Tutorial Sheet 7multivariate Calculus

1. The document contains 10 problems related to engineering mathematics involving topics like implicit differentiation, transformations, maxima and minima, and functional relationships. 2. Problems 1-3 involve checking functional relationships between variables under different transformations and using implicit differentiation. 3. Problems 4-7 require finding partial derivatives of functions, establishing derivative relationships, and applying chain rule calculations. 4. Problems 8-10 focus on finding relative and absolute maximum and minimum values of multivariate functions over specified regions.

so, find the relationship between them

(a) u = x2 − y 2 − z 2 , v = x2 − y 2 + z 2 , w = x4 + y 4 + z 4 − 2x2 y 2 .
(b) u = (x + y)/(1 − xy), v = tan−1 x + tan−1 y, x > 0, y > 0, xy < 1.
(c) u = x + y + z, v = x2 + y 2 + z 2 − 2xy − 2yz − 2zx, w = x3 + y 3 + z 3 − 3xyz.

2. Using implicit differentiation, obtain the following:
