OVERVIEW
P.E 8 (QUARTER 2)
MAPEH is an active subject and the learners learn best by their own performances.
In the preparation of this module, different activities have been constructed to hone the full
potentials of the students in each component. This module focuses to nurture the needs
of the learners in Physical Education with more relevant ideas and skills that assist
standard learning as guided by Most Essential Learning Competencies.
At the end of this module, learners are expected to achieve the content standard
which learner demonstrates understanding of guidelines and principles in exercise
program design to achieve fitness. While the performance standards, learner modifies
physical activity program for the family/school peers to achieve fitness.

Now that we know all of the things that we need to do in order to progress in fitness, We
need to assess again the other components of physical fitness. This can either be health-
related or skill-related which we can use in participation to other team sports, or it may be
used on our daily activities.

LESSON PROPER
BASEBALL
What is the nature and background of baseball?
The History of Baseball
The game of baseball started in the early 19th
century. An Englishman named Alexander Cartwright
created the game in the year 1845 with the first set of rules.
In fact, many of the rules recorded then are still used in the
game.

Babe Ruth
Baseball is a strategic game of batting throughout the last part of the 20th century.
However, pitching and homerun hitting are the baseball standards of today. Depending on
the strength of their players and their home run batters, baseball teams are either big
losers or big winners.
What is the nature of the Game?
A baseball game is played by two teams who alternately played offensively and
defensively. There are nine players on each side. The goal is to score more runs than the
opponent, which is accomplished by one regular trip of four bases on the diamond.

Bats
In professional baseball, the only allowed bats
are wooden bats. The diameter should inches
and with the length of not be 2 2/4 more than
42 inches. White ass bat is used because it
absorbs shocks better than other kinds of
woods
Baseball
A baseball is made up of cork at the center
and wrapped with 120 yards of cotton and
219 wool yarn with the cover made up of two
cowhides that are stitched together. The ball
weighs about 5 to 5.25 ounces with 9 to 9.25
inch circumference.

Catching
It is the ability to get the ball thrown to you.
The ability of the catcher to catch quickly
helps the catcher to prevent the opposing
player to advance to the next base.
MAPEH 8 25
CHILDREN OF FATIMA SCHOOL, INC.
Junior High School Department
Hitting
Hitting is the most entertaining part of the
game. It is hard to hit a ball with a round bat
if you are positioned into a limited space
and you have a split second to react to a
pitched ball. A good baseball batter needs
exceptional reaction time, coordination,
good hitting technique, and self-confidence.
Base Running
Sharp aggressive base running can put a lot
of pressure on the defensive team. Good
base running is about being fast and smart.
It is just as important to know and
understand the current game situation at all
times (including the number of outs and the
defensive team's fielding placements) as it is
to move around the bases quickly.
