Term Meaning
SPECIFICATION(S) Means the Technical Documentation and Specifications of the WORKS apart from
DRAWINGS, included in the CONTRACT and any additions and modifications thereof
or addition thereto in accordance with the CONTRACT.
TEST(S) Measured verifications of one or more characteristics or of performance, both being
carried out to ascertain whether or not the specified requirements have been met. Means
the tests specified in the CONTRACT or otherwise requested by CONTRACTOR /
CONTRACTOR PROJECT MANAGER which are to be executed by CONTRACTOR.
SUBCONTRACTOR Contractor in contractual relationship with CLIENT contractor
SUPERVISING Means the CLIENT appointed by CONTRACTOR to carry out Construction Supervision

TEMPORARY Means all temporary WORKS of every kind (other than CONTRACTOR EQUIPMENT)
WORKS designed, supplied and constructed by CONTRACTOR, required in or about the
execution and completion of the PERMANENT WORKS and the remedying of any
DEFECTS therein.
THIRD PARTY Means an independent Inspection Organization, appointed by CONTRACTOR, and if
INSPECTOR (TPI) required, APPROVED or appointed by CLIENT to monitor the WORKS (pipes,
construction, testing, etc) at SITE or in the supplier premises with the task of verify with
a relevant Certificate that the WORKS have been executed according to
CONTRACTOR’S SPECIFICATIONS under this CONTRACT., to carry out inspection
and certification tasks.
All permanent and temporary activities (including PLANT) to be executed in accordance
with the CONTRACT, as defined in the contractual Scope of Work and its associated

9.1 General
c. Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coated pipe will be handled in accordance with
SAES-H-200, Storage, Handling, & Installation of Externally Coated Pipe, and
API RP 5L9 External Fusion Bounded Epoxy Coating of line pipe.
11 d. All equipment, including field bending machines and pipe cradles, that contact
the coated surface of the pipe shall be padded. Slings shall be nylon or
equivalent; steel cables shall not be used.
f. For lifting operations, when a hook is used for handling large diameter pipes,

1 the hook shall be of sufficient width and depth to fit inside the pipe and shall
be padded or covered with rubber.

Pipes will be carefully inspected by Sicim QA/QC inspector before loading onto
the trucks and handled and transported to final destination.
9.3 Hauling
CONTRACTOR will haul of all pipes necessary for the completion of the WORK.
Cradles, padding or other strapping necessary to protect pipes during
transportation will be placed in such a manner that the possibility of shifting loads
or other potential motion will be prevented. Special care will be taken to confine
pipes when hauling cross-country on rough roads. In all cases pipe will be
supported to prevent deformation and will be properly padded in accordance with
SAES-H-200. Only fabricated rubber separation straps meeting the intent of
SAES-H-200 will be used. Haul trucks and trailers must have flaps and/or fenders
to protect the coating and pipe from wheel thrown rocks, gravel and sand.
9.3.1 Storage
CONTRACTOR have designated 03 locations for 12” pipes along the Row to
unload and storage the pipes. For 40” pipes contractor has located in laydown
area in Al-HOFUF. Areas are to be graded and protected to store the pipes.
CONTRACTOR will grade and level the Work Sites and furnish and install
temporary barricade with safety and security sign board. Contractor PLAN is to
string directly along the ROW, the pipes collected from Saudi Aramco designated
Coating facility, remaining pipes that will not be possible to string will be stored in
the above indicated temporary pipe yard.
Pipe will be adequately supported at all times to prevent deformation of pipe and
to protect the coating and beveled ends. The pipe will be stored at least 150 mm
off the ground on earthen berms covered with polyethylene sheeting. A minimum
of 2 shaped earthen berms will be utilized per each 12 meters pipe joint, and 4
berms per 24 meters pipe joints with one located 3.1 meters from each pipe end.
Stacks of FBE coated pipe will be secured by a minimum of three straps made of
a resilient material in accordance with SAES-H-200 and API RP 5L9. No chains,
trailer stakes or other metal objects will be used to come in contact with the pipe
coating. End protectors will remain on pipes while in storage.
a. Pipes will be properly protected, handled and stored to prevent loss or damage
and permit easy access for identification and inventory (See attachment A).

1 c. During storage, the coated pipes shall be placed at least 150 mm off the ground
1 on either rock-free sand berms covered with polyethylene sheeting or on
padded skids spaced and leveled so that the pipes are supported without
damaging the coating. All possible efforts shall be exerted to prevent direct
contact of the coated pipes with the ground or ground moisture.
1 d. FBE and Liquid Epoxy-Coated Pipes shall not be stacked directly against each

other at any time during storage or transportation. They shall be separated by
full encirclement, non-compressible rubber padding or equivalent at least 10
mm thickness.
1. Twelve-meter (12 m) joints of pipe shall have at least 3 full encirclement
separation pads. Two (2) shall be located 1 to 3 m from each end of the
pipe and 1 in the middle.
2. Twenty-four meter (24 m) double-jointed pipe lengths shall have at least 5
full encirclement separation pads placed so that 2 of them are 1 to 3 m
from the outer ends of the pipe and 3 of them support the center section
of the pipe. Placement of the pads should be approximately equidistant
from each other.
3. Additional separation pads shall be used if required to keep the coated
pipes from touching each other.
4. The separation pads shall be attached by any mechanical means that
ensures these will stay in place.
5. The FBE and liquid epoxy coated pipes shall be protected from direct
sunlight if to be stored in vendor's yard, in the field or project site for more
than twelve (12) months in order to prevent UV degradation. This shall be
done by covering the stacked coated pipes with tarpaulins or similar
protection. The tarpaulins shall be maintained in good condition for as long
as the pipes are exposed to direct sunlight. If coated pipes are stored
outdoors without appropriate cover or protection for a year or more, the
coated pipes shall be requalified.

9.3.2 Handling
b. Pipes will not be rolled or dragged on the ground. Where end hooks are used
to handle the pipe, they will be fabricated to fit the pipe and will be brass or
aluminum-lined to prevent damage to beveled ends. End hooks with matched
chokers will be used and tailing ropes will be provided. Forks or lifts will be
padded. Slings made of nylon or similar pipes will be used. Slings to be utilized
in handling the pipe will be constructed in such a manner as to prevent damage
to the pipe or pipe coating in accordance with the requirements of SAES-H-
200.
CONTRACTOR will examine all pipe and coating prior to loading and separate all
damaged pipe found. Damaged pipes will be put to one side or hauled to a
separate area. Such pipe will not be transported to site. All repair of such damages
found during inspection will be performed by Coating SA Contractor using
procedures approved by Company Representative. CONTRACTOR will only bear
the cost of repairing all damaged joints of pipe and coating after CONTRACTOR
has accepted custody of pipe at coating yards.

CONTRACTOR will keep all pipe in material storage yards and all public roads
clear of debris at all times. CONTRACTOR will clean debris deposited on public
roads by the hauling of pipe operation and any cleanup required to reduce hazards
and exposures to the public.
Pipe yards will be barricaded and secured with 24-hour survey vigilant.

12.4.1 Verify all the necessary work permits are obtained prior to the commencement of any work.
12.4.2 Check personnel and confirm compliance to safety requirements and check work areas for any
unsafe conditions.
12.4.3 Ensure all incidents and near misses are captured/recorded and reported.
