General remarks
2Upgrade from VB10/VB20 to VB21 (first time installation)

This procedure describes the steps necessary to install the Radis VB21 SW on the AXIOM
Aristos Image System for the 1st time, e.g. only if VB10 or VB20 was on the system
before.

NOTE Please observe:

PCs shipped from spare part stocks normally carry the latest
version of the RADIS software. Also an installation after, e.g.
a system crash, requires different steps. In these cases, skip
this chapter and go to the appropriate paragraph according
the table of contents.

NOTICE This chapter describes the software installation for VB21

using clone DVDs for M430/M440/M460 PCs and clone CDs
for Celsius 400/460/M410 PCs.
¹ Follow chapter headlines, notes and hints closely!

NOTE User of System Management:

With the upgrade to VB21, there is also a change from a
CA-based agent to an HP-based agent. To avoid trouble-
shooting with this change, please check/confirm with the

If needed: Deactivating the Serial Mouse at COM 1 (only for Aristos

MX / VX /TX) 2.14

In some cases, the mouse cursor sticks in the top right corner when the RADIS PC is con-
nected to the XCU; this is because the RADIS PC thinks that an RS232 mouse is con-
nected to its RS232 interface and interprets the signals from the XCU as a "mouse
command". To prevent this, the RS232 mouse must be disabled on the RADS PC.
• Select Start > Run > "devmgmt.msc" using the "Windows® key", the arrow keys and
the Enter key.

cursor will begin to move by itself.

Checking and Activating System Management (only if remote is

configured) 2.18

NOTICE Failing to correctly activate System Management causes loss

of connection to Siemens Remote Services.
This will result in strongly compromised capabilities of
remote access to the systems; no remote updates will be
possible.
¹ The following steps describe the necessary changes in
VB21 if System Management was already in use with
VB10 or VB20 to VB21. For other cases (first time acti-
vation or troubleshooting), it is necessary to follow the
latest revision of the “Configuration Aristos SRS
beginning with VB21” (AXB4-000.843.03....) available
on the Intranet Aristos CB-DOC > Service.

Activating System Management 0

• Start the service software.

• Click on Configuration on the Service home page.
• Please make sure that the correct System type is selected. It could be lost in the
backup > restore process (known error). If necessary, make a change to correct the
system type.
• Select H System Management in the List of System Options.

TCP/IP Address 194.138.39.21 129.73.116.93 194.138.243.181

• To test the Connectivity, click on the Test button. Since this is a very time-critical action,
it is possible that a connection will not be immediately established. Because of this, sev-
eral attempts should be made.
¹ The server must send back a message, e.g.:

Fig. 34: Host is alive

NOTE If outside NAT is configured, the test function will not work
and the message “...not alive” will be displayed.
The new server name and IP address will then have to be reg-
istered with the local administrator and the SRS Help Desk.
Despite this, continue to the next step of the installation.

General Remarks
3SW Reinstallation of VB21 only (e.g. after a crash)

This procedure describes the steps necessary to reinstall the Radis VB21 SW on the
AXIOM Aristos Image System when a VB21 was installed before, e.g. after a system
crash.

NOTE Please observe:

PCs shipped from spare part stocks normally carry the latest
version of the RADIS software. Also installation of VB21 for
the 1st time requires different steps. In these cases, skip this
chapter and go to the proper paragraph according the table
of contents.

NOTICE This chapter describes how to ensure that the system is

restored with all updates and patches after a system crash.
¹ Follow chapter headlines, notes and hints closely!

• Here is a guideline of what will be covered (among other things) in this chapter:

68 SW Reinstallation of VB21 only (e.g. after a crash)

Creation of a repair plan (usually by USC) 3.1

Creating a repair plan is the best way to ensure that all necessary steps are performed in
an efficient way and that multiple visits after setup of the PC are avoided.

What to do before Reinstallation 0

• Identify the SW version before the crash (possibly consider open patches or new ver-
sions - > to save time) .

