A.Motivation
Are you excited to learn a new topic this
morning? Yes ,Ma’am .

Before we proceed to our next discussion

lets first have a recap. What was our lesson
yesterday? The cell cycle .

Very good. We are already done discussing

the Cell cycle. Today we will proceed to the next
topic. Let’s try to explore how cells present in
our body divides and multiply.
B.Presentation
Do you believe that we are made up of cells?
Yes , Ma’am.
Have you had a really big cut on your skin?
Yes , Ma’am .
What happens to your wound after a few days?
It heals until it is no longer present .

What do you think happened? Why do our

wounds heal? (Students will share their ideas.)

Okay, how about when you cut your nails and

hair? Why do you think that after several days
you notice that it’s a lot longer from the last time
you cut it?
It’s because our cells divide to produce
new cells.

Yes, that’s right! What do you think will happen

if all of our cells stops to divide?
We will not grow, develop and repair
damage tissues.
Very good your idea is right! What do we call
this process that makes growth, development and
repair of tissues possible?
It is called Mitosis.
Right! It is termed as Mitosis. Who can define
mitosis?
Mitosis is a part of the cell cycle when
replicated chromosomes are separated
into two new nuclei.
C.Lesson Proper
Very good! Today we are going to investigate the
process by which cells make exact copies of
themselves. Bone cells repair bone cells, hair
cells cause your hair to grow, and new fingernails
grow to replace broken ones. Practically every
cell in your body is capable of making a copy of
itself through the process of mitosis.

To open ideas about our topic today I have here

a video presentation , and I want you to listen and
take note all important definitions for our activity
later .

If you can recall the previous topic we discussed

about the cell cycle. What is longer interphase or
M phase?
Interphase is longer.
What happens in interphase?
Cells grow.
What happens in mitosis?
Cells divide.
In order to develop and regenerate new cells
mitosis occurs. Biologist divided the events of
mitosis into four phases. What are these phases?
Prophase, metaphase, anaphase
Now , if you really listen carefully on the video and telophase.
presented a while ago , lets have an activity
entitled ACTIVITY :MY RIGHT MATCH .
Direction :Match the pictures to each stage of
Mitosis.

A B C D

Which of the drawings A-E shows?

____1.(chromosomes become visible and spindle
fiber forms).
____2. (Chromosomes align at the equator).
____3.(Sister chromatids separate).
____4.(new nucleus forms at each end).

Give yourselves five claps for accomplishing the given

activity .

Now based on the video ,Who can explain the

things that happen in prophase? In prophase chromosomes condense and
become visible.Chromosomes appear as
two sister chromatids held together at the
centromere. Cytoskeleton is
disassembled; spindle begins to form.
Golgi and ER are dispersed and nuclear
envelope breaks down.

After prophase, what

follows? Followed by metaphase .

What happens during metaphase ? Each spindle fiber from both centrosomes
connects to each chromosome through its
kinetochore.

After the chromosomes are aligned at the center.

What happens in the anaphase? Spindle fibers begin to contract and
become shorter. Continued contraction
causes the separation of the genetically
identical sister chromatids.

Right! What do you think happens in the spindle

fiber during anaphase? The spindle shortens.
Yes, that’s why sister chromatids are pulled on
the opposite poles.

After the chromosomes moved in each

pole. What is the next phase? During telophase, the chromosomes reach
the opposite poles of the cell, and the
nuclear envelope begins to reform around
each set of chromosomes.

Does cell division end there? Not yet. The cell still needs to undergo
cytokinesis.

What is cytokines? In animal cells, cleavage furrow forms to

divide the cells.
In plant cells, cell plate forms to divide
the cells.

After the end of cytokinesis what type of cells are

produced? Diploid cells

Now , I will show you a hand technique to

remember the stages of mitosis .

(The teacher will use a hand technique that

illustrate how mitosis occurs. She will also ask
her students to follow what she is doing.)

D.Generalization
For me to test if you really learn something
today, lets have another activity that will also test
your creativity . ACTIVITY 2: CELLULAR
ACTIVITIES IN MITOSIS
Alright , give yourselves 5 claps for
accomplishing the given task .
E.Application
To sum up our discussion this morning why does POSSIBLE ANSWERS
mitosis play a significant role to our lives? -Mitosis is essential for the growth and
development of multicellular organisms.
It allows cells to divide and multiply,
leading to the formation of tissues,
organs, and organ systems.

-When tissues are damaged, such as in

the case of a cut or injury, mitosis allows
for the replacement of the damaged cells
with new, healthy cells.

-In some organisms, mitosis allows for

the production of genetically identical
daughter cells, ensuring that the offspring
are identical to the parent cell.
Very good class, it seems that you really
understand our lesson today .

Are you now ready for a brain squeezer quiz?

But before that , what part of the lesson you
didn’t understand ? None , Ma’am .

IV. EVALUATION
Identification
Direction : Read carefully and answer what is being asked .
1. The process by which a single cell divides into two identical daughter cells. This type of
division is essential for growth and repair in multicellular organisms, as well as for asexual
reproduction in some single-celled organisms.
2. Give the 4 stages of mitosis
3. In what stage does nuclear envelope breaks down, allowing the spindle fibers to attach to
the chromosomes.
4. In this stage, the sister chromatids of each replicated chromosome separate and are pulled
towards opposite poles of the cell by the spindle fibers.
5. During this stage , the chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell, called the
metaphase plate.
Multiple choice
