ABOUT NMIMS
SVKM’S NMIMS, School of Law, Navi Mumbai was
established in 2018 and aims to provide quality legal education
by offering two courses, B.A. LL.B(Hons) and B.B.A.
LL.B(Hons.). The courses are best designed to enable the
students to think about law in the real world by helping
students develop their skills of presentation and interpretation
most efficiently. Students are exposed to various para-
academic activities such as Alternative Dispute Resolution,
Moot Court, Debates, Drafting, etc. Ranked as the 7th Best
Private Law College in India Today’s Best Colleges, it
synchronously emphasizes on skill development to ensure that
the students are shaped as leaders who can thrive amidst the
challenging dynamics of an international environment.
ABOUT THE ALTERNATIVE
DISPUTE RESOLUTION COMMITEE

The Alternative Dispute Resolution


Committee (ADR) was constituted to
promote interest in ADR methodologies
given its relevance to the legal profession.
The ADR committee was established in
2018 as an initiative to provide a platform
for ADR enthusiasts from across the world
to interact with the NMIMS student body
to facilitate knowledge and growth in this
emerging field.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Dr. Shubhasheesh Bhattacharya

Dr. Shubhasheesh Bhattacharya is an accomplished professional,


renowned for his notable academic background and 34 years of
experience in the academic sector. Holding a Ph.D. in management
and being an alumnus of IMT Ghaziabad, he has served in various
distinguished roles such as Director, Professor, and HOD in
reputable institutions. With 18 SCOPUS Indexed publications to
his credit, he has also delivered keynote speeches internationally.
Dr. Shubhasheesh is dedicated to fostering academic excellence at
the campus, overseeing administrative functions, establishing
institutional infrastructure, and enhancing the academic
curriculum.

Greetings,
It gives me immense pleasure to present to you all National Mediation Competition, 2024 in
collaboration with Khaitan & Co. organized by NMIMS School of Law, Navi Mumbai.
The School of Law was established under the aegis of the NMIMS university in 2018. Over
the years, it has been recognized and ranked as one of the leading law colleges in the
country.

Alternate Dispute Resolution today is increasingly considered the norm rather than an
exception as conceived earlier. The competition is an excellent opportunity to sharpen your
advocacy skills with a focus on ADR methods in the ever-evolving legal and economic
environment. The aim is to foster the study of mediation and provide practical training to
students interested in the field. Alongside, it is also a melting pot for experts, academicians
and students who find ADR as the focal point of their interests.

I hope that this event would be productive and provide an unparalleled learning curve to all
the participants. More than anything else, wish you a fun filled and an enriching experience
at the event.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The National Mediation Competition is set to take place on
the 13th and 14th of April 2024. We are very enthusiastic to
announce the competition since we have received a great
response from the students for our previous editions that took
place with participants from various law schools throughout
the country. This event will provide the students with an
opportunity to experience, learn, and put their knowledge to
practice in a healthy competition and environment with the
proposition having various aspects of company law. Since the
inception of this committee, we have been moving forward
with our goal to foster the development of ADR amongst the
students. The students are met with an exciting proposition
and confidential information before the rounds for them to
mitigate and construct well thought strategies.
ABOUT THE DRAFTER

Adv. Aasif Navodia, a graduate of D.E.S Law


College and currently is a senior associate in
Khaitan and Co. and specialises in the field of
Intellectual Property Law. He was a speaker at
The Amikus Qriae’s course on Intellectual
Property Law. He also specialises in commercial
litigation, trademark and copyright
prosecution, civil litigation, trademark
infringement and copyright infringement.
Additionally, he has an avid experience in
representation before various courts and
tribunals.
ABOUT CAMP MEDIATION

CAMP MEDIATION is a pioneering


institution that seeks to provide high
quality mediation services through an
experienced and certified panel of dispute
resolution professionals. CAMP
MEDIATION seeks to offer the
community a space where quality
mediation as a form of dispute resolution
is easily accessible.
PREVIOUS EDITIONS

2021
Rachna: National Negotiation-Mediation Competition, which was
held in 2021, with L&L Partners as our patrons, supported by Samvad
Partners, Live Law, SCC Online and EBC. ADR committee hosted its
first ever National Negotiation-Mediation Competition that enabled
students to exercise their advocacy skills within the ADR process. The
competition aimed to provide a forum for students to utilize and shape
their skills which are important for the alternative dispute resolution
methodology. The competition also provided an excellent opportunity
to put theory into effect by having participants to represent all parties
involved in the process of Negotiation as well as Mediation, including
the client and counsel in case of Negotiation, and client, counsel and
mediator for Mediation.

2023
The vision of NMIMS, School of Law for promoting Alternative
Dispute Resolution (ADR) can be best achieved by organizing and
hosting student teams from universities across the nation at our
flagship event– Usha: National Arbitration Moot, 2023. The
Arbitration Moot is a simulation of a dispute arising out of a contract
between two parties, which provides for settlement through arbitration
in India.
STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
1. The Participants should be enrolled in a 3 year or 5 year law
course from a recognized university.
2. There can be a maximum of 2 teams from each
Institution/College.
3. Cross institutional teams are not eligible to participate in the
competition.

TEAM COMPOSITION
1. Each team shall comprise of 3 participants- 1 Mediator, 1
Client and 1 Counsel.
2. Throughout the rounds, the participants' roles will not
change.
3. Each round will include co-mediators from other
institutes.
4. In any round, no mediator will mediate their own

Institution/College, except the final round if both the

mediator and the mediating pair of the same institution

qualify.
FORMAT

1. The competition will be held in an online mode on Zoom.


2. The three participants of the team should be divided into the
following:
A Mediator
A Mediating Pair with two members each who would
represent the responsibilities of client and counsel each.
3. Each university's mediating pair and mediator will be
competing separately.
4. Each round of mediation will be mediated and will comprise
of two mediating pairs and two mediators.
5. There will be two preliminary rounds followed by quarter-
finals, semi finals, and finals.
6. One or two teams, consisting of three participants each, may
be sent by each university, depending on the availability of
the slots.

REGISTRATION
All teams participating in the competition are required to
pay a registration fee of INR 4000 inclusive of GST.

address and pan card should also be supplemented
while the payment for the final registration
AWARDS
The competition promises to reward excellence and promote
healthy competition by offering exciting awards, more awards
will be revealed soon!

The Winning Mediating Pair will receive a cash prize of Rs.


12,000.

The runner-up Mediating Pair will receive a cash prize of Rs.


9000.

The Winning Mediator will receive a cash prize of Rs. 6000.

The Runner-up Mediator will receive a cash prize of Rs.


4500.

These awards serve to recognize and encourage the hard work,


dedication, and expertise of the participants while incentivizing
them to strive for excellence in their profession. The awards
demonstrate the competition’s commitment to fostering a culture
of excellence and advancing the field of law.
