A shift in the market has led many operators to use
higher alloy tubulars such as 13 and 22-chrome. One
system drawback is that the surface roughness of
bare chrome tubulars (50 µ) is greater than that of
bare carbon steel (35 µ). The use of Tuboscope inter-
nal plastic coating has been able to reduce the surface
roughness to a nominal value of 4 µ. This reduction in
surface roughness has translated into as much as a
25% increase in daily production and has allowed
operators to pay for their coating application in a mat-
ter of days.

was the first drill pipe coating and is still the industry
standard. When our customers’ were asked how we
could improve this coating, increased abrasion resis-
tance was the common request. A comprehensive
research and development program was undertaken to
increase the abrasion resistance of TK-34 and while
retaining its other properties that differentiate it from
anything else on the market. That development yielded

TK-Liner – Technology at its Best

Tuboscope’s TK-Liner system utilizes a fiberglass rein-
forced expoxy tube to protect against corrosion and
mechanical damage. Unlike other systems the TK-Liner
installation process uses a two-part epoxy that is
extruded over the fiberglass tube as it is inserted into
the tubing or line pipe. The two-part epoxy backing
offers improved adhesion to the pipe surface as well as
offering a secondary mode of protection in the event
there is damage to the fiberglass tube. Additionally, the
flange that is used to cap the ends of the pipe fits
between the fiberglass tube and the pipe wall therefore
not protruding into the tubing ID.

Brandt LCM-2D™ and LCM-3D™ Shakers

Brandt LCM-2D™ and LCM-3D™ Shakers

The LCM-2D™ Cascade and LCM-3D™ Cascade screen

shakers combine a CM-2 scalping shaker (top basket)
with the fine screening ability of the LCM-2D or
LCM-3D shaker (bottom basket) for maximum solids
removal efficiency.
The circular motion CM-2 has a 0° deck angle and 22.5
ft2 (2.1 m2) of screen area making it superior to other
designs for separation of large and sticky solids. The
linear motion LCM-2D and 3D bottom basket angle is
adjustable.
The Contour Plus™ LCM-2D screen deck uses three
LCM-2D
Red Diamond™ Ultra-Flow LCM-2D™ hookstrip style
screens, while the LCM-3D uses four Red Diamond™
Ultra-Flow Cobra™ or BHX™ rigid frame pretensioned
screens. With both designs, the feed end screen is set
at 0°; the other screens are inclined at +5°. This
design reduces the depth of the liquid pool to improve
solids conveyance and reduce re-grinding of solids
while maintaining good flow properties.
Fluid loss is minimized and cuttings dryness is
enhanced with Brandt’s patented drying deck and our
new flow direction tray. The drying deck also saves LCM-3D
space by reducing the overall footprint.
LCM-2D and LCM-3D shakers use a reliable, low-main-
tenance drive system for years of dependable, trouble-
free operation.

Brandt Hydrocyclones
Brandt Hydrocyclones

All Brandt 12-inch (533 mm) and 4-inch (102 mm)

hydrocyclones (commonly known as desanders and
desilters) effectively remove drilled solids that shaker
screens may not. They are made from a durable poly-
meric material developed exclusively for Brandt. These
hydrocyclones offer high-temperature tolerance,
greater resistance to erosion, and low-cost replace-
ment. They also have preferred flange connections for
tight, leakproof assembly.
Involute feed entry-rather than conventional tangential
entry-is another advantage of Brandt hydrocyclones.
This design separates the solids more efficiently, saves
valuable fluid, and reduces wear at the feed inlet.
Usable life is extended with a wear-resistant ceramic
insert that is molded into the apex of the hydrocyclone,
traditionally the highest wear area. This ceramic mate-
rial resists abrasion many times over standard poly-
meric material.
All 12-inch and 4-inch cones are mounted on rugged
skids with a lifting eye to facilitate handling.

Brandt Centrifuge HS-3400™

Brandt Centrifuge HS-3400™

Brandt’s HS-3400™ centrifuge offers excellent perfor-

mance over a wide range of applications under various
conditions. On all models, adjustments to the dam
plates change liquid pond depths. Typically, deeper
ponds are used with high solids content fluid, while
shallow ponds are used for maximum dryness. The
rotating assembly is manufactured from stainless
steel; areas of potential wear on the scroll are fully
protected with durable tungsten carbide. HS-3400
centrifuges come in several configurations.

