The effects of climate change in recent years have been increasingly evident and concerning. We are
witnessing more frequent and intense natural disasters such as hurricanes, droughts, and wildfires.

I don't usually watch sports, but there's something special about watching football games when our
national team competes. Whenever our national football team has a match, I gather with my family and
friends to watch it on TV. The reason I enjoy these matches is because they make me feel proud of our
country. Seeing our team represent our nation on the international stage fills me with a sense of
patriotism. The excitement leading up to the game and the atmosphere during the match are electric.
Every goal or successful play fills us with joy and brings us closer together. Another reason I enjoy
watching football is the strategy and tactics involved in the game. Each team has its own style of play,
and it's interesting to see how they adapt their strategy based on the strengths and weaknesses of their
opponents. It's also fascinating to watch how individual players contribute to their team's success,
whether it's through their passing, defending, or scoring ability.
What I find particularly inspiring is how these matches unite people. It's a moment when fellow citizens
come together, forgetting their differences, and supporting a shared cause. We chant and celebrate
together, creating a sense of belonging and camaraderie within our nation. Watching our national team
play also allows us to showcase our country's talent and determination. It's motivating to see our
players give their best, showing off their skills and representing our nation with pride. Witnessing their
teamwork, passion, and dedication fuels my own sense of national pride.

I would like to talk about my friend, Emily, who recently embarked on an exciting adventure by moving
to New York City to pursue her higher education. Emily and I have been close friends since childhood,
and I was both thrilled and sad when she made the decision to study abroad.
Emily's destination is the bustling and vibrant city of New York, which is renowned for its iconic
landmarks, diverse culture, and endless opportunities. The city is a melting pot of different cultures,
offering a vibrant art scene, world-class museums, Broadway shows, and a fast-paced lifestyle. With its
prestigious universities and colleges, New York City has long been a popular destination for
international students seeking academic excellence.
The primary reason behind Emily's decision to move abroad was the opportunity to pursue a bachelor's
degree in journalism at a renowned university in New York City. She has always been passionate about
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
writing and storytelling, and she believed that studying in such a dynamic city would provide her with
unparalleled experiences and resources to develop her skills further. Additionally, New York City is a
hub for media and journalism, offering numerous internship and networking opportunities that would
help her jumpstart her career.
As for the impact on me, I have experienced mixed emotions. On one hand, I miss Emily's presence in
my daily life. We used to spend a lot of time together, studying, exploring new places, hanging out, and
sharing our thoughts and stories. On the other hand, I am incredibly proud of her for having the
courage to pursue her dreams and step out of her comfort zone. We have been staying connected
through video calls and social media, and she has shared her experiences of living in the city that never
sleeps. Through her stories, I have gained insights into the diverse neighborhoods, the vibrant art scene,
and the energy of the city.
In conclusion, my friend Emily's decision to study abroad in New York City has had a mixed impact on
me. While I miss her physical presence, I am proud of her for pursuing her academic and career goals in
such an exciting city.
Part 3
1. Why do some young people keep moving?
Some young people keep moving for various reasons. One common reason is pursuing educational
opportunities. They may move to different cities or countries to attend universities or pursue
specialized training. Others may move for career opportunities, seeking better job prospects or
internships in different locations. Additionally, some young people move to experience new
environments, explore different cultures, or simply seek independence and adventure.
2. What's the difference between living alone and living with roommates?
When living alone, individuals have complete autonomy and privacy. They can make all the decisions
about their living space and daily routines. Living alone provides a sense of independence and freedom,
allowing individuals to create their own environment and live according to their preferences. On the
other hand, living with roommates involves sharing living spaces and responsibilities. Sharing expenses
with roommates can be cost-effective, allowing individuals to split rent and utility bills, which can be
financially advantageous. But living with roommates can have its challenges as well. Differences in
lifestyle, cleanliness, or personal habits may lead to conflicts or disagreements. It requires effective
communication, compromise, and respect for each other's boundaries and privacy.
- autonomy: the ability to make your own decisions without being controlled by anyone else
- cost-effective: If an activity is cost-effective, it is good value for the amount of money paid
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
decisions and take responsibility for their own lives. They learn to manage their time, finances, and daily
routines, which fosters personal growth and maturity. Moreover, living alone can enhance problem-
solving skills. Young individuals face various challenges and obstacles that require them to find solutions
independently. From managing household tasks to resolving issues that arise, they develop critical
thinking and adaptability skills, which are valuable in both personal and professional aspects of life.
- self-reliance: the quality of not needing help or support from other people
4. Besides cooking, are there any other skills that people need to learn if they live on their own?
Living on their own requires individuals to develop various skills beyond cooking. When living
independently, individuals need to learn how to manage their finances effectively. This includes
creating a budget, tracking expenses, paying bills on time, and understanding basic financial concepts
such as saving and investing. Individuals should learn basic home maintenance skills such as
troubleshooting minor repairs, handling household appliances, and keeping their living environment
clean and organized. This includes tasks like changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, or unclogging
drains.
- home maintenance: the process of keeping property and equipment it in good condition through
routine testing, diagnosis and by executing necessary repairs
- unclogging drains: remove a clog, or physical obstruction (like hair) from the drains so that they can
function properly
6. How can parents and teachers help young people to live independently?
Parents and teachers can gradually delegate age-appropriate responsibilities to young individuals, such
as managing their personal finances, doing household chores, or making decisions regarding their daily
routines. This fosters a sense of accountability and self-reliance, preparing them for independent living.
Moreover, they can provide practical guidance on essential life skills necessary for independent living.
This includes teaching them how to cook nutritious meals, do laundry, manage personal hygiene, and
handle basic home maintenance tasks. Offering hands-on training or organizing workshops can also
help young people develop these skills effectively.
- delegate: to give a particular job, duty, right, etc. to someone else so that they do it for you
- age-appropriate: suitable or right for people of a particular age
- accountability: the fact of being responsible for what you do and able to give a satisfactory reason

