clean.” He stretched out his hand, touched
him, and said, “I will do it. Be made clean.”

Deepening
Superheroes are very popular. They are admired by many people and we are amazed at their power. No matter how big the problem may
be, superheroes are able to overcome them, thanks to their superpowers. Superheroes have superpowers because some of them are
portrayed as gods, others have superpowers because of freak accidents or because of genetic manipulations. Still, others get their
superpowers from highly sophisticated technology that they have developed.
Grace is God’s presence in us and in our lives. The greatest grace that God
gives us is Jesus. Jesus is God’s presence in our midst, that is why we call him
Emmanuel which means “God with us.’ In the story from the Gospel of Mark,
we see how Jesus shows that He is God’s grace to the people around Him—he
shows them mercy and heals them of their sickness. In the other stories in the
gospels, we see Him teaching them about God’s Kingdom and His love, feeding them, caring for them, forgiving them and most
importantly, dying for them to
save them from sin.
Through the sacraments, the Holy Spirit gives us the grace of cleansing (Baptism), of strength (Confirmation), of forgiveness (Penance or
Reconciliation), and of healing (Anointing of the Sick). Jesus continues to unite all members of the Church by the grace given in the
Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, continues to help married men and women to be faithful through the Sacrament of Matrimony, and
continues to call to service those who would dedicate their life in the priestly ministry (Holy Orders).

Read the story of the Gospel “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me” (luke 4:18-21)
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[a]
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.

Deepening
In the gospel Jesus teaches us that:

▪ We realize in this Gospel the proclamation that the “Spirit of the Lord is upon Jesus”.

▪ Charity or love is the center of holiness that unites worship of God and service to others as Christ taught in His great

commandments of Love. The Church teaches that “love is the bond of perfection and fulfilment of the law, governs gives meaning to, and
perfects all the means of attaining holiness.

▪ Who calls us to be holy?

▪ How can we share in the holy being of God?
