CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY

1 Plate Girders Shall be fabricated at fabrication plant.

2 The Foundation and substructure shall be cast in Situ. The bearings shall be placed at their
location before launching of girders.
3 Plate Girders shall be launched and rested on bearings.
4 Cross Diaphragms etc. shall be bolted/welded.
5 Shuttering and formwork for casting of deck slab shall be supported by the main girders.
6 Deck slab shall be cast-in-situ.
7 Deck slab shuttering shall be removed after the deck slab has gained its required strength.

The main girders shall be designed for the following stages.

Stage-1 It is the stage where the Girders have been launched and resting on bearings but there is
no lateral restraint to girders. Only selfweight of girder is acting.

Stage-2 In this stage, deck slab is poured. The girders have lateral restraint. The selfweight of
girders, weight of shuttering and weight of green concrete of deck slab are acting along

Stage-3 Service stage when the girders are subjected to all service loads.

Design Against Vertical Shear and its effect on plastic moment capacity
V <= Vd

The vertical shear force is assumed to be resisted by the web of the steel section only unless the value for a contribution for
