This connector allows users to transfer data between SAP Solution Manager and SAP Signavio Process
Manager.
The connector is built on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) as a stand-alone cloud application. It
leverages many services of the platform to enable connectivity of multiple SAP Signavio Process Manager and
SAP Solution Manager systems, and ensures consistency and transparency of synchronization.
Prerequisites
For initial synchronization, you emptied either your SAP Solution Manager process step library folder or your
SAP Signavio dictionary category (activity), depending on the target system for sychonization.
For SAP Signavio Process Manager to SAP Solution Manager sychronization, the following conditions must be
met:
• Source root folder must contain all processes required to be synchronized. Source root folder could be
Shared Folders or its level-1 sub-folder.
• All tasks used in process models, that need to be synchronized, must exist in the dictionary of SAP
Signavio Process Manager as activities.
• SAP Solution Manager folder called Business Process must only contain level-1 sub-folders or be empty.
Either Business Process folder or its level-1 sub-folder could be selected as a root folder, where imported
objects will be stored.
• SAP Solution Manager process step library folder must be empty.
For SAP Solution Manager to SAP Signavio Process Manager sychronization, the following conditions must be
met:
• Source root folder must contain all processes required to be synchronized. Source root folder could be
Business Process or one of its level-1 sub-folders.
• SAP Signavio Process Manager folder Shared Documents must be empty or contain at least one level-1
empty sub-folder that can be used as a target root folder, where process structure of SAP Solution
Manager will be imported to.
• Target SAP Signavio dictionary category (activity) must be empty.
Caution
Connect your SAP Signavio Process Manager workspace to the business process model connector for SAP
Signavio solutions (the new connector) only.
This prevents any data duplication and inconsistent data transfer due to a persisting connection with a
second connector (the classic connector).
For more information or additional assistance, create a support ticket, using component BPI-SIG-PM-
SOL.
Activities
Upon completion of initial synchronization, SAP Signavio Process Manager is the leading system for managing
changes to these objects and their mapped attribute values. The objects listed above can only be updated
in SAP Signavio Process Manager. Updates can then be transferred to SAP Solution Manager by using the
connector to synchronize the changed objects.
Note
Before initial synchronization, one of the two systems – either SAP Solution Manager or SAP Signavio
Process Manager – must be blank. Follow the instructions in the Prerequisites section. If you already use an
existing connector or have content in both systems, contact the SAP Service team.
Browser Compatibility
SAP Signavio supports all popular browsers. For a detailed description of the supported browsers, see Browser
Compatibility.
After you've created your SAP Signavio Process Transformation Suite account (see Signing Up), use your
account email and password to log in.
In the case that your workspace administrator has created the account for you, you received an email to reset
your password. When SSO is enabled for your workspace, you log in using a shared link.
When SSO is enabled for your workspace, you log in through a shared link. The link is shared with you, for
example, in an invitation email or on a wiki page.

Scope of Objects
Synchronized object types are mapped as follows between SAP Signavio Process Manager and SAP Solution
Manager:
Folder Folder
Folder Scenario
The connector maps and synchronizes the IDs of the above-mentioned objects and not the objects' names. If
objects have the same names but different IDs, the objects are synchronized.
Learn more about sychonization requirements for folder and scenarios, which vary depending on the direction
of synchonization.
The default SAP Signavio top root folder called Shared Documents can be mapped to SAP Solution Manager
root folder called Business Processes. Any level 1 folder can be used as a top root folder in the source and
target systems. This enables selection of the specific content from the default top root folder to be included in
synchronization from the source system. It also allows you to define a custom top root folder that will be used
to receive the content in the target system.
All sub-folders from SAP Signavio's top root folder will be included and created under the top root folder of SAP
Solution Manager, such as directly under Business Processes or a custom level 1 folder.
If SAP Signavio top root folder contains any object other than a folder, the object is ignored during the
synchronization run. A warning message for each ignored object is added to the synchronization log. The
warning message also advises to move the object to the required lower level folder and execute another
synchronization run.
All sub-folders from SAP Solution Manager's top root folder will be included and created under the top root
folder of SAP Signavio, such as directly under Shared Documents or a custom level 1 folder. If SAP Solution
Manager's scope is used the during synchronization run, then the process content of the selected scope will be
imported to SAP Signavio, as a hierarchy of sub-folders under the specified top root folder.
In the source system, the selected top root folder may only contain other folders in SAP Signavio or folders and
scenarios in SAP Solution Manager. The top folder of SAP Signavio may not contain models, for example.
The selected top root folder must be empty in the target system.
The top root folder must not be changed or renamed in SAP Signavio or SAP Solution Manager if it is used at
least in one synchronization run.