Describe an interesting job that you want to have in the future
You should say:
What it is
How you can find this job
What skills it requires
And explain why it is an interesting job
In the future, I've always envisioned myself as a professional singer, a job that truly captivates and
fascinates me. There's something magical about being able to touch people's hearts through the power
of music.
To pursue a career as a singer, I would first focus on developing my vocal skills and musical abilities. I
would seek vocal training from qualified instructors who can help me improve my technique, expand
my vocal range, and enhance my stage presence. Additionally, I would actively participate in local music
events, and talent competitions to gain performance experience and exposure.
In today's digital age, promoting oneself as a singer has become more accessible. I would create a
strong online presence by recording and sharing my performances on platforms like YouTube,
SoundCloud, and social media. Utilizing these platforms would allow me to connect with a wider
audience and potentially attract the attention of industry professionals.
Being a successful singer requires a combination of natural talent, hard work, and dedication. It is
essential to have a strong vocal range, good pitch control, and the ability to express emotions through
singing. Additionally, having a solid understanding of music theory, including rhythm and melody, is
crucial for interpreting and delivering songs effectively. Stage presence, charisma, and the ability to
engage with the audience are also important skills that can enhance the overall performance.
The reason I find a career as a singer fascinating is because of the profound impact music has on
people's lives. Singing allows me to connect with others on an emotional level and convey messages
that can inspire, uplift, and even heal. It's an art form that transcends cultural barriers and has the
power to bring people together. The joy of performing, the thrill of being on stage, and the ability to
touch people's hearts through music are all aspects that make it an incredibly interesting and fulfilling
job for me.
However, I must admit that while it is a strong aspiration, I'm not entirely certain if I will ultimately
pursue it. The music industry can be highly competitive and unpredictable, making success far from
guaranteed. But the passion for music and the joy of singing will always hold a special place in my heart.

5. Which jobs pay low wages but require a high level of skills?
Some jobs that require a high level of skills but pay relatively low wages in my country include
professions in the arts, and certain service sectors. Artists, musicians, or actors, for example, may
require significant talent, years of training, and dedication, but they often struggle to earn high incomes
unless they achieve notable success. In certain service sectors, such as caregiving or early childhood
education, workers may require specialized training and qualifications, but the wages may not always
reflect the level of skill and dedication involved. These jobs are often undervalued in terms of financial
compensation, despite the importance of their contributions to society.
- notable: important and deserving attention
- undervalue: to consider something to have less worth or importance than it really has
- compensation: something, especially money, that somebody gives you because they have hurt you,
or damaged something that you own

I’m gonna talk about an important decision I made, it was choosing my high school. I really wanted to
find a school where I could receive a quality education and have teachers who would inspire and
support me along the way. So I did a lot of research. I looked into different high schools in my area and
checked out their academic reputation. I wanted a school that had a strong track record of academic
success and a curriculum that would challenge me. One of the things that mattered most to me was the
teachers. I wanted teachers who were not only knowledgeable in their subjects but also passionate
about teaching. So, I talked to former and current students to get a sense of how the teachers were. It
was important for me to have teachers who cared about their students' success and were willing to go
the extra mile to help them.
Another thing I considered was the resources and facilities available at each school. I wanted to make
sure that the school had a well-equipped library, modern classrooms, and access to technology. Having
these resources would enhance my learning experience and make it easier for me to explore different
subjects. In the end, I chose a high school known for its academic excellence and dedicated teachers.

The teachers at that school were fantastic! They not only had a deep knowledge of their subjects but
also knew how to make the classes engaging and enjoyable. They challenged me to think critically and
pushed me to reach my full potential.
Being in a school with such high-quality teachers had a tremendous impact on my academic journey. I
felt supported and encouraged to take on new challenges and pursue my interests. The teachers were
always available to help me with any questions or concerns I had, and their guidance played a
significant role in shaping my academic success. Moreover, the school's emphasis on academic
excellence created a stimulating and competitive environment among the students. I was surrounded
by motivated peers who shared a similar drive for success. This motivated me to work harder and strive
for personal growth. Looking back, I'm incredibly grateful for the decision I made in choosing my high

Describe a water sport you would like to try in the future
You should say:
What it is
Where you would like to try it
Whether it is difficult
And explain why you would like to try it
Well, one water sport that has always intrigued me and that I would love to try is snorkeling. Snorkeling
is such an amazing activity where you get to swim on the water's surface while wearing a snorkel, which
is basically a breathing tube, and a mask to explore the underwater world.
When it comes to choosing a location for this exciting adventure, I can't help but dream of snorkeling in
the Great Barrier Reef, which is located in Australia. The Great Barrier Reef is famous worldwide for its
breathtaking beauty, vibrant coral reefs, and crystal-clear waters. Just the thought of being able to
witness the incredible marine life and colorful coral formations in such a remarkable place gives me a
sense of awe and excitement.
What I find particularly appealing about snorkeling is that it's generally considered to be a relatively
easy and accessible water sport. You don't need extensive training or expensive equipment to enjoy it.
You just need to have basic swimming skills and feeling comfortable in the water.
Now, let me tell you why I'm so eager to try snorkeling. Firstly, it offers a unique opportunity to
immerse myself in a completely different world—the underwater world. Being able to observe the
vibrant colors of coral, swim alongside a variety of tropical fish, and maybe even spot majestic sea
turtles or playful dolphins would be amazing. It's a chance to connect with nature in a way that I've
never experienced before.
Secondly, snorkeling provides a sense of tranquility and relaxation. There's something incredibly
calming about floating on the water's surface, feeling weightless, and hearing the soothing sounds of
the waves. It's a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life—a chance to unwind and find serenity.
Lastly, snorkeling ignites a spirit of adventure and exploration within me. It's not just about swimming
and observing; it's about discovering hidden underwater coves, venturing into mysterious caves, and
encountering unique marine species. The thrill of stepping outside my comfort zone and experiencing
the unknown fills me with anticipation and curiosity. It's an opportunity to appreciate the wonders of
nature in a way that leaves a lasting impact.
In conlusion, snorkeling is a water sport that captivates me, and I can't wait to try it in the future.

Yes, it can be argued that the media puts a disproportionate amount of attention on famous people.
Nowadays, with the rise of social media and 24/7 news coverage, celebrities and their lives often
dominate the headlines and entertainment news. This excessive focus on famous individuals can lead to
the neglect of more significant issues and events happening in the world. It is important for the media
to strike a balance and allocate attention to a wide range of topics that are relevant and impactful to
society.