VSD (Variable Speed Drive) models use a variable

speed hydraulic motor. The Brandt HS-3400 VSD™
Centrifuge will give infinite speed control from 1500
RPM to 4000 RPM, (1500 RPM minimum speed must
be achieved before the feed pump will start). A fixed
displacement axial piston motor is used to drive the
centrifuge via V-belt drive. Hydraulic power is provided
(via a closed loop hydraulic circuit) by a variable dis-
placement axial piston pump with swash plate con-

Brandt Mud Making Equipment

Brandt Mud Making Equipment

Automatic Sack Cutter

Brandt offers a fully automated sack cutter for a wide
variety of sack types. Features include:
■ Automated handling of all types of sacks up to 110
lb (50 kg)
■ Discharge rates 6 to 7 sacks/min 331 lb/min,
(150 kg/min)
■ Manual, remote or automatic discharge control
options
■ Integral dust extraction/reclamation system
■ Options for safe or classified area
■ Closed loop dust extraction system
Emptied sacks are compacted and discharged into a
collection tube. A high efficiency dust extraction sys-
tem is fitted to ensure dust free operation
While manually mixing chemicals, operators are
exposed to high levels of chemical dust for extended
periods attempting to achieve correct chemical addi-
tion rates.
Use of an automated chemical discharge system
reduces operator dust exposure to minute levels and
gives greater control of additive consumption and fluid
properties thus reducing costs.
Big Bag Handling
Brandt’s big bag handling system allows accurate addi-
tion of chemicals without manual handling or exposure
to potentially hazardous substances. Features include:
■ Rugged skid mounted equipment to allow con-
trolled discharge of chemical “Big Bags”.
■ Automated or manual control
■ Automatic loss-in-weight discharge control
■ Accurate control over rates of addition
■ Local or remote/automated control
■ Totally enclosed dust free operation
■ Handles all single or multi-trip “Big Bags”
■ Options for safe or classified areas
The ability to open and close the container allows par-
tial discharges to be achieved. The big bag, when
empty, is ‘low volume’ to store, easily transported
278 when empty and may be filled at source or at the mud
company supply point. The aim is to reduce liability for
high cost labor at the rig site. Flow from the big bag is
induced by a combination of vibration and massaging
of the bag.

Brandt Degassers and Auxiliary Equipment

Brandt Degassers and Auxiliary Equipment

Brandt DG-5™ and DG-10™ degassers incorporate more leaf area than other degassers.
This expansive multiple-leaf surface area spreads the gas-cut mud so that entrained gas
bubbles are brought to the surface. The gas collects at the top of the chamber and exits
the vessel with the aid of a vacuum pump. The degassed mud is drawn from the bottom
of the vessel through a high efficiency eductor. Unlike conventional units, which are avail-
able in only one size, the Brandt degasser is available in two sizes - the DG-5 for flow rates
up to 500 GPM and the DG-10 for flow rates up to 1000 GPM (3785 LPM).

The VG-1™ Degasser processes up to 1000 GPM (3785 LPM) of

50% gas-cut mud in a single unit. The low-profile, horizontal design stands only 60 in
(1524 mm) high, allowing the VG-1 Degasser to fit in locations where headroom is lim-
ited. The VG-1 degasser is designed as a single-lift unit. The vacuum vessel, pump, and
pump piping are mounted on a single oilfield-style skid and equipped with lifting eye
hoist points. The unit easily fits into position. Suction and discharge piping is simple to
complete.

The multi-purpose Enviro Vac™ vacuum pump offers superior performance in
a unitized package. This space saving design incorporates the vacuum pump,
collection vessel (with safety float switch) and filter vessel. The system can
be installed to perform clean-up duties by routing pick up lines to specified
areas on the rig floor, mud room or wherever liquid or slurry spills might
occur. The Enviro Vac is able to operate automatically or manually simply and
effectively. Once a power supply is installed, and piping or hoses are routed
to the desired pick-up points, the Enviro Vac is ready for duty.

Brandt Cuttings Injection

Brandt Cuttings Injection

CRI™ (Cuttings Reinjection) results in zero discharge

to the environment. The CRI process is permanent,
safe, and dependable. In fact, Brandt has safely
injected over 10 million barrels (1,589,873 m3) of
waste material. Each Brandt injection system fully
complies with “zero discharge” requirements with
proven licensed technology.
Brandt can supply a CRI system that will process up to
25 tons ( 22,680 kg) per hour and inject up to 300 bar-
rels per hour (48 m3). Custom units have successfully
processed over 200 ft/hr (61 m/hr) of 16-in (406 mm)
hole, thus assuring continuous drilling uptime.
