Module 5: Operation of Rice Cooker and Function

The document discusses the parts and functions of a rice cooker. It identifies six main parts: 1. The AC line cord connects the rice cooker to a power source. 2. The heating plate or cast heater holds the cooking pot in place and generates heat to cook the rice. 3. The thermal fuse prevents overheating by triggering when temperatures get too high. 4. The thermostat bimetal temperature controller allows control of temperature through contact levers that open and close electricity. 5. The thermostat assembly contains a thermal sensor that depresses based on the weight of the cooking pot to measure temperature and control heat. 6. The aluminum pan is where rice and water

Introduction
This lesson introduces an electronically controlled domestic appliance
particularly the rice cooker. It contains information and learning activities in
maintaining and repairing a rice cooker, troubleshooting, assembling, and
disassembling with a safety precaution and testing the unit.

This lesson delivers to the learners the fundamental knowledge and skills in
maintaining and rice cooker. The learning activities tend to improve the critical
thinking and skills of students relating to the process of troubleshooting and
maintaining and operation of the rice cooker.
A basic rice cooker has a main body
(pot), an inner cooking container
which holds the rice, an electric
heating element, and a thermostat.
The bowl is filled with rice and
water and heated at full power; the
water reaches and stays at boiling
point of (100 °C, 212 °F).
MAIN PARTS
OF THE RICE
COOKER
1. AC LINE CORD
It is made up of two. AC line is used
to connect the unit to a power
source.
An AC power cord is a detachable
way of providing an alternating
current of electric energy from a
mains power supply to an electrical
appliance or equipment.
2. HEATING PLATE OR CAST HEATER
It is the part that has a thermal
contact to the thermostat assembly
that holds the aluminum pan in
place and keeps the rice until it will
be cooked.
Cast Heater - is fused with metal.
Generate 300-400 watts, depending
on the type of cookery. If this section
be damage, it is not possible to
repair.
3. THERMAL FUSE
Thermal fuse is a device used to
prevent appliances from
overheating. A thermal fuse is
different from a thermal switch.
They are triggered by temperature
but, they differ in action.
4. THERMOSTAT BIMETAL
TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER
It is a part connected to the
thermostat assembly which allows the
control of temperature. It has contact
levers that open and closes for the
proper transfer of electricity that
produces heat
5. THERMOSTAT ASSEMBLY
At its simplest, a rice cooker works via a
thermostat. Inside the center of the
heating plate is a small thermal sensing
device on a spring. When rice and water
are placed in the cooking pot, which
goes into the rice cooker, the weight of
the pot depresses the thermal sensor.
It is a magnet and spring, measures the
temperatures of the cooking
pot, and controls heat.
6. Aluminum Pan

–It is a part where

we place the rice
and the water for
cooking.