Not necessarily. While some famous individuals have achieved great success and recognition in their
respective fields, fame itself does not guarantee expertise or skill. The attainment of fame can be
influenced by various factors such as charisma, marketability, or even chance. There are instances
where famous individuals may lack true talent or proficiency in their fields but have garnered attention
due to other factors like their personal life or controversies. It is important to separate fame from actual
competence and recognize that expertise can exist independently of celebrity status.

One key difference between famous people today and those in the past is the influence of technology
and media platforms. With the advent of the internet and social media, fame can be attained and
spread more rapidly and extensively. Today, individuals can become famous for their personal lives
without any significant accomplishments overnight through viral videos or social media trends, whereas
in the past, achieving fame often required more traditional paths like professional achievements, artistic
accomplishments, or media exposure. Famous people were often public figures known for their
exceptional talents or contributions to society.

One time, I got lost while hiking in a thick forest. I was exploring a new trail in a national park that I
hadn't been to before. The trail seemed really exciting because it promised amazing views and
untouched nature. But it also meant going into unfamiliar territory.
As I went further into the forest, I got so caught up in the beautiful surroundings that I lost sight of the
trail markers. The dense trees and plants made it hard to see where I was going, and before I knew it, I
had strayed off the right path. I started feeling worried because I had no idea which way to go.
I felt a mix of frustration, anxiety, and a bit of fear. Being lost in a strange place, especially a dense
forest, can be really scary. The silence of the forest made it even scarier.
To find my way back, I decided to go back the way I came and carefully look at everything around me. I
tried to find anything that looked familiar or could guide me back to the trail. Luckily, I had brought a
compass and a map with me, which turned out to be really helpful. I compared the things on the map
with what I saw in front of me, trying to find anything that I recognized.
After some time of looking closely and thinking, I figured out the general direction I needed to go in. I
slowly made my way back, being really careful not to go even more off track. Eventually, I found a
familiar trail marker, and I felt so relieved. I followed the markers and retraced my steps until I got back
to the main trail and, finally, back to the park entrance.
This experience taught me how important it is to be prepared and stay focused when exploring new
places. It also reminded me to stay calm and think clearly when things get tough. Overall, getting lost in
the forest was really scary. It made me more careful and ready for future adventures, like double-
checking my gear, studying maps carefully, and staying alert when I'm in unfamiliar places.

Describe a movie you watched recently that you felt disappointed about
You should say:
What it is
What it is about
Why you decided to watch it
And explain why you felt disappointed about it
Recently, I watched the movie "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and I must say that I felt
disappointed about it. It is the fifth installment in the "Harry Potter" series, based on the beloved books
by J.K. Rowling. I decided to watch this movie because I had read the book and was eager to see how
the story would be brought to life on the big screen. The "Harry Potter" series had always captivated
me with its magical world, rich characters, and engaging plotlines. I had high expectations for this
particular movie, especially since it was a pivotal point in the series. However, I felt disappointed with it
for several reasons. Firstly, the movie seemed to rush through important events and character
development. The book was quite lengthy and had a lot of intricate details, but the film condensed the
story, leaving out significant moments and details. As a result, some character motivations and
relationships felt underdeveloped, and crucial plot points were not given enough time to unfold
properly. It felt like some important scenes were cut short. Additionally, the pacing of the film felt
uneven. Certain scenes, such as the intense duels and confrontations, were over too quickly, not
allowing the tension to build up effectively. On the other hand, there were moments of prolonged
dialogue or exposition that seemed to drag on, slowing down the overall momentum of the movie. This
imbalance in pacing disrupted the flow of the story and made it difficult for me to fully immerse myself
in the magical world. Moreover, I found that some of the performances in the movie fell short of my
expectations. While the actors had done a good job in the previous films, in this film some of the
characters felt less engaging and their emotional depth seemed lacking. Overall, my disappointment
with it stemmed from the rushed storytelling, uneven pacing, occasionally underwhelming
performances, and missed opportunities to explore important subplots and characters. As a devoted
fan of the "Harry Potter" series, I had hoped for a more faithful and immersive adaptation of the
beloved book, but unfortunately, I don't really like this movie.

drove along, we couldn't help but be amazed by the pretty landscapes that appeared before us. Rolling
hills covered in bright green fields stretched out as far as we could see. We also passed through
charming little towns that looked like they were right out of a storybook. During the trip, we made a
few stops to explore some really nice places along the way. One of the stops was at a small village with
narrow streets lined with cute houses. It felt like we had traveled back in time and were experiencing
the charm of the countryside. We also took a break at a lovely park surrounded by nature's beauty. The
air was fresh and made us feel refreshed, and we found a quiet spot to have a picnic. We enjoyed
delicious homemade sandwiches while taking in the peaceful surroundings and the gentle sound of
leaves rustling in the nearby trees. It was a moment of pure relaxation, where we could just enjoy the
beauty around us. What made this car journey so special was the quality time we spent together as a
family. The car became a place of laughter, conversations, and shared experiences. We played our
favorite music, sang along, and had friendly chats. It was a time for us to connect, strengthen our
bonds, and create memories that we would always remember. Looking back, I can't help but feel a
strong sense of joy and happiness about the trip. The countryside scenery was absolutely beautiful, and
being with my loved ones made it even more special. It reminded me of how important it is to treasure
family moments and appreciate the simple pleasures of life. That car trip to the countryside with my
family is a memory that will stay with me forever.

