DESIGN CALCULATION

Name of work:- Construction of Storage Structures across the Nallahs of Sal river for ground water
recharge and water harvesting in Salcete Taluka (10 nos.).

(i) CALCULATION OF MAXIMUM FLOOD DISCHARGE :

High flood discharge level observed is upto 2.50 mts above bed level.
Cross-sectional area of river = 105.00m2
Wetted perimeter of river = 12.80mts
Bed slope of river = 1: 200
Catchment area A = 5.187 Sq.Km
By Inglis Formula:

Q= 123 x A = 123 x 5.187 = 161.93 m3/sec

√ (A + 10.4) √ (5.187 + 10.4)

Where , A = Catchment area (sq. km) = 5.187

Q = Discharge in maximum flood

DESIGN OF APRON:

Storage height = 2.50m

Bligh’s Coeffient (C) = 12

Total Creep length provided = 2x2+2x1.40+2x1+2x0.40+0.30+7.50+2x5+2.5+3.50 =33.40m

Total creep length = 33.40m

L1 = Length of D/S apron

L2 = Length of U/S apron
b = Width of bandhara

Length of D/s Apron L1 = 2.21 X C x √H/10

= 2.21 x 12x √2.50/10
= 13.26m
Provide length L1 = 13.50m

Length of U/S Apron = L2 = L – L1 = ( b +2d1+2d2+2d3)

= 33.40 -13.50 - ( 2.50 + 2x2 + 2x2+2 )
L2= 7.40m

Provide length = 7.50m

Length thickness of U/S Apron as 0.60m

Residual pressure @ A = 2.50 – 2.50 x (2+1.40+7.50+1.00) = 1.61

33.40

Thickness required = 1.33 x 1.61 = 1.53m

1.40

Provide thickness as 1.60m

Residual pressure @ ‘B’ = 2.50 – 2.50 x (13.15 +1.40+2x1+1.25) = 1.24

33.40

Thickness required = 1.33 x 1.24 = 1.178m

1.40

Provide thickness as 1.20m

Residual head @ ‘C’ = 2.50 - 2.50 x (16.80+0.40+5.00) = 0.84

33.40

Thickness required = 1.33 x 0.84 = 0.798m

1.40

Provide thickness as 0.80m

Residual head @ ‘ D’ = 2.50 – 2.50 x (22.20+0.30+5.00) = 0.45m

33.40

Thickness required = 1.33 x 0.45 = 0.42m

1.40

Provide thickness as 0.60m
