Exercise 3 (Transient Response Analysis)

This document contains 12 exercises related to analyzing the transient response of control systems using concepts like rise time, peak time, settling time, damping ratio, natural frequency, stability analysis using Routh's criterion, and state space modeling. The exercises involve calculating these metrics for different open-loop and closed-loop transfer functions, determining parameter values that satisfy specified response characteristics, deriving and plotting output responses, and analyzing spring-mass-damper systems.

of maximum overshoot.

(2) Determine the values of  and n for the following closed-loop system under the unit step input so
that the settling time is 2 sec according to 2% criterion (2% of maximum overshoot).

R( s ) s  2n s  n 2

(3) For a system as shown in the following figure, determine the values of K and k so that the damping
ratio and undamped natural frequency are 0.7 and 4 rad/sec, respectively.

(4) For a system as shown in the following figure, determine the rise time, peak time and settling time
when the value of k is 0.2.

Derive and plot the output response of the system for the unit ramp input.

(6) The open-loop transfer function of a unity feedback system is given by