1. What benefits does public transport bring to the world?
Public transport offers numerous benefits to the world. Firstly, it helps reduce traffic congestion by
providing an efficient means of transportation for a large number of people. This contributes to
smoother traffic flow and decreases the environmental impact associated with congested roads. Public
transport reduces air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by minimizing the number of individual
vehicles on the road. Moreover, public transport improves accessibility, especially for those who do not
own private vehicles or cannot drive. It provides affordable and convenient transportation options for
all members of society, regardless of income or physical ability.
- smooth: happening without any sudden changes, interruption, or difficulty
- minimize: to reduce something to the least possible level or amount

2. Is it too late for people to get the driver licence at the age of 18?
Setting the minimum age for obtaining a driver's license at 18 is appropriate considering the potential
lack of maturity and experience among younger individuals. At such a young age, individuals might not
have developed the necessary judgment, decision-making skills, and emotional maturity to handle the
responsibilities of driving safely. Waiting until 18 allows for additional time for individuals to gain
valuable life experiences, develop better decision-making abilities, and enhance their understanding of
road safety.
- obtain: to get something, esp. by a planned effort
- handle: to deal with, have responsibility for, or be in charge of
4. Do you think the government should make it a rule for people to use public transport?
Whether the government should make it mandatory for people to use public transport is a complex
question. While promoting public transport is beneficial for reducing traffic congestion and lowering
emissions, mandating its use may not be feasible or suitable for every situation. It is essential for
governments to provide reliable and efficient public transport options that are convenient, affordable,
and meet the needs of the population. Encouraging the use of public transport through incentives,
improved infrastructure, and awareness campaigns may be more effective than imposing strict
mandates.

Describe an occasion when you spent (quite some) time with a young child
You should say:
Who this child was
When you spent time with this child
What you did together
Why you spent time with this child
And explain how you felt about it
The occasion I would like to describe is when I spent quite some time with my niece during her summer
vacation. My niece, Emma, is a delightful five-year-old girl with a bubbly personality.
I had the opportunity to spend time with Emma last summer when she visited us for a week. It was a
much-anticipated event as we hadn't seen each other in quite a while. I had planned to take some time
off work to make the most of her visit.
During our time together, we engaged in various activities that she enjoyed. We would start our
mornings by reading her favorite storybooks, which she loved. After that, we would go to the nearby
park, where she could play on the swings, slides, and interact with other children. We also played
games like hide-and-seek and tag, which always filled her with laughter and excitement. In the
evenings, we would watch her favorite animated movies, and I would often make her favorite snacks to
enjoy while watching.
The reason I spent time with Emma was not only because she is my niece, but also because I wanted to
strengthen our bond and create lasting memories. Since I live in a different city, opportunities to see
her are limited, so I wanted to make the most of her visit and cherish the time we had together.
I felt extremely happy and fulfilled spending time with Emma. Her innocence, curiosity, and pure joy
were contagious. Being around her reminded me of the beauty in simple things and allowed me to see
the world through a fresh perspective. It was heartwarming to witness her laughter and enthusiasm
during our activities. The time I spent with Emma was not only enjoyable but also served as a reminder
of the importance of nurturing family relationships and cherishing the moments spent with loved ones.
Overall, spending time with Emma was an unforgettable experience. It allowed me to form a stronger

1. Do you think children should have a lot of toys?
It is beneficial for children to have a reasonable number of toys that cater to their developmental
needs. Research suggests that toys play a crucial role in a child's cognitive, social, and emotional
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
development. Toys stimulate imagination and creativity, allowing children to engage in pretend play
and explore different scenarios. Additionally, toys can enhance cognitive skills such as problem-solving
and spatial awareness. For example, building blocks or puzzles can promote logical thinking and fine
motor skills. However, it is important to strike a balance and avoid excessive materialism or
dependency on toys.
- cater: to provide, and sometimes serve, food
- stimulate: to encourage something to grow, develop, or become active
- scenario: a description of possible actions or events in the future
- strike a balance: to manage to find a way of being fair to two things that are opposed to each other;
to find an acceptable position that is between two things
- excessive: too much or too many
- materialism: the belief that having money and possessions is the most important thing in life
3. Do you think there are too many rules for children to follow, whether at school or home?
While rules are important for maintaining discipline and ensuring children's safety, an excessive number
of rules can be overwhelming and restrict a child's freedom. Rules provide structure and guidance,
teaching children about boundaries, responsibilities, and societal norms. However, an excessive focus
on rules can hinder a child's autonomy, creativity, and problem-solving skills. It is important to strike a
balance between setting reasonable rules and allowing children the freedom to explore, make mistakes,
and learn from their experiences. This approach encourages independent thinking, self-regulation, and
the development of moral values.
- overwhelming: very great or very strong; so powerful that you cannot resist it or decide how to
react
- norm: an accepted standard or a way of behaving or doing things that most people agree with
- hinder: to limit the ability of someone to do something, or to limit the development of something

the future. It is important for parents and educators to create an open and supportive environment
where children feel comfortable discussing rules and their implications.
- abide by something: to accept or obey an agreement, decision, or rule
- moral: connected with principles of right and wrong behaviour
- compass compass: a natural feeling that makes people know what is right and wrong and how they

