I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of the concept of time, perimeter,
area, and volume.
B. Performance The learners are able to apply the concepts of time, perimeter, area, and
Standards volume to mathematical problems and real-life situations.
C. Learning The learners derive the formula for the volume of rectangular

4. Classroom Rules

Before we proceed to our proper

discussion. Can you give me our class
rules that need to be followed?

Listen to the teacher.

Follow instructions.
Raise your hand if you want to
answer or if you have question.

What else? Participate to our discussion.

Work hard, and do your best.

Another thing, those students that will

actively participate in our discussion will
get a reward.

Is that clear? Yes, ma’am.

Very good!

A. Review Drill
Previous Lessons
To start our discussion today, let’s have a
short drill. I have here a flashcard that
has a multiplication fact written on it.
What you are going to do is to answer
each number sentence as fast as you can.

Review
Before we proceed to our new topic, let us
have first a short review.

Are you ready? Yes, ma’am.

It is the amount of space a solid figure Volume

occupies.

Any items or objects that can be used to Non- Standard units

measure something like volume.

What are some examples of non-standard Balls, marbles, and fruits.

units?

Very good!

B. Establishing Before we proceed further, let us all know

purpose for first the words that you may encounter
the Lesson along with our discussion that is not
familiar to you.

Unlocking Difficulties

Directions: Find the correct word in the

word search puzzle based on its given
definition.

It is a solid geometric figure whose two

end faces are similar, equal, and parallel. Prism

It is the measures of the size of an object

such as a box. Dimensions

It determines how long an object is.

Length
It determines how wide an object is.
Width
It determines how high or tall an object is.
Height
Motivation

(Show a gift box)

What is this?
A gift box.
Very good!

Do you also receive a gift?

Yes, ma’am.
On what occasion did you receive a gift?
(Pupils will answer)
What do you think is the importance of
giving gift? Through giving gift we can
express our love to that person
Very good! and we can make them feel
special.
Giving gifts is a powerful way to make
someone feel special because it's not just
about the item itself, it's about the
thought, care, and emotions that
accompany it. Whether big or small, gifts
show love, appreciation, and connection,
making both the giver and receiver happy.

Especially if the gift you receive came

from your loved ones like your parents, I
remember that last January my mother
gave me a gift and it made me so happy
because I know that it shows love.

This time, class, do you want to know

what my mother gave me?
Yes, ma’am.
(Teacher will show what is inside the gift
box)
Oh, wow! Do you know what this is? Jewelry box

Very good!

What is jewelry box for? To ensure that the jewelry will

not be damaged.
Very good!
C. Presenting What is the shape of this jewelry box? Rectangular shape
example/instances
of the new lessons A jewelry box is an example of a
rectangular prism.

Rectangular prism is a solid figure that

has 6 faces, 12 edges, and 8 vertices.

Can you guess how many jewelries we can It depends upon the size of the
put in this box? jewelries. The bigger the
jewelries, few jewelries are
needed to fill the box.
Very good!

If the objects are big, few objects are

needed and if the objects are small, more
objects are needed to fill the box. That is
what we call the volume, the amount of
space a solid figure occupies.

(Teacher will show small cubes)

What is this class? Small cube, ma’am.

Very good!

If we are going to put these cubes inside

the jewelry box, how many small cubes do
you think we will be needed? (Pupils will answer)

How we will know the number of small

cubes needed to fill this box? Fill the box with small cubes.
By counting the number of
cubes used.
Very good!

(The teacher fills the container with a

small cube until its upper portion)

How many cubes did I put inside the

container? (Pupil will answer)

Let us count.

We need to count the number in one layer

then multiply into another horizontal
layer.

If there are 12 small cubes in first layer

and there are 2 layers, how many small
cubes are there in all?
24 small cubes ma’am.
The total number of small cubes that the
jewelry has is the volume of the box.

Again, what is volume?

A volume is the amount of space
occupied by an object.
D. Discussing new Rectangular prism has 3 dimensions:
concepts and length, width, and height.
practicing new
skills #1.

Aside from counting the small cubes

inside the rectangular prism, there’s
another way to get the volume of
rectangular prism. That is through
computation using the given formula.
Its volume is measured in cubic units
such as: cubic centimeters (cm3) or cubic
meters (m3).

Here is a problem.

In the EPP class of Grade- IV

Mangga, they planning to make
a recycled rectangular-shaped
sewing box made of cardboard.
The length of the box will be 22
cm, the width is 16 cm, and the
height is 8 cm. Ana wants to
know the amount of space
inside the box.

What is the shape of the sewing box? Rectangular shape.

What it is made of? Cardboard.

What is the length? 22 cm

What is the width? 16 cm

What is the height? 8 cm

What does Ana need to know? The amount space of the box.

Very good!

Why do you think Ana needs to know the (Pupils will answer)
exact amount of space of the box?

There are ways to find the amount of

space inside a container or the volume of
a solid figures.

By counting the small cubes, it occupies.

By using a formula.
E. Discussing new Since we have a formula, we can now
concepts & solve the word problem.
practicing and Now, let’s solve the volume using the
concern to new formula.
skills #2
(Teacher will show the computation)

V= 22 cm x 16 cm x 8 cm
V= 2816 cm³
The volume of the box is 2816 cm³.

Another example,

I have here another rectangular prism.

I have also here a ruler because this time I

am going to show you how to measure
this object.

(Teacher will measure the pencil case)

The length is 19 cm, width 4 cm, and the

height are 2 cm.

This time to find the volume of this pencil (Pupils will raise their hand)

volume of the different prism/ object? For us to know the exact amount
of things or materials that we
