c Correcting angle of loll has to be done with caution taking into consideration the very
delicate stability of the vessel. This is rectified by either adding weight to the low part of
the ship or removing weight from the high part. Ballasting of DB is usually preferred. Centre
tanks, if any, should be ballasted first followed by tanks on the low side. Select tanks with
the smallest breadth as this will reduce the free surface effect during the ballasting
operation. Ballasting the centre tanks or tanks on the low side will improve the ship's GM.
However, care should be taken as this will cause a far greater list.