Depending on synchronization directions, the following functionality and actions are supported.
Folders can contain a hierarchy of other folders representing the process structure. The folders that contain
BPMN Diagram 2.0 objects will be synchronized to SAP Solution Manager as scenarios.
All folders that are not empty under the top root folder can be synchronized to SAP Solution Manager.
SAP Solution Manager structure can contain a hierarchy of folders and fcenarios. All folders and scenarios
under the top root folder can be synchronized to SAP Signavio.
Empty folders are synchronized to SAP Signavio also as folder object type. Those folders in SAP Signavio must
be used to add other sub-folders and stay aligned with SAP Solution Manager folders. If a BPMN Diagram 2.0
object type is added to the empty folder, the model will be ignored in synchronization, because the empty
folder is not mapped to the scenario object type.
After initial synchronization, folders and scenarios synchronized to SAP Signavio at least once, must not be
changed in SAP Solution Manager. The objects must be changed only in SAP Signavio, which is the leading tool
for managing process structure (hierarchy) changes. The objects are synchronized via the follow-up update
synchronization run to SAP Solution Manager. Only associated elements and attributes (such as assigned
documents, executables, and attributes that are not in scope of synchronization) can be still changed in SAP
Solution Manager.
Note
Error message can be displayed when running sync: "Sync errored for ObjectType: FOLDER with error: Map
internal to external failed for direction: SPM2SOLUTION MANAGER with error: Error: Solution Manager
FolderObject: [Object ID] cannot be converted to 'SCN - Scenario' with name and ID".
Empty scenarios are synchronized to SAP Signavio as folder object type. BPMN Diagram 2.0 object types only
must be added to this folder that is mapped in SAP Solution Manager as a scenario. All other objects will be
ignored in synchronization.
An error message will be displayed: Sync errored for ObjectType: FOLDER with error: OBJ_TYPE DOES NOT
MATCH FOR:4j97UdxW7ksoYNivBJrC{0. with name and ID.
Adjust SAP Signavio process folder or scenario object and repeat synchronization.
Note
Folder and scenario objects that were synchronized at least once, must not be deleted in SAP Signavio or
SAP Solution Manager. If the object is no longer required, consider creating a new folder called Archived
Folders /Scenarios and move the object into this folder. The object name might need to be changed with
the prefix Deleted if required.
Synchronization of Processes
SAP Solution Manager object type Process, assigned to Scenario in the process structure in scope is included
in synchronization. If the process contains process steps, all the steps in scope will also be synchronized. If the
process is empty, then only the process name will be synchronized. Processes’ attributes will be synchronized
if they are mapped in a synchronization project and attribute types are supported by the connector.
SAP Signavio object type BPMN Diagram 2.0 that belongs to the process structure in scope is included in
synchronization.
Note
If the folder in scope of synchronization contains other model types that are not BPMN Diagram 2.0 types,
these models will be ignored in synchronization.
If the BPMN Diagram 2.0 is empty, then only the BPMN Diagram 2.0 name will be synchronized.
BPMN Diagram 2.0 attributes will be synchronized if they are mapped in synchronization project and attribute
types are supported by the connector.
SAP Signavio BPMN Diagram 2.0 are mapped and synchronized to the process object type of SAP Solution
Manager.
Note
Imported BPMN Diagram 2.0 objects that were created in SAP Signavio from collaboration or process
diagram object of SAP Solution Manager are not synchronized back to SAP Solution Manager. The update
to SAP Solution Manager process is sent via BPMN Diagram 2.0 (process) mapped to SAP Solution
Manager process.
BPMN Diagram 2.0 object type in SAP Signavio is mapped and synchronized to process object type in SAP
Solution Manager.
Initial import will create new processes in SAP Solution Manager under the right scenarios.
After initial synchronization, BPMN Diagram 2.0 object could be changed: renamed, copied, moved to a
different Folder (scenario) in SAP Signavio.
Follow-up update synchronization will reflect the changes in SAP Solution Manager.
BPMN Diagram 2.0 should be moved to a folder that is a scenario, rather than a folder that was previously
synchronized with SAP Solution Manager folder object type.
Process object type in SAP Solution Manager is mapped and synchronized to BPMN Diagram 2.0 object type in
SAP Signavio.
After initial synchronization, processes synchronized to SAP Signavio at least once, must not be changed in
SAP Solution Manager. The process must be changed in SAP Signavio, which is the leading tool for managing
process changes, and synchronized via the follow up update synchronization run to SAP Solution Manager.
Only associated elements of process (such as assigned documents, executables, and attributes that are not in
scope of synchronization) can be still changed in SAP Solution Manager.
