EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

lift irrigation project construction is on Progress status by Oromia Construction

agreement with Oromia Seed Enterprise Under Close Supervision
Engineering Corporation of Oromia.
The project is intended to provide irrigation and the overall objective of the study is to bring the proposed
area under irrigation based agricultural development.

The major duties and responsibilities of the Consultant include review and analysis work schedule,
analysis and review of the cost estimate and submission and Approval of contract document like
Drawing and technical specification, issue taking-over payment certificate or instruct the
contractor and subcontractors to complete outstanding work, Construction supervision, approval
contractor and subcontractor work requisition , comment on the Contract Document and assisting
the Client during negotiation.

PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS, SCOPES AND OBJECTIVES
Serofta Lift Irrigation Project is located Dodola woreda, West Arsi zone of Oromia Regional State at
distance of 350 km far from Finfinnee in serofta state farm.

The contract agreement made between Oromia construction corporation and Oromia seed Enterprise for
Construction of Serofta Lift Irrigation Project with Contract amount of 92,270,620.03 (Eighty-Eight
million, Two Hundred Seventy Thousand, Six Hundred Twenty and 03/100 ETB) with 15% VAT.
Source of water for this irrigation project is Wabe River, which has season flow and the system of
conveyance canals discharge capacity of ….l/s and Duty for 12hrs of irrigation is …l/s/ha, it will be
propose to irrigate the existing net command area of about 383 ha during dry season in order to benefit
serofta state farm.

The major components of the works undertaken in this project were: general items, earthen
canal excavation and farm structures works, rising main and electromechanical works.
nowadays the construction of the project is on progress and active in this week besides the
physical and financial progress of this project based on original contract information was 30%
and 0.00% respectively.

CONSTRUCTION PLAN OF THE YEAR

Under this Contract agreement annual plan 2015 was prepared to perform following major
activities:

❖ General items

❖ Earthen Canal excavation and farm structures


❖ Pump station and Rising main

TODATE EXECUTED WORK


➢ Total Earthen branch canal 1-2 Excavation was executed about 520m
➢ Earthen secondary canal 1-4 excavation was executed about 980m
➢ Earthen secondary canal 1-5 excavation was executed about 880m
➢ There were 18 tertiary canals excavated
➢ Total Earthen MR-2 Excavation was executed about 920m
➢ Total Earthen MR-1 canal excavation was executed about 500m
➢ Generator house construction was about 30%

DETAIL EXECUTED WORK IN THIS WEEK PROGRESS OF THE PROJECT


➢ Total Earthen MR-1 canal excavation was executed about 5058m
➢ Earthen secondary canal 1-1 is executed about 389m
➢ Earthen secondary canal 1-2 is executed about 1274m
➢ Earthen secondary canal 1-3 is executed about 443m
➢ Pond bulk excavation performed about 375m^3
➢ Generator house construction execute about 60%.

Daily Supervision and contract administration tasks activities in this week


➢ Inspection of site condition to facilitate in order to proceed work
➢ Approval of contractor work requisition
➢ Contract administration works

Major Problems Encountered on the Site


➢ No Full design and contract documents
➢ Bench marks are not Establishment at headwork
➢ There is design gap on general system layout of the project and Project feasibility (Pump
station and generator house location, irrigation duty, flow base and conveyance system)
➢ No forwarding work flow and sequence(construct generator house before pump station fix)
➢ Consultant and contractor office and accommodation are not facilitated
➢ Rain case for a week
Measure Taken for the problems
➢ Bench marks are established by consultant surveyor at headwork of rising main line.
➢ Review and revise the design drawing and order the subcontractor outstanding works
➢ Selecting the pump station with option based on river profile and water depth
➢ Instruct and advices the contractor and subcontractor to correct the defections works before
consultant handover the site
