RATIONALE

School dropout is a universal problem face in the field of education due to the different

negative results towards students and other stakeholders (Alliance for Excellent Education, 2007;

Irwin et al., 2021; Levin & Belfield, 2007; Mennen et al., 2022). A family that composes

members of individual plays a vital role in students who do not have the opportunity to

demonstrate their knowledge and abilities and use their experiences to benefit themselves or their

community, students who drop out of school are a waste of money for their families,

communities, and nations. (Mennen et al., 2022; U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2021; Willits et

al., 2013). Additionally, this causes their confidence to erode, which makes it challenging for

them to adjust or manage well during unpredictable times. Family, community, and society all

suffer as a result of the instability that school dropout’s encounter. School dropout is a core

problem encountered globally which hindered students with enough knowledge and capabilities

to cope up with this progressing society competing with various opportunities and challenges.

This undermines their confidence, making it challenging for them to adjust or manage well

during unpredictable times. The increased number of drop outs in junior high school students of

Tabango National High School has been the core problem of the school for years specifically

school year 2022-2023 due to its rapid increased of dropout with the unheard and unidentified

reasons. There are various categories into which the causes of student abandonment can be

divided. According to Wells, Bechard, and Hambly (1989), there are four main categories of

criteria that go into a student's profile of traits that may cause them to drop out of school. Finding

out why so many students are leaving school is crucial because a good education is crucial to

obtaining a certain level in life, nearly everyone with less education will have less success in the

future. Given the rising cost of living, all students will benefit from receiving an education in

order to find employment that will allow them to support themselves and their future families.
It's critical to learn why so many children drop out of school before completing their education.

This study looked into high school dropouts to see what characteristics they had in common the

most. In order to accurately explore this issue it is necessary to understand the reasons why

students drop before graduating from their chosen school. This study intends to find out the

reasons why students drop out of school and determine which among the factors stated in the

study of Orion, Jr., et.,al 2014 ( policies and practices, student-teacher relationship, nature of

school curriculum, financial resources and academic performance) relatively contribute to the

high dropout rate. The results of the study will provide programme design to identify mode of

interventions which the school undertakes to address the problem.