SW Reinstallation of VB21 only (e.g. after a crash) 69

Preparations 3.2

NOTE Please consider the steps created in the repair plan. Prior to
a new installation, all patients must be archived from the
local database, because the database is over-written during
the new installation.

NOTE Before recovering the installation, a backup is imperative.

Log files 0

NOTE If a problem is encountered that requires a software reload,

the system log files must be exported for evaluation prior to
reloading software.
If that problem also has a filed customer complaint associ-
ated with it, then mail the log files along with the complaint
for further evaluation.

NOTE If a VB20x or VB21x (not VB10x) system has been able to

automatically create an error log before a software crash, it
can be found under C:\Radis\Log.

NOTE The following instructions for manually creating a log file

work only for VB20x and VB21x.

1. To manually create an error log file:

- under Help, select Report Error.

NOTICE Failing to correctly activate System Management causes loss

of connection to Siemens Remote Services.
This will result in strongly compromised capabilities of
remote access to the systems; no remote updates will be
possible.
¹ The following steps describe the necessary changes in
VB21 when System Management was already in use.
For other cases (first time activating or troubleshoot-
ing), it is necessary to follow the latest revision of the

PC Replacement: SW Installation and Settings 93
4-
General Remarks
4PC Replacement: SW Installation and Settings

These instructions describe the procedure for installing the necessary SW on a

pre-installed Radis PC from spare part stocks.

NOTE Please observe:

PCs shipped from spare part stocks normally carry the latest
version of the RADIS software. If there is an image of the
same PC hardware, please use this image for installation. In
these cases, skip this chapter and go to the chapter “SW
Reinstallation of VB21”. For additional work steps related to
a PC HW replacement, use the latest “Replacement of Parts”
instructions.

NOTE Please observe:

If there is still an older VB10 Radis version installed, this PC
replacement should be used to go to the latest version of
Radis (already installed on the new PC). For this, please also
order the VB21 or higher SW kit (Order No. 14402128) via the
sales channel. This kit includes the current documentation.

NOTE Please observe:

Following the steps in this chapter is normally necessary
only in the case of a PC HW update (different PC than the
defective one). For additional work steps related to PC HW
replacement, use the latest “Replacement of Parts” instruc-
tions.

NOTICE This chapter describes how it can be ensured that after a PC

replacement, the system is restored with all updates and
patches.
¹ Follow chapter headlines, notes and hints closely!

• The following is a guideline of what will be covered (among other things) in this chapter:
Tab. 8 Work Steps

PC Replacement: SW Installation and Settings 95

Creation of a repair plan (usually by USC) 4.1

Creation of a repair plan is the best way to ensure that all necessary steps are performed
efficiently and that multiple visits after setup of the PC are avoided.

What to do prior to Reinstallation 0

• Identify the SW version before the crash (possibly consider open patches or new ver-
sions - > to save time).
If going from VB10 to the new PC (latest version of VB21), additional collimator SW has
to be downloaded from Intranet.

Checking and Activating System Management (only if remote is

configured) 4.11

NOTICE Failing to correctly activate System Management causes loss

of connection to Siemens Remote Services.
This will result in strongly compromised capabilities of
remote access to the systems; no remote updates will be
possible.
¹ The following steps describe the necessary changes in
VB21 when System Management was already in use.
For other cases (first time activating or troubleshoot-
ing), it is necessary to follow the latest revision of the
“Configuration Aristos SRS beginning with VB21”
(AXB4-000.843.03.01 or higher), available on the Intra-
net, Aristos CB-DOC > Service.

Activating System Management 0

• To test the Connectivity, click on the Test button. Since this is a very time-critical action,
it is possible that a connection will not be immediately established. Because of this, sev-
eral attempts should be made.
¹ The server must send back a message, e.g.:

Fig. 106: Host is alive

NOTE If outside NAT is configured, the test function will not work
and the message “...not alive” will be displayed.
The new server name and IP address also have to be regis-
tered with the local administrator and SRS Help Desk.
Despite this, continue to the next step of the installation.