5. Do you think it's necessary for parents to make decisions for their children?
Parents play a crucial role in guiding and making decisions for their children, especially when they are
young and lack the necessary experience or judgment. Parents have the responsibility to ensure the
well-being and development of their children, and decision-making is an integral part of that
responsibility. Parents often make decisions regarding education, health, and general upbringing to
provide a supportive and nurturing environment. However, as children grow older, it becomes crucial to
gradually involve them in decision-making processes. Allowing children to participate in decision-
making helps them develop decision-making skills, learn from consequences, and gain a sense of
autonomy.
- upbringing: the way in which a child is cared for and taught how to behave while it is growing up
- autonomy: the ability to make your own decisions without being controlled by anyone else
6. Do you think it is good for parents to help their children choose friends?
Parents can play a supportive role in helping their children choose friends, especially during their
formative years. By discussing the qualities of healthy relationships, such as trust, respect, and shared
interests, parents can help their children make informed choices about the friends they associate with.
Parents can also provide guidance in assessing the character and behavior of potential friends. By
discussing red flags such as bullying, peer pressure, or negative influences, parents can help their
children identify and avoid harmful relationships. They can encourage their children to seek out friends
who are supportive, positive, and share similar values, fostering a sense of belonging and promoting
personal growth.
- formative: relating to the time when someone or something is starting to develop in character
- red flag: a sign that something bad is happening or could happen
- peer pressure: the strong influence of a group, especially of children, on members of that group to
behave as everyone else does
An occasion when I received incorrect information happened a couple of months ago when I was
planning a trip to a popular tourist destination. I was relying on a famous travel website to gather
information about the local attractions and transportation options. I got the information when I visited
the website and navigated through their pages dedicated to the destination I was interested in. The
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
website claimed to provide up-to-date details on tourist spots, recommended hotels, and the most
convenient modes of transportation. I spent a significant amount of time reading through the articles
and reviews, jotting down notes to help plan my trip accordingly.
It was only when I arrived at the destination that I realized the information I had obtained from the
website was incorrect. The first issue I encountered was with the transportation. The website had
mentioned that there were frequent buses running between the city center and the tourist attractions,
but when I reached there, I found out that the bus service had been discontinued months ago. This
caused a significant inconvenience as I had to rely on expensive taxis for transportation.
Furthermore, the website had praised a particular restaurant as one of the best in the area, so I decided
to give it a try. However, when I reached the restaurant, I was disappointed to find that the quality of
the food and service did not live up to the website's claims. It was an underwhelming experience that
left me questioning the credibility of the information I had received. When I discovered that the
information was incorrect, I felt frustrated and let down.
I had put my trust in the website's reputation, assuming that the information provided would be
reliable and accurate. However, it turned out to be misleading, causing unnecessary difficulties during
my trip. I couldn't help but feel a sense of wasted time and resources. This experience taught me the
importance of cross-referencing information from multiple sources and not solely relying on a single
website. It also made me more cautious when it comes to trusting online platforms without verifying
the accuracy of the information they provide.
- navigate: to move around a website or computer screen, or between websites or screens
- live up to something: to achieve what is expected, esp. high standards
- jot something down: to write something quickly on a piece of paper so that you remember it
- assume: to accept something to be true without question or proof
- cross-reference: a note in a book or document that tells you to look somewhere else in the book or
document for more information
- cautious: being careful about what you say or do, especially to avoid danger or mistakes; not taking
any risks
- verify: to make certain or prove that something is true or accurate
Part 3
1. Why do some people not trust information on the Internet?
Some people may not trust information on the Internet due to several reasons. First, the internet is an
open platform where anyone can publish content, leading to a vast amount of information of varying
quality and reliability. This abundance of information makes it difficult for individuals to discern credible
sources from unreliable ones. Additionally, misinformation and fake news spread easily through social
media and other online platforms, further eroding trust in online information. The lack of
accountability and fact-checking processes associated with online content also contributes to
skepticism
- discern: to be able to see, recognize, understand, or decide something:
- erode: to slowly reduce or destroy something
- accountability: the fact of being responsible for what you do and able to give a satisfactory reason
for it, or the degree to which this happens
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- fact-checking: the process of checking that all the facts in a piece of writing, a news article, a speech,
etc. are correct:
- skepticism: doubt that something is true or useful
3. What's the difference between email and phone in terms of providing information?
Email and phone communication offer distinct advantages when it comes to providing information. It
offers the benefit of creating a permanent record of the information exchanged, making it easy to refer
back to details or instructions. Email is well-suited for conveying complex or lengthy information,
sharing documents or links, and reaching multiple recipients simultaneously. On the other hand, phone
communication offers real-time interaction and immediate feedback. It allows for a more dynamic and
personal exchange of information through voice conversations.
- well-suited: suitable or fitting for a particular purpose, person, occasion, etc
- multiple: very many of the same type, or of different types
- recipient: a person who receives something
- simultaneously: in a way that is simultaneous (= happening or being done at exactly the same time)
4. Which do you think is the better way to provide information, by phone or by email?
The choice between phone and email as a better way to provide information depends on the context
and the specific needs of the individuals involved. Email is advantageous when detailed or lengthy
information needs to be shared, or when there is a need for a written record. It allows recipients to
review and process the information at their convenience. Phone communication, on the other hand,
excels in situations that require immediate clarification, personal interaction, or when conveying
emotions is crucial. It allows for real-time dialogue, ensuring efficient and effective information
exchange. Ultimately, the preferred method depends on factors such as urgency, complexity, personal
preferences, and the nature of the information being shared
- advantageous: giving advantages or helping to make you more successful
- clarification: an explanation or more details that makes something clear or easier to understand
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- employ: to use something
- evaluate: to judge or calculate the quality, importance, amount, or value of something
- publication: a book, magazine, newspaper, or document in which information or stories are
published
- reputable: having a good reputation and able to be trusted
Describe a place you have been to where there were lots of people
You should say:
Where it is
Who you were with
What people were doing there
And explain why there were lots of people
One place in my hometown that always has a lot of people is the night market. It's located in the middle
of the city and comes alive in the evenings, attracting many visitors. When I go to the night market, I
usually go with my family or friends. It's a fun outing where we can enjoy the lively atmosphere and try
different foods. The night market is a bustling place with many stalls selling all kinds of things. You can
find clothes, accessories, toys, and other items. However, the most enticing part of the night market is

watering grilled skewers to piping hot noodles, and from savory snacks to sweet treats, there is an
abundance of culinary delights to satisfy any palate. It's a haven for food lovers.
The market is always abuzz with people engaged in different activities. Families can be seen strolling
around, parents holding hands with their children. The kids get all excited about the toys and games on
display. Friends gather around the food stalls, having a good laugh and enjoying themselves.
Occasionally, you might even come across street performers, like musicians or magicians, entertaining
the crowd. The reason why the night market sees such a large number of people is because it's a fun
place to visit. People are drawn to the vibrant atmosphere, delicious food, and the chance to
experience something different. It's an opportunity to indulge in shopping, savor tasty treats, and
spend quality time with loved ones. The night market offers a unique blend of entertainment, cultural
exploration, and culinary delights. Personally, I feel incredibly happy and excited when I'm at the night

