Aim:

Explain the progress of india towards achieving the sustainable developmemt goals

Theory/Literature Review:

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals established by the
United Nations in 2015. They address various challenges, including poverty, inequality,
climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. The SDGs originated from
the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and were officially adopted as a universal call to
action for all countries.

The SDGs were introduced as a response to the shortcomings of the MDGs. The process
began with extensive global consultations, involving governments, NGOs, businesses, and
citizens worldwide. The SDGs emerged from a recognition of the interconnectedness of
global challenges and the need for a comprehensive and integrated approach to sustainable
development.

These goals originated from various international conferences and negotiations, with the
Rio+20 Conference in 2012 playing a pivotal role. The SDGs officially came into effect on
January 1, 2016, succeeding the MDGs. There are 17 SDGs, each with specific targets to be
achieved by 2030. The fundamental principles of the SDGs include universality, leaving no
one behind, and an emphasis on the interconnectedness of social, economic, and
environmental aspects.

Methodology:

Data for this project was sourced from official government reports, state government
publications, annual progress reports, and documents from reputable organizations like the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The chosen methodology involved a
systematic review of government websites, company reports, and research papers.

SDG-1 was selected for in-depth study. Data, programs, and policies related to poverty
eradication were analyzed using information extracted from government websites, specific
company reports, and relevant research papers. The research process followed a
comprehensive approach to gather and synthesize information from credible source

Observations:

In my observation, based on research, Tamil Nadu, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Andhra

Pradesh, Kerala, and Uttarakhand emerge as front runners in achieving Sustainable
Development Goal 1. On the other hand, my findings indicate that, in the international
context, the African continent, particularly in foreign regions, lags behind in the performance
of SDG 1.
