Tourism is the act and process of spending time away from home in pursuit of recreation, relaxation,
and pleasure, while making use of the commercial provision of services.

The term "agro-tourism is often used interchangeably with "agro-tourism," "agro-tourism," "farm
tourism," "agricultural tourism," or "agritainment"

Agro-tourism is a field that is growing in popularity as producers try to diversify and increase profits.
By combining agriculture and tourism, agro-tourism offers new sources of revenue but also presents
potential problems and legal complications to agro-tourism operators

Philippines, as one of the countries with rich natural resources, biodiversity wise and cover with a
strong cultural root. Agro-tourism is never new to the country since it been present for ages as one of
the sources of living of our fellow countrymen. As a developing country, it is ideal for tourist destinations
wherein they could freely succumb to the hidden beauty of the country and experience how
magnanimously treasure like it was.

Agro-tourism has been present on the Puppies the 1960s was not institutionally defined then. In those
early days most agro-tourism farms were either privately owned of managed

In 1991, the Philippines Department of Tourism (007) and the United Nations Development Program
(UNDP) came together and formulated the Philippine Tourism Master Plan (TMP), aimed at developing
tourism on an environmentally sustainable basis. In 2002, the Department of Agriculture (DAR) and DOT
issued a joint circular that identified 10 agro-tourism sites in the country. With this accreditation, all
sites would have to adhere to the minimum standards prescribed by the Department for all operations
and maintenance activities, guaranteeing a satisfactory visit for the tourists.

As a tropical country with an abundance of natural resources, biological diversity and a strong cultural
heritage, the Philippines is well-positioned for agro tourism. At present, the Philippines has a total of 32
agro-tourism sites, including 27 protected areas consisting of strawberry and organic vegetable farms in
Benguet, as well as pineapple and coffee plantations in Bukidnon. The Philippines also hosts various
events, including farmers' field days and agricultural fairs, which are estimated to be attended by 64,000
tourists each year

Simply stated, agro-tourism could be thought of as the crossroads of tourism and agriculture. Stated
more technically, agro-tourism can be defined as a form of commercial enterprise that links agricultural
production and/or processing with tourism in order to attract visitors onto a farm, ranch, or other
agricultural business for the purposes of entertaining and/or educating the visitors and generating
income for the farm, ranch, or business owner.
Regardless of the exact definition or terminology, any definition of agro-tourism should include the
following four factors: combines the essential elements of the tourism and agriculture industries,
attracts members of the public to visit agricultural operations is designed to increase farm income, and
provides recreation, entertainment, and/or educational experiences to visitors

Agro-tourism operations exist throughout the United States and the world. These operations range
from small operations that operate on a seasonal basis and offer limited consumer services to large
operations that operate throughout the year and provide numerous consumer services.

Agro-tourism presents a unique opportunity to combine aspects of the tourism and agriculture
industries to provide a number of financial, educational, and social benefits to tourists, producers, and
communities. Agro-tourism gives producers an opportunity to generate additional income and an
avenue for direct marketing to consumers It enhances the tourism industry by increasing the volume of