I gave a talk to a group of students from different schools in our city. The talk was about the importance
of mental health and strategies for managing stress and anxiety. I decided to give this talk because I had
personally experienced the challenges of mental health during my academic journey and wanted to
share my insights and approaches for dealing with these challenges. The talk focused on raising
awareness about mental health issues that students commonly face, such as exam stress, peer
pressure, and self-esteem concerns. I discussed the impact of these challenges on our overall well-
being and emphasized the importance of seeking support and practicing self-care. I also shared practical
strategies like mindfulness exercises, time management techniques, and seeking professional help
when needed. I gave the talk with the intention of helping my fellow students understand that they are
not alone in their struggles and that there are ways to overcome them. As a student delivering this talk,
I felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness. I was passionate about the topic and genuinely wanted
to make a positive impact on the lives of my peers. However, I also felt a sense of responsibility to
deliver the information effectively and connect with the audience on a personal level. During the talk, I
could sense the engagement and genuine interest from the students. They listened attentively, asked
questions, and shared their own experiences. Witnessing their reactions and seeing them nod in
agreement gave me a sense of validation and fulfillment. It was gratifying to know that I was able to
provide valuable insights and resources that resonated with them. After the talk, I felt a deep sense of
satisfaction and pride. It was immensely rewarding to see the impact of my words and witness the
positive effect it had on the students. Many approached me afterward to express their gratitude and
share how they resonated with my personal stories. Knowing that I had created a safe space for open
conversations and potentially helped others in their mental health journey filled me with a profound

You should say:

When I was a kid, I had an incredibly happy experience during a beach vacation with my family. It was a
sunny summer, about seven years ago, in a lovely coastal town called Oceanview.
During that trip, my parents, my younger sister, and I were joined by some cousins from my mom's side
of the family. We stayed in a cozy beach house that was conveniently close to the sandy shores.
We spent the whole day at the beach, and it was a blast! We built amazing sandcastles, played lots of
beach volleyball, and had a great time splashing around in the cool waves. The beach was so colorful
with all the umbrellas and towels people had set up. We even had a yummy picnic lunch with
sandwiches we made ourselves and some refreshing fruit salads.
But what made this experience really special was the time we spent together as a family. We laughed a
lot, played together, and made so many happy memories. Seeing my little sister laughing and running
around with so much excitement brought me so much joy. And it was awesome to bond with my
cousins, too. We really felt close and had a great time hanging out together.
That beach vacation was a wonderful break from our usual routines. We could relax and just enjoy the
simple things in life. The sound of the waves crashing, the warm sun on our skin, and the fresh ocean
breeze made the whole experience even better.
It also made me appreciate the beauty of nature and the amazing ocean. Being at that beautiful beach
made me feel peaceful and happy. It made me love the beach even more and made me feel connected
to nature.
Looking back, that beach vacation holds a special place in my heart as one of the happiest memories

and form a lively group of players. It was always a fun and dynamic experience because everyone
brought their own unique strategies and hiding spots to the game.
There were several reasons why I enjoyed playing hide-and-seek. Firstly, it provided a thrilling sense of
anticipation and excitement. The moment the seeker finished counting and started searching, a rush of
adrenaline would surge through me. The challenge of finding the perfect hiding spot and staying quiet
and still added to the suspense and made the game exhilarating.
Secondly, hide-and-seek allowed us to explore our creativity and problem-solving skills. Finding clever
hiding spots required thinking outside the box and utilizing the environment to our advantage. It
sparked our imagination and encouraged us to come up with innovative ways to outsmart the seeker
and stay hidden.
Furthermore, hide-and-seek fostered a sense of friendship. We laughed, shared secrets, and formed
bonds while waiting for our turn to hide or cheering on the seeker. It brought us together and created
lasting memories of joyful moments spent in the park.
Lastly, hide-and-seek was a game that transcended age and brought children of different backgrounds
and personalities together. It was a universal game that united us, regardless of our differences. It
taught us the value of fair play, cooperation, and respect for one another.
In summary, playing hide-and-seek during my younger years was an incredibly enjoyable experience. It
remains a cherished part of my childhood memories and reminds me of the simple joys of being young
and carefree.

Describe an expensive gift that you would like to give someone when you save a lot of money
You should say:
What the gift is
Who you will give the gift to
How long it will take to save the money
And explain why you would like to give the gift to this person
One costly gift that I dream of giving someone when I save up a lot of money is a fancy holiday trip to a
beautiful tropical destination.
I would like to give this gift to my parents, who have always been incredibly supportive and caring. They
have made many sacrifices for me, and I am very grateful for their love and guidance.
Saving enough money for this expensive gift might take me quite a long time, maybe a year or even
more. I would save a portion of my income every month, cut down on unnecessary expenses, and live
frugally to accumulate the necessary funds. The time and effort I put into saving for the gift would make
it even more special and meaningful.
I want to give this luxurious vacation to my parents as a way to show them how much I appreciate
everything they have done for me. They have always put my happiness and well-being first, and now
it's my turn to give back to them. This extravagant trip would provide them with an opportunity to
relax, enjoy themselves, and create precious memories together, away from the daily stresses of life.
Moreover, this gift would be a way to acknowledge their unwavering support and the sacrifices they
have made for me. It would be a token of gratitude for their constant belief in me and their efforts to
ensure my happiness and success. Seeing the happiness on their faces and experiencing their
enjoyment during the vacation would bring me great joy and fulfillment.
In conclusion, the expensive gift I hope to give is a fancy holiday trip to a tropical paradise, specifically
for my parents. Saving up for this gift will require dedication and discipline, but the chance to express
my gratitude and provide them with a well-deserved break makes it all worthwhile. I believe that
creating beautiful memories and pampering them with this special gesture would be a meaningful and
unforgettable way to show my love and appreciation for them.

Young people have diverse aspirations and financial goals they save money for. Some common
objectives include saving for higher education or specialized training, such as attending university or
pursuing vocational courses. Others may save for traveling and exploring new destinations, whether it's
backpacking through Europe or experiencing different cultures around the world. Some young
individuals save to invest in their passions or hobbies, such as buying musical instruments, sports
equipment, or art supplies. Additionally, saving for future financial security, such as building an
emergency fund or saving for a down payment on a house, is also a priority for many young people.

