ABOUT THE MEDIATION CELL
Mediation Cell is a newly established cell under the ageis of Legal Aid Clinic,
CUSB focusing on the increasing demand of the Alternate Dispute
Resolution (ADR) in the society. Cognisant of the rising role of ADR in
dealing with cases outside the courtroom, the Cell endeavours to prepare the
students for mediation and other related tools of ADR. This initiative will not
only assist law students to learn more about the ADR processes but it also
will cause multitude of students from other levels to learn about ADR
methodologies for solving disputes hence embracing diversity in conflict
solution approaches.
Additionally, the Mediation Cell helps the students learn and practice a
culture of peaceful conflict resolution, encouraging open communication and
understanding among disputing parties. The Mediation Cell will actively
organize mediation competitions and help students participate in
competitions at national and international levels, offering an opportunity to
hone the mediation skills in a competitive environment.
The Mediation Cell is proud to announce its 1st ever Intra Mediation
Competition, ‘SAMVAAD’. Samvaad aims to provide a platform for the law
students to enhance their mediation skills, fostering a culture of alternative
dispute resolution. This event seeks to promote awareness about mediation as
an effective and efficient method of resolving legal conflicts.
A mediation team is mostly a three member team i.e., a mediator, a client and a
counsel. While client is the one involved in the dispute and the counsel makes
the dispute settlement process logically sound, the mediator facilitate the whole
session for a peaceful and amicable solution. From a competition perspective,
the client is the one who is involved in active negotiation with the other party
because it is ultimately his interest, which is negotiated upon. The competition
will be divided into multiple rounds, with participants evaluated on different
aspects of mediation, such as effective communication, negotiation strategy,
teamwork, and ethical considerations.
