I.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

a. Identify different types of cells

b. Label the structures found within animal and plant cells
c. Describe the functions of the components of cells
d. Distinguish the similarities and difference between animal and plant cells

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic Materials References
Cell Pictures of cell and a. Internet
organelles, visual aids, b. Book (General Biology 1
flash cards, tapes, scissors by Maria Angelica D. Rea
and Nikki Heherson A.
Dagamac)

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activity
 Opening Prayer
 Greeting
 Checking of Attendance
 Review of previous topic

B. Motivation
 Introduce the “4 Pics 1 Word” Game
 Play the “4 Pics 1 word” Game
 Let the students guess the picture and
it’s corresponding word
(CELL)

C. Activity
 Divide the class into 6 groups
 Each group will do different activities
and follow the instructions of the
given activity
 Give time limit for the activity (at least
10 minutes)
 Check the work of the group.

 Show pictures to the learners of 8. Rough ER = Road
different infrastructures and services 9. Smooth ER = Rehabilitation Center
that can be seen in a city. 10. Chloroplast = Solar Energy Plant
 Ask the learners the following;
 Which picture represent or
similar to a cell organelle? (Students will give their own opinion)

 How can you say that the cell

organelle and the
infrastructure are similar?

IV. ASSESSMENT 1. Cell Membrane

- encloses the cell
 Quiz - gives shape to the cell
 Label the anatomical - maintains homeostasis
structures of the cells. 2. Cell Wall
 - protects the plant cell
 - maintains it’s shape
 - surrounds the cell membrane
 3. Cytoplasm
 - responsible for the fluidity of th cell
- expels waste
4. Nucleus
- control center of the cell
5. Nucleolus
- is where the subunits of the
ribosomes are assembled
 Give at least five cell organelles 6. Ribosomes
and their corresponding - play a key role in protein synthesis
functions. 7. Smooth ER
1. - metabolism of carbohydrates
2. - lipid synthesis
3. - detoxification of drugs, chemicals and
4. poisons
5. 8. Rough ER
- responsible for making proteins for
export
- forms transport vesicles
9. Golgi Body
- processes packages and secretes
molecules processed by the ER
10. Lysosomes
- helps breakdown large molecules
- known as the “suicide sac”
11. Mitochondrion
- known as the “powerhouse of the
cell”
- involves in cellular respiration
12. Vacuole
- storage of nutrients and pigments
- disposal site for useless substances
13. Chloroplast
- contains green pigment called
chlorophyll
- serves as the site for photosynthesis
V. ASSIGNMENT
 Let the learners make a structure of a
cell and it’s organelles, either a plant
or an animal cell by using materials
that are available at their home.

 Closing prayer and bid goodbye.