Part 3
1. Is it easy for people to save money to buy something expensive?
Saving money to purchase something expensive can be challenging, but with discipline and effective
financial planning, it is possible. It requires setting clear goals, creating a budget, and identifying areas
where expenses can be reduced or eliminated. People often need to make sacrifices and prioritize their
spending to allocate more funds towards their savings. It may involve cutting back on non-essential
purchases, dining out less frequently, or finding more affordable alternatives. Developing good saving
habits, staying committed to the goal, and seeking ways to increase income or save more can make the
process easier.
- discipline: training that makes people more willing to obey or more able to control themselves,
often in the form of rules
- make sacrifices: the act of giving up something that is valuable to you in order to help someone else
3. Should children learn how to use money at school or from their parents?
Both school and parents play important roles in teaching children about money management. Schools
can incorporate financial literacy programs into their curriculum to provide students with a foundation
of financial knowledge. These programs can cover topics such as budgeting, saving, investing,
understanding credit and debt, and making informed financial decisions. Parents, on the other hand,
have a significant influence on their children's financial habits and attitudes. They can teach practical

One place that immediately comes to mind when thinking about noise is the Grand Central Market in
Los Angeles. It's a vibrant and bustling food market located in the heart of downtown LA, where you
can find a diverse range of culinary delights. I had the opportunity to explore this lively place during my
vacation to California last year.
I remember going to the Grand Central Market on a sunny Saturday afternoon. As I approached the
entrance, the lively ambiance became evident even from a distance. It was around lunchtime, so the
market was packed with locals and tourists alike, all hungry for some delicious food. As soon as I
stepped inside, I was hit by a wave of noise that enveloped the entire space.
While I was there, I decided to indulge my taste buds and explore the diverse culinary offerings. I
walked from stall to stall, sampling mouthwatering dishes from various cuisines. The aroma of sizzling
meats, spices, and freshly baked goods filled the air, intensifying the sensory experience.
As I made my way through the market, I couldn't help but notice the constant chatter and laughter of
the people. Families gathered around communal tables, sharing stories and enjoying their meals

together. Friends huddled at counters, engaging in animated conversations over plates of tantalizing
street food. Vendors energetically promoted their products, luring passersby with enticing samples. It
was a lively atmosphere. It felt like a melting pot of cultures, with different languages and accents
blending together in a harmonious cacophony.
One of the reasons I consider the Grand Central Market a noisy place is the hustle and bustle of the
vendors and customers. The market is a hub of activity, with people jostling for space, bargaining prices,
and haggling with enthusiasm. The clatter of utensils, the sizzle of grills, and the sounds of knives
chopping ingredients all contribute to the vibrant symphony of noise.
It is an incredibly noisy place, but in the most delightful and exciting way. It's a sensory overload of
mouthwatering aromas, lively conversations, and culinary activity. The bustling atmosphere, combined

development and self-expression. Noise can be a manifestation of their energy and enthusiasm,
allowing them to explore and engage with the world around them. It fosters their creativity and

become excessive or disruptive. Teaching them to be mindful of their volume and surroundings is

Describe your favorite place in your house where you can relax
You should say:
Where it is
What it is like
What you enjoy doing there
And explain why you feel relaxed at this place
One of the most cherished spots in my house where I love to relax is my cozy reading nook. It's nestled
in a quiet corner of our living room, right next to a large window that offers a splendid view of our
beautiful garden.
The reading nook is like a small retreat. It has comfy cushions and a cozy armchair that supports my
back while I enjoy my favorite activity. The walls have shelves filled with books of all kinds, and there's a
soft, warm light coming from a nice floor lamp, creating a peaceful and inviting atmosphere.
What I love doing the most in this quiet spot is reading. Whether it's getting lost in a thrilling novel or
learning new things from non-fiction books, the reading nook is the perfect place for uninterrupted
reading. I can dive into captivating stories or expand my knowledge on different subjects, all while
feeling calm and relaxed.
The reason this place makes me feel so relaxed is because it helps me escape from the busyness of
everyday life and enter a peaceful state of mind. In the reading nook, I can disconnect from the outside
world and enjoy some solitude. The sound of turning pages, the faint smell of books, and the natural
light coming through the window all contribute to a soothing and refreshing experience.
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
Additionally, the reading nook offers a break from screens and technology. In our fast-paced society,
where we're constantly connected, it's refreshing to take a break from digital devices and enjoy the
simple pleasure of reading a physical book. It allows me to unwind and clear my mind, giving me the
opportunity to think, dream, and contemplate life. In summary, my favorite place to relax in my house
is my cozy reading nook. Its peaceful atmosphere, comfortable seating, and abundance of books create
the perfect setting for me to unwind and escape. It's a place where I can indulge in the joy of reading
and find comfort in the world of literature.

- contemplate: to consider one particular thing for a long time in a serious and quiet way
- indulge: to allow yourself or someone else to have something enjoyable
Part 3
1. Why is it difficult for some people to relax?
For certain individuals, finding relaxation can be an arduous task primarily due to the incessant
demands of their work or studies. In today's highly competitive and fast-paced world, many individuals
find themselves caught in a perpetual cycle of deadlines, targets, and responsibilities. The pressure to
excel and meet expectations can create a constant state of alertness, leaving little room for downtime
and relaxation. The workaholic culture prevalent in some professions further exacerbates this issue, as
individuals feel compelled to constantly strive for success and avoid any perception of laziness.
Consequently, the boundary between work and personal life becomes blurred, making it challenging to
detach and unwind.
- arduous: difficult, needing a lot of effort and energy
- perpetual: continuing for ever in the same way
- workaholic: a person who works a lot of the time
- detach: to separate or remove something from something else that it is connected to
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
In my country, exercising after work has become increasingly popular, as people are becoming more
aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Many individuals, despite their busy
schedules, make a conscious effort to engage in physical activities after work. Some prefer hitting the
gym or going for a jog to unwind and relieve stress. Others participate in group fitness classes or sports
activities, which not only promote physical fitness but also serve as a means of socializing and
networking.
- conscious effort: an effort etc that is deliberate and intended
- relieve: to make an unpleasant feeling, such as pain or worry, less strong
4. What is the place where people spend most of their time at home?
The living room is often the central hub of most households and the place where people spend the
majority of their time at home. It serves as a multipurpose space, accommodating various activities for
individuals and families alike. The living room is typically furnished with comfortable seating
arrangements, such as sofas and armchairs, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and entertainment.
It's where families gather to watch television, movies, or engage in lively conversations. Additionally,
the living room often houses entertainment systems, such as gaming consoles or music players,
providing a source of leisure and recreation. Overall, the living room acts as a social and recreational
space where people can unwind, connect with loved ones, and enjoy their free time.
- multipurpose: A multipurpose tool, etc. can be used in several different ways
- console: a piece of electronic equipment for playing computer games
- furnish: to put furniture in something
5. Do you think there should be classes for training young people and children how to relax?
No, I don't think there should be dedicated classes for training young people and children on how to
relax because relaxation is not a skill that can be explicitly taught or learned through formal instruction.
Relaxation is a subjective and personal experience that varies from individual to individual. It is more of
an innate ability that individuals develop and cultivate based on their own unique preferences and
circumstances. While techniques such as deep breathing exercises or mindfulness can be introduced
and practiced, it is ultimately up to each person to discover what works best for them in terms of
achieving relaxation. Furthermore, relaxation is not a one-size-fits-all concept. What may be relaxing
for one person could be stressful or unappealing to another.
- explicitly: in a way that is clear and exact
- one-size-fits-all: suitable for everyone or every purpose

