NO THANKS!

Variants

NUMBER OF ROUNDS
The game is played in several rounds, keeping track of scores of each player for each round.
The player with the best score at the end of the last round is the winner. As for the numbers of
rounds, choose one of these alternatives:

 3 rounds ‐ the start player for the 1st round is decided randomly and for the 2nd and 3rd
round it’s the player with the best score in the previous round.
 number of rounds = number of players ‐ the start player for the 1st round is decided
randomly and then it changes clockwise in each new round.

OPEN CHIPS
The game is played with open chips. This adds the tension of whether someone who is running
low on chips will decide to bite early or late on the cards at play.

GAME FOR 6 PLAYERS

Each player receives 9 chips at the start of the round.

PRIVATE INFORMATION
Instead of removing 9 cards from the game as usual, deal a certain number of cards face down
to each player:

3 players: 3 cards to each player (9 total)

4 players: 2 cards to each player (8 total)
5 players: 2 cards to each player (10 total)

Players look at their card(s), keeping them secretly during the game. They are treated as out of
play cards.

PRIVATE INFORMATION WITH CARD DRAFTING

Use the rules from Private Information variant. After you receive your cards and look at them,
pass 1 of them to the player to the right and 1 to the player to the left.

PRIVATE INFORMATION WITH TURN SKIPPING

Use the rules from Private Information variant. On a player’s turn, instead of paying 1 chip or
picking the card, he can play one of the cards from his hand to his play area. The game
continues with the player to the left (thus working like a “skip” action). The cards played from
the player’s hand work just like the rest of the cards for all purposes (sequencing and scoring).

PRIVATE INFORMATION WITH CARD AUCTIONING

Use the rules from Private Information variant. After a player picks up a card, instead of
turning face up the card from the top of the pile, he can play one of the cards from his hand to
the center of the table. Game continues clockwise, with players paying 1 chip or picking up
that card.

PRIVATE INFORMATION WITH FORCED CARDS

Use the rules from Private Information variant. In the end of the round, a player can pay 3
chips for each of the cards in his hand that he wants to put out of the game. The cards not
payed for are placed in the player’s play area and count for sequencing and scoring purposes
just like the regular cards.

OFFICIAL VARIANT
The three cards with the numbers 10, 20 and 30 are removed from the game. Shuffle the
remaining cards and put 6 cards out of play. The rules of the game are otherwise unchanged.

Most of these variants can be combined together for different flavoured games of No Thanks!
