d i f f e r e n c e a c r o s s t h e m i c r o f i l t e r of 0.27 b a r (0.28 kp/cm2), a
bypass valve i n t h e f i l t e r u n i t w i l l Open. The d i f f e r e n t i a l pressure
i n d i c a t o r i n s t a l l e d upstream of t h e bypass valve w i l l a c t u a t e sooner t o
i n d i c a t e clogging a t d i f f e r e n t i a l p r e s s u r e s of between 0.082 and 0.092
b a r (0.084 t o 0.094 kp/cm2) . P r i o r t o each f l i g h t , t h e d r a i n valve must
be checked f o r proper operation and t h e warning segments t e s t e d by
pressing t h e warning button on t h e m i c r o f i l t e r . Then t h e f u e l pumps i n
t h e main f u e l tanks must be switched On. The f u e l pressure reading i n t h e
cockpit must be 0 . 4 9 b a r (0.5 kp/cm2). A f t e r t h e pumps i n t h e forward
main tanks a r e switched On, switch on t h o s e i n t h e supply tank. The
pressure reading must then i n c r e a s e t o approx. 0.98 b a r ( 1 . 0 kp/cm2 ) .

General
- Refer to wiring diagram 828-1 in the Wiring Diagram Manual (WDM).
- Inspect electrical connections for tightness.
- Connect external power source (EPU). Set battery switch 16P on instrument
panel to BATT OFF / EPU ON.

CAUTION WHEN INSTALLING THE MICROFILTER, TAKE CARE THAT THE FLOW
DIRECTION ARROW POINTS INBOARD.
2. P o s i t i o n m i c r o f i l t e r i n t h e mounting s u p p o r t ( 1 0 ) with s p a c e r s l e e v e s ( 7 )
and s e c u r e w i t h screws ( 8 ) and washers ( 9 ) . Wire-lock t h e screw.
3. Connect l i n e s t o f l a n g e s (22) by t i g h t e n i n g union n u t s ( 2 0 ) .
