1.0 INTRODUCTION
This method statement provides guidance and site rules to employees and Sub Contractors for the
protection of personnel engaged in the galvanic anode installation.
The intent of this method statement is to provide the broad outline as to how the site works shall
be executed for the South Ghawar Transmission Pipeline Project, controlled, and delivered as per
the schedule with utmost importance to Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental
requirements. The detailed method statement to which construction shall be carried out.
The main objective of the overall BI-34-15420-2002 is to provide grassroot development for
gathering well fluid from wells spread across the Mazalij and Mihwaz fields, using a system of
new flowlines, trunk lines and remote headers. The trunklines are routed to a new Gas Separation
Plant (GSP), located central to the development area, where the well fluid shall be separated into
three components: gas; condensate and produced water. The raw gas and condensate will be
processed and transmitted to Haradh Gas Plant (HdGP) as single phase. The produced water shall
be sent through a pipeline to disposal wells located in areas adjacent to the GSP
The Project Scope under this Contract, BI-10-14331, includes:
All works related to Gas Transmission Pipeline from GSP (Gas Separation Plant) to
Haradh Gas Plant including Launcher/Receiver Traps, Vents, Drains, Burn Pits and
MLIVs (Main Line Isolation Valves) etc.
All works related to Condensate Transmission Pipeline from GSP (Gas Separation Plant)
to Haradh Gas Plant including Launcher/Receiver Traps, Vents, Drains, Burn Pits and
MLIVs (Main Line Isolation Valves) etc.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
Following are the responsibilities and reporting structure of personnel involved in the scope of
the procedure:
CONSTRUCTION MANAGER
The company QA and QC Manager are the representative of the project and has the responsibility for
the implementation and maintenance of the quality management system.
QC SUPERVISOR / QC INSPECTOR:
Shall carry out planned inspections, surveillance inspections, and release hold points by signing various
quality records as proof of inspection conforming to specifications.
QA/QC Inspector shall issue Request for Inspection (RFI) to Saudi Aramco as defined by the SATIP
using Saudi Aramco form Eng. # 6717 or thru Quality Management Information System (QMIS).
QC Inspector shall accompany the Saudi Aramco representative to carry out routine inspections and
release hold points by signing and obtaining the Saudi Aramco representative approval signatures on
the various quality records as proof of inspection conforming to specifications
Shall be responsible for ensuring that the project construction per IFC packages and conforming to
Saudi Aramco Standards.
SAFETY OFFICER:
The assigned Safety Officer shall be responsible for the observance of all safety precautions required.
The location of each anode bed, junction boxes and cable route shall be marked at site during (stakes)
as per IFC project’s drawings.
Temporary access road and pad should be constructed to provide access into and through construction
site.
All anodes with cracks, inclusions or other defects should not be used.
All anodes with damaged insulation or wire, abrasion damage, splices, and/or any form of wire repair
should not be used.
Repaired impressed current anode cable leads, anodes, or anodes with repaired anode-to-cable
connections should not be used.
Touch inspection of the anode cable insulation immediately adjacent to the head of the anode.
Anodes that are found to have noticeable “necking” or an obvious reduction in diameter of the
insulation near the head of the anode should not be installed.
Ensure that survey and excavation is as per the relevant construction drawing.
Check that excavation is to the proper depth for installation of anodes and as per relevant Aramco
Standards and IFC drawings.
Visually and physically check all anodes to verify that there are no defects/damage.
The pre-packaged anode shall be soaked in clean water for a minimum period of 24 hours prior to
installation.
Ensure that, for specific situations such as road crossings, intersection with existing pipelines, and
existing anode beds; installation of anode junction boxes, bonding stations, marker posts, etc; the
methods and procedures to be followed shall be the one set forth in the specifications, standards,
and Client drawings.
As soon as the anodes are laid out, they shall be thoroughly soaked with water prior to, during, and
after backfilling.
The trench shall be back-filled using selected backfill material (no stones or sharp objects). The fill
must be tamped solidly for maximum contact between anode and earth. This eliminates the
possibility of voids, which prevent attainment of expected resistance values and reduce the anode
life expectancy. Care must be taken to avoid damaging or snaring the cable lead.
The anode cable shall be routed to the splice location, test station, junction box or directly to the
structure as required by the design.
Record the inspection and/or test results on Checklists indicated by the relevant SATIP / SAIC /
SATR.
Check all cables to verify that there is no defects/damage and Holiday test anode cables, voltage as
per relevant Aramco requirements.
Check that each cable is tagged with its assigned code and terminated as shown on cable schedule
and as per applicable Aramco Standard Drawing.
The CAD weld location shall be decided based on the test station location.
An area of approximately 75mm x 75mm of coating shall be removed at the connection position.
All oil and grease should be removed and the area a braided with a wire brush and file.
The cable insulation shall be stripped from the end of the cable and the conductors twisted so that
they fit into the thermite welding mold.
The metallic disc should be inserted into the bottom of the thermite weld mold chamber and the
thermite weld charge poured in. The metallic powder will form a layer at the bottom with the
starter powder on top. The cable entry into the mold should be sealed with duct seal or other
suitable sealants. With the thermite weld mold held firmly in place the charge should be ignited
with the starter gun.
Following removal of the mold and allowing a few minutes for cooling, the strength of the mold
shall be tested by tapping lightly with a 1 pound hammer and pulling firmly on the cable. All
failed welds should be repaired with approved repair materials and the weld re-attempted at least
75 mm from the original location.
All weld slag, spatter and sharp edges shall be removed with a metal file and wire brush.
Following the successful completion of the weld the coating shall be repaired using approved
coating materials.
Check abrasive blasting and painting of support structure of test and bonding stations to be as per
the Aramco Painting / Coating specification, Client requirements for above ground and for below
ground and QA/P143 Painting Procedure.

7.0 INSPECTION, TESTING AND RECORDS FOR TEST STATION, BONDING STATION AND
GALVANIC ANODES
All stations, bonding stations and galvanic anodes will be installed at all locations as specified in project
drawings and Scope of Work in accordance with specifications and standards.
The exact installation location of all CP components will be taken from the Plan & Profile drawings. In case of
any deviation from the Plan and Profile due to the site conditions, the Client representative will be notified
prior to making any field changes.
All system cables (negative/test connections to the structure and anode cables) shall be routed and collected
together at the appropriate test station (TS) location.
The test station (TS) shall be fixed in position as appropriate of a support frame is required, a concrete footing
shall be constructed including appropriate conduits to accommodate all cables.
All cables shall be pulled into the test station (TS) through the conduits provided.
After the anode has been totally installed on the first 6 months, a monthly soil potential survey test shall be
done on each and every temporary sacrificial anode that was installed .This is to check the integrity of the
installation and if whether or not the anode is functioning properly. After the monthly first six months of soil
potential survey test the next soil potential survey test will be after six months with reference to SAES-X-400
para 6.7.5 .
