What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea?

Students will be able to identify what hibernation is, the animals that hibernate, and where they
hibernate through the use of Web 2.0 tools.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic

of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based (Real world problems) and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

Students and teachers will explore the technology that is used in the lesson. Students will stay engaged
through voice overs, a YouTube video, and interactive games and assessments. As students start learning
about hibernation, they will need to use their real-world knowledge about animals to help discover the
different types of animals that hibernate. They will also use authentic real-world tasks through building a mini
“hibernation area” with outside objects for an animal of their choice. This task along with the Microsoft Forms
assessment will help the educator to grasp students learning.
Managing student learning:
This technology-based lesson is almost completely student-led. Students will be able to work at their
own pace and back-tract or move ahead when they are ready.

In order to keep students on task, a time limit of 25 minutes for the Microsoft Forms assessment is
given to the students.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This lesson will support engagement by keeping students continuously interactive through their
interest of animals. It fosters collaboration and community while promoting expectations that
optimizes motivation. The lesson supports representation by offering alternative for visual
information such as the audio of the YouTube video with the subtitles that students can choose to
turn on. Finally, the lesson supports Action and Expression through optimizing access to tools and
assistive technologies and enhancements for monitoring progress.

Reflective Practice:
Using Padlet to implement a lesson allows for students to build an understanding of hibernation in a
way that traditional tools cannot by attaching multiple activities, videos, and assessments for
students to actively participate in. The most exciting section that is implemented in this lesson,
would be the interactive game. This allows for students to explore a new website while having fun
matching and learning about animals and where they hibernate.
