About Ramaiah Institute of Technology
Ramaiah Institute of Technology is a self financing institution established in the year
1962 by the industrialist and philanthropist, late Dr. M.S. Ramaiah. The mission
statement of GEF is to deliver education and health for the betterment of mankind.
The Institute runs thirteen undergraduate programs and ten postgraduate programs.
Twelve of the departments are recognized as research centers by Visvesvaraya
Technological University. All the departments are accredited by the National Board of
Accreditation, New Delhi.
The Institute has been granted academic autonomy for both UG and PG
programs by Visvesvaraya Technological University from the academic year 2007-
08. The Institute participated in the Technical Education Quality Improvement
Program (TEQIP), an initiative of the Government of India. Some noteworthy
features of RIT are: State of the art laboratories, sufficient number of computer
facilities for staff and students, campus wide networking connecting all (~2000)
systems to the net. MSRIT has been accredited by NAAC with A+ grade on March 1
2021 for a period of 5 years and ranked 65 in 2021 by MHRD’s NIRF ranking
amongst the 100 premier institutes of the country.
About the Department of Biotechnology
The Department of Biotechnology established in 2002 offers a four year B.E.
Biotechnology Program with an intake of 60 students and a two years PG Program,
M.Tech in Biotechnology with an intake of 18 students. The department also offers a
one year PG Diploma in Biopharmaceutical Technology under the Biotechnology Skill
Enhancement programme (BiSEP) funded by KBITS , Govt. of Karnataka. The
Department has excellent infrastructure and state of the art laboratories.
The department has been recognized Research Centre by VTU,
Belgaum, offering M.Sc (Engg.) by research and PhD programs. The department has
15 faculty members, of them 14 are PhD holders. The faculty members have
competence in Core areas of Biotechnology viz., Food and Agricultural
Biotechnology, Health and Medical Biotechnology & Environmental Biotechnology
and Bioprocess Engineering. The department research is focused towards these core
areas and funded by national and state funding agencies like DST, AICTE, VGST,
VTU and RGUHS.

About the Department of Chemistry

The Chemistry department is one of the oldest departments (established in 1962) of
the RIT. The department has well-qualified and experienced faculty, all are Doctorate
holders. The department has state-of-the-art laboratories and the necessary
infrastructure. The department has received grants from DST, VGST, Boeing R & T
India Centre, and VTU. The department aims at preparing the students for careers in
all engineering aspects and also carries out basic and applied research work. The
department has R & D center recognized by VTU, Belgaum, and it offers research in
Nanotechnology, Materials science, Catalysis, Bio-inorganic, Organic and Natural
products. All the faculties in the department are highly active researchers and
recognized research guides under VTU. Department has published more than 200
international research papers in recent years and received more than one crore
research grants independently and in collaboration with engineering departments.
About Shriram Institute for Industrial Research
Shriram Institute for Industrial Research (SRI) is an independent, self sustaining, not-
for-profit multidisciplinary contract research institute conducting research and
development in the areas of special significance to industry, government agencies and
other organizations. SRI is committed to develop, innovate, analyze and apply
technology for products and processes. SRI also brings its innovations to the
marketplace by licensing its technologies and helps in establishing production units for
the interested clients.
The Analytical Sciences Division provides prompt, precise and dependable
analytical services in the fields of metal and minerals, rubber and plastics, building
materials, paper, leather and textiles, chemicals and agrochemicals, food and
pharmaceuticals, petroleum products, home appliances and Microbiological studies.
The Division standardizes develop and validate new methods for analysis . It provides
assistance to customers to ensure the quality of products laid down by various
certifying agencies and statutory bodies. It also provides Calibration services. SRI’s Life
Sciences Division conducts research on various aspects of Environment including
Biological Impact Studies, Rapid Environmental Impact Studies and Comprehensive
Environmental Impact Studies. The Division undertakes toxicological studies to
establish safety levels of chemicals, agrochemicals and herbal products. Shriram
Applied Radiation Centre, SARC, established with the technical assistance of BARC,
conducts research in polymer modifications and undertakes irradiation of life saving
medical and surgical products and spices.