Note
BPMN Diagram 2.0 objects that were synchronized to SAP Solution Manager at least once, must not be
deleted in SAP Signavio. If BPMN Diagram 2.0 object is no longer required, consider creating a new folder
(scenario) called Archived Models and move the BPMN Diagram 2.0 object into this folder.
If BPMN Diagram 2.0 objects are deleted, synchronization will be inconsistent and the process object in
SAP Solution Manager won’t change.
Learn about the conditions affecting diagams imported from SAP Solution Manager.
Both SAP Signavio and SAP Solution Manager use BPMN 2.0 Diagrams for process modelling. The diagrams
contain Tasks or Process Steps that are logically connected as a process flow using other objects of BPMN 2.0
conventions.
In SAP Solution Manager, the same process definition can be represented as several, equally-valid visual
process diagrams.
In SAP Signavio Process Manager, there is no separation between processes and process diagrams. If in SAP
Solution Manager there are multiple diagrams of the same process, these diagrams are imported as separate
process diagrams.
• Process Diagram
• Collaboration Diagram
Both diagrams will be imported to the same object type in SAP Signavio known as Business Process Model
Diagram BPMN 2.0.
All tasks imported with the diagram are also created as dictionary objects of type activity. Tasks share a Task
ID and activity (dictionary) object from the import of an SAP Solution Manager process step.
Check synchronization parameters for process steps originating from SAP Solution Manager and process step
equivalents originating from SAP Signavio.
If the process structure for SAP Solution Manager has a process step (reference) assigned to it as a process
object, then that process step (reference) is included in synchronization.
• An SAP Solution Manager process step (reference) object type is mapped to and synchronizes with an SAP
Signavio task object type. A process step (reference) becomes a task.
• When a process step (reference) is imported to SAP Signavio, its new SAP Signavio task ID is the same
process step (reference)ID from SAP Solution Manager.
• After initial synchronization, the task can be renamed, copied, or moved to a different BPMN Diagram 2.0.
If the dictionary (activity) for SAP Signavio has a BPMN Diagram 2.0 task mapped to it, that task is included as
a process step equivalent in synchronization.
• An SAP Signavio task object type is mapped to and synchronizes with an SAP Solution Manager process
step (reference) object type. A task becomes a process step (reference).
• When a task is imported to SAP Solution Manager, its new process step (reference) ID is the same task ID
from SAP Signavio.
• After initial synchronization, the process step (reference) can be renamed, copied, or moved to a different
SAP Solution Manager process.
Note
To avoid receiving warning notifications, map all tasks to the dictionary (activity) before sychonization
starts. A synchronization run excludes unmapped tasks.
To import excluded tasks after the initial synchronization, map the tasks to the dictionary (activity) and run
an update synchronization.
Attributes of SAP Solution Manager process steps (reference) and SAP Signavio tasks are included in
synchronization under the following conditions:
Related Information
Learn about the conditions for sychronizing SAP Signavio dictionary objects and SAP Solution Manager library
objects.
The following object types from SAP Signavio dictionary and SAP Solution Manager library are included in
synchronization:
Attributes of process step (original) and activity (dictionary) objects are included in synchronization under the
following conditions:
Note
• SAP Signavio activity (dictionary) objects that were included in at least one synchronization to SAP
Solution Manager must not be deleted.
• SAP Solution Manager process step (original) objects that were included in at least one synchronization
to SAP Signavio must not be deleted.
An SAP Signavio activity (dictionary) is mapped to and synchronizes with a process step (original) in SAP
Solution Manager's process step library.
• Objects from SAP Signavio dictionary's sub-categories are not included in synchonization to SAP Solution
Manager.
Note
As a best practice, include duplicates of dictionary (activity) objects in the initial synchonization. After the
synchronization run, merge dictionary (activity) objects to remove duplicates.
• Before the initial synchronization run, if you merge objects of dictionary (activity), these objects will
cause the synchronization to fail.
• After the initial synchronization run, if you merge objects of dictionary (activity) that were included
in the initial synchronization run, these objects will not cause errors with the next update
synchronization.
• After the initial synchronization run, if you merge objects of dictionary (activity) that were not included
in the initial synchronization run, these objects will cause the next update synchronization to fail.
If synchronization fails due to merged objects, contact your SAP support team for further advice.
An SAP Solution Manager process steps (original) object is mapped to and synchronizes with activity
(dictionary) in SAP Signavio.
• Process steps (original) located in either the library's main folder or a sub-folder are included in the
synchronization and mapped to SAP Signavio dictionary.
• Synchronization creates dictionary (activity) objects in the mapped dictionary category.
