Before we proceed to our new lesson this
morning let’s have our background check about
our previous discussion. Does anyone from the
class can define asteroids, asteroids, and (Alia starts defining)
comets?
ENGAGE
Now, let’s proceed to our new lesson. This
morning we are going to discuss about the
mitosis cell-division cyle, but before that let’s
have first a diagnostic test. This will measure
your prior knowledge about the said lesson.

EXPLORE
Class, our lesson for today is about mitosis cell
division. I want you class to form a two groups,
every group will be given time to brainstorm of
words anything that you think is/are related to
mitosis cell division. After that you select one
representative from your group to write your
answers in the board and another one
representative to briefly share something why
you believed that those words can be associated
to mitosis cell division. (5 minutes)
Very good!
We frequently heard the phrase “go to the world
and multiply” meaning to have dominion over
other living things. Same as to the mitosis cell
division where it is the process by which a cell
replicates its chromosomes and then segregates
them, producing two identical nuclei in
preparation for cell division.
If we are going to apply the concept of
mathematics in terms of division, the cell divides (students are listening)
into two identical nuclei which we called it the
daughter cells. Sir?
Yes Aiza?
What is the primary function of mitosis?
Mitosis plays an important role in the life cycle of
most living things. It helps in cells regeneration,
asexual reproduction and growth.
Now, in what cells does mitosis occur?
Sir
Yes Lovely?
Mitosis Sir occurs in eukaryotic cells
Exactly!
When we say eukaryotic cells, it consists of both
cytoplasm and organelles, both are present.
Sir what are some significance of mitosis?
Well, mitosis is responsible for the growth and
development of an individual, it is also required
for asexual reproduction, vegetative propagation
in plants and is also responsible for the repair
and regeneration of the damaged tissues, it
maintains the constant number of chromosomes
in all body cells of an organisms. Those are only
some of the significance of mitosis.
Do you have any clarification class before we
proceed?
None so far Sir!
ELABORATE
This time class, we are going to explore the
stages of mitosis cell division.
There are five stages of mitosis. But, before we
proceed to that let me ask you first class. Is the
interphase the first stage of mitosis?
Yes Sir!
Okay, a common misconception is that
interphase is the first stage of mitosis, but since
mitosis is the division of nucleus, prophase is
actually the first stage.
So, what is interphase Sir?
In interphase, the cells gets itself ready for
mitosis or meiosis.
Prophase class is the first stage right? Now,
what do you think happens in this stage class?
Sir During this phase the complex of DNA and
proteins contained in the nucleus, known as
chromatin, condenses.
Very good!
In the prophase, the nuclear envelop
disintegrates. Now the microtubules are allowed
to extend from the centromere to the
chromosome. The microtubules attach to the
kinetochores which allow the cell to move the
chromosome around.
The next stage is metaphase. Is anyone who
can give an idea about this stage?
Sir, it is the process that separates duplicated
genetic material carried in the nucleus of a
parent cells.
At this stage, the microtubules start pulling the
chromosomes with equal force and the
chromosome ends up in the middle of the cell.
This region is known as the metaphase plate.
Thus, each cell gets an entire functioning
genome.
Next is the anaphase. Is anyone who wants to
share their idea?
Sir, chromosomes break at centromeres, and
sister chromatids move to opposite ends of the
cell.
The splitting of the sister chromatids marks the
onset of anaphase. These sister chromatids
become the chromosome of the daughter nuclei.
The chromosomes are then pulled towards the
pole by the fibres attached to the kinetochores of
each chromosome. The centromere of each
chromosome leads at the edge while the arms
trail behind it.
The last but not the least is the telophase. Who
among you here have an idea about this stage?
Sir, during this stage the chomosomes arrive at
the cell poles, the mitotic spindles
disassembles, and the vesicles that contain
fragements of the original nuclear membrane
assemble around the two sets of
chromosomes.
The chromosomes that cluster at the two poles
start coalescing into an undifferentiated mass,
as the nuclear envelope starts forming around it.
The nucleolus, Golgi bodies and ER complex,
which had disappeared after prophase start to
reappear.
How about the cytokenises class?
Sir it is the physical process that finally splits
the parent cell into two identical daughter cells.
Cytokinesis is the physical process that
finally splits the parent cell into two identical
daughter cells.
That’s all class, any questions? Clarifications?
And violent reaction?
None so far Sir!
EVALUATE
Direction: Answer the questions in 5-10
sentences.
1. Based on your understanding
explain mitosis cell-division.
2. Based on the discussion give the
significance of mitosis.
3. Draw the five (5) stages of mitosis
and give a brief and concise
description each of them. Make it
in a bullet form.
ASSIGNEMENT
Direction: For your ansignment class you
research in advance about the meiosis cell
division. Write it in a ½ crosswise sheet of paper
to be submitted on next Saturday April 20 2023.
