ABSTRACT

This qualitative study aims to explore the attitudes and practices of Grade 10

students in San Pablo National High School towards environmentally proper waste

disposal.

To answer the main problems, the following sub-problems are hereby raised:

1. How do the personal values, beliefs, and norms of grade 10 students influence

their attitudes towards proper waste disposal?

2. How do the environmental beliefs of grade 10 students contribute to the

development of environmental norms regarding proper waste disposal?

3. How can interventions and educational programs be designed to enhance

grade 10 students’ attitude and practices towards proper waste disposal?

This study explores the attitudes, practices, and behavior of grade 10 students

at San Pablo National High School towards environmental proper waste disposal.

The study will be guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior, which suggests that an

individual’s behavior is influenced by their attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived

behavioral control. The study will use semi-structed interviews to sample size of 10

participants. The study’s findings can inform the development of educational that can

promote environmentally proper waste disposal practices among young people. This

study utilized qualitative research method particularly, case study design using

Merriam’s Approach. The result of the study showed that factors such as laziness,

carelessness, and lack of awareness influenced the decision of the students’ on not to
viii

dispose waste properly. This study also identified that students who have a highly

value environmental sustainability and conservation tended to have more positive

attitudes towards waste disposal practices. These students expressed a sense of

responsibility towards protecting the environment and recognized the impact of waste

mismanagement on ecosystems and human health. The result of the study also shows

how environmental education training plays a significant role in shaping the students’

attitudes. The study determined the attitudes of the Grade 10 students with regards to

proper waste disposal. Moreover, students believed that joining educational cleaning

training can contribute to a positive attitude. The suggested recommendations of this

study will benefit the teachers, the school, and other studies, and future researchers.
