17. Sodium chloride (NaCl) is a non-volatile solute. When added to water taken 2
in a beaker, the solute occupies some surface area. As a result, the vapour
pressure decreases and the boiling point of solution increases. On the other
hand, methyl alcohol is more volatile than water. The addition of methyl
alcohol to water increases the total vapour pressure of the solution. The
boiling point of the solution decreases. Or (vantHoff factor for NaCl =2)
18. a) Rate will increase 4 times of the actual rate of reaction 1
b) 2nd order 1
19. (a) KCN is predominantly ionic and provides cyanide ions in solution.. 1
However, AgCN is mainly covalent in nature and nitrogen is free to donate
electron pair forming isocyanide as the main product.

(b) C6H11-CH2Cl is primary halide and therefore undergoes SN2 reaction
faster.
20. (a) less steric hinderance in CH3CHO 1
(b) -I effect in chloroacetic acid 1
OR
(a) Semi carbazide has two –NH2 groups but one of these which is directly 1
attached to C=O is involved in resonance. Electron density on NH2 group
decreases hence it does not act as nucleophile.
(b)It is a reversible reaction. Therefore, to shift the equilibrium in the 1
forward direction, the water or the ester should be removed as fast as it is
formed
21. (a) Fibrous proteins: They are long and thread like fibres. Examples, 1
keratin, collagen
Globular proteins: The molecules form spheroid shapes. Examples,
haemoglobin, insulin
(b) The nitrogenous base and a pentose sugar are called as nucleosides.
The nitrogenous base, a pentose sugar and a phosphate group are called as 1
nucleotides.
22. ∆Go = -nFEocell 1
∆Go = -2 x 96500 x 1.05 = -202650 J
∆Go = -2.303RTlogKc 1
∆G
logKc = - 2.303𝑅𝑇 = -202650/8.314 x 2.303x298 = 35.51

(b) Correct expression 1
24. When [Co(NH3)5Cl] SO4 is treated with Barium Chloride solution, a white 1
precipitate of BaSO4 is formed. But [Co(NH3)5(SO4)]Cl does not give
white ppt with BaSO4 solution.
(B) In [NiCl4]2- complex ion, is paramagnetic because it contains two
unpaired electrons. In [Ni(CO)4], is diamagnetic since it contains no
unpaired electron. 1

(b)
In the case of compound. A. rate of reaction depends upon the
concentration of . A. only, the reaction proceeds through the SN1

(a) (i) Ortho nitrophenol has intramolecular H bonding whereas p-nitro
phenol has intermolecular H bonding. 1/2
(ii)
(b) Lucas reagent test 2-Pentanol will give white turbidity after 5 minutes
but 1-Pentanol will not give at room temperature. Or 2 pentanol give 1.5

( a) Cu | Cu2+. || Ag+ |Ag 1
(b) At equilibrium 1
(c) Correct equation, increases 1,1
31 (a) i=2 1
W2= Tf x M2x W1/i x Kf x1000 1
W2=2x58.5x37.2/2x1.86x1000=1.17g 1
(b) (i) When scuba divers go deep in the sea, solubility of atmospheric
gases increases in blood. When the divers come up, there is release of
dissolved gases and it leads to the formation of bubbles of nitrogen in our 1
blood capillaries and hence there is painful sensation called bends. To avoid
bends; the tanks of scuba divers are filled with He,N₂ and oxygen.
(ii) At high altitude, partial pressure of oxygen is low, it leads to low
concentration of oxygen in blood of people living there. Low concentration
of oxygen develops anoxia, i.e., unable to think and act properly. 1
OR
(a) ΔTb = Kb m = (Kb x wB x 1000)/MB x wA
(0.52 x 18 x 1000) / (180 x 1000) = 0.052 1
boiling point of the solution = 373.15 + 0.052 = 373.202 K 1
(b) Osmotic pressure
(c) Minimum boiling azeotropes show positive deviation from Raoult’s 1
law. 1
(d) The solvent will flow from the solution into the pure solvent
reverse osmosis 1

(d) Due to the presence of vacant orbitals or their tendency to form variable
oxidation state.
(e) On the basis of incompletely filled 3d orbitals in case of scandium atom
in its ground state (3d1), it is regarded as a transition element. On the other
hand, zinc atom has completely filled d orbitals (3d10) in its ground state as
well as in its oxidised state; hence it is not regarded as a transition element
(f) This is because of relatively poor shielding by 5f electrons in actinoids
in comparison with shielding of 4f electrons in lanthanoids
(g)This is because of the small energy difference between 5f , 6d and 7s
orbitals.
33 (a) A = C6H5COOH, Benzoic Acid ½+½
B = C6H5CONH2, Benzamide ½+½
C = C6H5NH2. Aniline ½+½

(b) (i) any Loss of proton from amines gives amide ion whereas loss of
proton from alcohol gives alkoxide ion. O is more electronegative
than N, therefore, alkoxide ion can accommodate the negative
charge more easily than amide ion. Alkoxide ion is more stable than
1
amide ion. Thus, alcohols are more acidic than amines. Amines are
mainly basic.
(ii)Primary amines (RNH2) form intermolecular hydrogen bonding
But Tertiary amine (R3N) do not have hydrogen and do not form
1
hydrogen bond.
(iii)Aromatic amines are less basic character due to resonance.