• In the synchronization project of the business process model connector for SAP Signavio solutions, you
can select the preferred category dictionary (activity) since it already exists in SAP Signavio. Alternatively,
specify a new custom category and thebusiness process model connector for SAP Signavio solutions
creates it automatically. We recommended that only workspace administrators get access to create and
manage the dictionary category.
Related Information
Learn how attributes can be configured and mapped between SAP Signavio and SAP Solution Manager in the
business process model connector for SAP Signavio solutions's synchronization project settings.
Attributes must be configured in both SAP Signavio and SAP Solution Manager systems before
synchronization is configured for the above object types. Attributes that are relevant for synchronization must
be configured in the source and target system using the same data element types. The name of the attribute
itself can be different.
Note
In the business process model connector for SAP Signavio solutions Configure --> Mapping attributes
phase, all attributes are available for selection. Pick attribute types that are supported by the business
process model connector for SAP Signavio solutions and are mapped to a compatible type in the target
system.
Any objects that were synchronized at least once in SAP Signavio or SAP Solution Manager must not be
deleted.
If any of synchronized objects are deleted, synchronization will be inconsistent and will run into an error.
In SAP Signavio, additional folders or models could be created called Archived Objects to manage manual
archiving of the objects that are no longer required.
In SAP Signavio, an additional prefix or term in the object name can be used to flag and identify the objects that
are no longer required.
In SAP Solution Manager, it will be reflected via the next follow up update synchronization and objects will be
changed and moved to the archived folders (scenarios or processes) accordingly. Process structure and its
objects should not be changed in SAP Solution Manager manually (outside of synchronization) because it can
lead to inconsistencies.
Learn how scope selection is relevant for synchronization from SAP Solution Manager to SAP Signavio only.
You can limit the imported content with Scopes. Scopes are defined in SAP Solution Manager. For more
information, see Scopes .
Note
Due to some limitations of the connector when importing large data volumes from SAP Solution Manager
to SAP Signavio, we highly recommend to use scope if your SAP Solution Manager branch content is too
large and exceeds 100 MB. The size of one selected scope should not exceed 100 MB.
If a scope for the import is not selected, the full branch content is used as the basis for all imports.
When you limit the imported content with a scope, your scope must include the folder that the export created.
All following exports update the content of that folder.
Multiple scopes can be imported from SAP Solution Manager to SAP Signavio to support gradual import of
large data.
If content is not included in the scope, this content will not be updated during later imports.
Learn how to establish connectivity to the source systems that need to be synchronized.
Both SAP Signavio Process Manager and SAP Solution Manager systems need to be connected directly to
the connector application. This enables the connector to use the systems' technical details for exchanging
process information between systems. The connector application supports multi-system connectivity, which
means that more than one SAP Signavio Process Manager workspace and SAP Solution Manager system can
be connected to the connector application at the same time.
The following sub-topics use step-by-step procedures to show how to set up connectivity to SAP Signavio
Process Manager and SAP Solution Manager systems in the Systems Configuration area.
Caution
Connect your SAP Signavio Process Manager workspace to the business process model connector for SAP
Signavio solutions (the new connector) only.
This prevents any data duplication and inconsistent data transfer due to a persisting connection with a
second connector (the classic connector).
Your workspace must be switched from the classic connector, if applicable. In both SAP Signavio Process
Manager and SAP Solution Manager, we strongly recommend deleting relevant data created by the classic
connector before switching to the new connector.

Map dictionary category (activity) from SAP Signavio Process Manager processes to SAP Solution Manager
objects.
Prerequisites
You completed the Define settings stage in the synchronization projects wizard.
In the Map Dictionary stage, the connector proposes object mappings by suggesting dictionary categories and
matching them with object types for all automatically-detected processes. You can review the results table and
accept or change the suggestions.
Procedure
1. From the Map Dictionary stage, check the proposed dictionary categories and objects for mapping.
2. If you need to change the dictionary category, type the new category name in the Proposed dictionary
category field.
• If the name already exists in SAP Signavio Process Manager dictionary, choose the name from the
dropdown list's suggested entries.
• If the name does not exist in SAP Signavio Process Manager dictionary, select Enter instead of
choosing one of the suggested entries.
The connector saves the new entry. During synchronization, the connector creates the required dictionary
category (activity) in SAP Signavio.
3. When mapping for the entire results table is complete, confirm with Include.
Results
Note
After the Map Attributes stage and after you run synchronization, you can find the same objects in both
your SAP Signavio Process Manager dictionary and SAP Solution Manager library if the following conditions
are met:
• The table's Proposed dictionary category and Dictionary category type columns represent objects from SAP
Signavio Process Manager.
• The table's Object type and Area columns define objects from SAP Solution Manager.
