A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 7

I – OBJECTIVES
At the end of 60 minutes lesson, students are expected to:
a.) State the four types of sentences;
b.) Familiarize the punctuations used in each type of sentences;
c.) Construct Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative and Exclamatory sentences; and
d.) Show appreciation to the topic by doing the given activity.

B.) Motivation

Alright, today I will divide the class into five


groups; each group will be given pieces of paper
with words written on it. Each group will be asked
to arranged the words in order to make a Yes, sir!

Group 1: WHAT A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY!
Group 2: YOU SHOULD STUDY HARD.
Group 3: WHEN WILL YOU GO TO LONDON?
Group 4: HE IS A GREAT STUDENT.
Group 5: PHILIPPINES IS RICH IN NATURAL
RESOURCES.

C.) Lesson Proper

Now, let me introduce to you The Four Types of


Sentences according to its use which are the
Declarative, Interrogative, Exclamatory, and
Imperative. Would someone read this for me?
A Declarative sentence states a fact or opinion
and it ends with a period.
Thank you, my dear student! By saying so, let us
take a look at the sentence that group 5 and 4
come up with. These two are declarative
sentences. Can you tell me the reason why it is
classified as declarative sentences?
Sir, according to its definition, declarative
sentence states a fact or opinion. Also, it ends
with a period. The sentences that group 5nad 4
come up with are classified as declarative
sentences because it has the classification of the
declarative sentence.
Very well said! Can somebody please give me an
example of a declarative sentence?
The President of the Philippines is assertive and
bold.
Nice answer! Now let us talk about the second
type of sentence which is the interrogative
sentence. Can somebody please read the
definition written in the board?
An Interrogative sentence asks a question and it
ends with a question mark.
Thank you, my dear students! Can you give me
an example as well?
Is the ice cream delicious?
Very good! It is easy to understand, right?
Yes, sir!
Remember that an interrogative sentence ends
with a question mark. The sentence that group 3
come up with is an example of it! Understand?
Yes, sir!
Wonderful! Let us proceed to the next type of
sentence which is the imperative sentence.
Please read the definition.
An Imperative sentence expresses a request or
gives a command or direction. It also ends with a
period or exclamation mark.
Thanks! Now, let us check the sentence that
group 2 come up with. It ends with a period but
that does not necessarily mean it is a declarative
sentence, right? Can somebody please explain
why? Sir, imperative sentence expresses a request or
gives a command or direction. The sentence that
group 2 come up with is imperative sentence
because it is clear that somebody expresses a
request to someone.

Correct! Now, I want you class to give me an


example of an Imperative sentence that gives an
order. Anyone?
Possible answers:
 Please grant me a loan.
 Kindly bring the book to me
 Give me a pen and a pencil.
Well done! What about an imperative sentence
that expresses a request?
Possible answers:
 Leave the package at the door.
 Take me to the library.
 Put that thing down now!
Very good! Now, let us define the remaining type
of sentences which is the exclamatory sentence.
Please read the definition.
An exclamatory sentence conveys an emotion
and end with an exclamation mark.
Thank you! The work of group1 is the example of
it. I know you will find it very to easy to understand
its function. Can somebody please give me an

Now that you already know the four types of


sentences. I want to divide the class into four
groups. This time I will be distributing different
images for each group and I want you to
construct different types of sentences according

 Amazing, Liza S. is really beautiful lady.
 Give me her phone number.
GROUP 3 GROUP 3:
 A bee settling on a flower.
 The bee on the flower is beautiful!
 What does that bee do on the flower?
 Kindly catch that bee on the flower.

GROUP 4 GROUP 4:
 The deer is in the wild.
 Is that a deer in the wild?
 Oh, my God! There is a deer in the wild.
 Take a phot of that deer.

E.) Generalization

Now, class let us remember that there are four


types of sentences. What are those?
Declarative, Interrogative, Exclamatory, and
Imperative sentences.
What we should need to remember about those?
We should always remember that the four types
of sentences have its right function to use when
constructing a sentence.