Describe a place you visited where the air was polluted
You should say
Where the place is
When you visited it
Why the air was not good
And explain how you felt about the place
One place that I visited where the air was polluted was New Delhi, the capital city of India which is
infamous for having high levels of air pollution. The air quality there was just awful. I went in the
summer, and I was expecting the typical hot and humid weather, but the smog just made it unbearable.
I remember stepping off the plane and feeling like I was hit in the face with a wall of pollution. It was
thick and hazy, and I could barely breathe. The air quality in New Delhi is notoriously bad, and it's been
a problem for a while now. The main culprits are vehicular emissions, industrial pollution, and
construction dust. The city is home to over 20 million people, making it one of the most populated cities
in the world. This means there are a large number of vehicles on the road, which contributes to the air
pollution.
When I visited New Delhi, I was shocked by the level of air pollution. The air was thick with smog, and
there was a constant smell of smoke and exhaust fumes. I remember feeling short of breath and having
a headache from the polluted air. It was challenging to spend time outside as the air was so bad. I had a
mask with me, but even with the mask on, I could feel the smog getting to me. Honestly, I felt pretty
frustrated when I was there. I wanted to see all the sights and experience the city, but the pollution
made it hard to enjoy. I had a constant headache, and my throat was so sore from breathing in the
smog. It really put a damper on my trip. Despite the air pollution, I found New Delhi to be a fascinating
city with a rich history and culture. The food was amazing, and the people were incredibly friendly and
welcoming. It's really sad when you think about it because New Delhi is such a beautiful city with so
much to offer, but the pollution just ruins it.
- smog: a mixture of smoke, gases, and chemicals, especially in cities, that makes the atmosphere
difficult to breathe and harmful for health
- hazy: Hazy air or weather is not clear, especially because of heat
- culprit: a fact or situation that is the reason for something bad happening
- to be home to: to be a place where something is commonly found
- put a damper on: to make (something) less strong, active, or exciting
Part 3
1. Is there more pollution now than in the past?
Yes, unfortunately, there has been a significant escalation in pollution levels compared to the past. This
can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, the rapid industrialization and urbanization witnessed in
recent decades have resulted in a surge in pollution. The expansion of industries, manufacturing plants,
and infrastructure projects has led to increased emissions of pollutants such as greenhouse gases,
particulate matter, and toxic chemicals. Moreover, the ever-growing population and the corresponding
rise in energy consumption have intensified the demand for transportation, electricity, and goods
production, further exacerbating pollution.
- escalation: a situation in which something becomes greater or more serious
- industrialization: a situation in which something becomes greater or more serious
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- exacerbate: to make something that is already bad even worse
3. Do you think the city is cleaner or dirtier than the countryside? Why?
Generally, cities tend to be more polluted compared to the countryside. The concentration of
industries, heavy traffic, and dense population in cities contribute to higher pollution levels. The
emissions from factories, vehicles, and commercial activities, coupled with limited green spaces, result
in poorer air quality. In contrast, the countryside often enjoys cleaner air due to fewer sources of
pollution, a lesser density of human activities, and the presence of more green areas, which contribute
to natural air purification.
- couple with: to consider one thing along with or in addition to something else
- purification: the act of removing harmful substances from something

companies to reduce their environmental impact as part of their corporate social responsibility
initiatives. Consequently, many companies have taken proactive steps to minimize pollutants and
enhance their environmental performance.
- recognition: agreement that something is true or legal
- incentivize: to make someone want to do something
Well, there was this time when I taught my good friend Emily how to play the guitar. She had always
shown an interest in music, particularly the guitar, but she had never picked up an instrument before.
So, I thought it would be a great opportunity to share my love for music and help her out. I lent Emily
one of my spare acoustic guitars. I taught her the basics, you know, the fundamental chords and how
to position her fingers on the fretboard. We would sit side by side, with me demonstrating the chords
and strumming techniques, while she closely observed and tried to imitate my movements. I made sure
to break down each step into simple and understandable instructions, so she wouldn't feel
overwhelmed. I gave her time to practice and refine her skills for a few days before kicking things off
with some simple songs that used only a few chords, and as she got the hang of it, we progressed to
more complex arrangements.
To keep things interesting, I mixed in a few different teaching methods. We used online tutorials and
guitar apps that had cool visuals. It really helped her stay motivated and engaged. The result of our
guitar lessons was truly remarkable. Emily went from strumming her first chord with hesitation to
confidently playing entire songs within a few months. She put in a lot of effort and practice, and it really
paid off. We even had these fun jam sessions with our friends and family, where Emily would play and
show off her newfound skills. Personally, I felt incredibly fulfilled and happy throughout the whole
experience. It was so rewarding to see Emily's progress and witness her passion for music growing.
Teaching Emily how to play the guitar was truly a fantastic and enriching experience. I got to share my
love for music, see her develop as a musician, and understand the joy of teaching.

Describe a new development in the area where you live (e.g. shopping mall, park...)
You should say:
What and where the development is
What it was like before
How long it took to complete it
How people feel about it
And explain how it has improved the area you live in
Well, let me tell you about this remarkable new development that has completely transformed the area
where I live. It's called "Sky Plaza," and it's a massive shopping complex that has become the talk of the
town. Before Sky Plaza came into existence, our neighborhood had a rather dull and limited commercial
landscape. We had a few local shops scattered here and there, but nothing really noteworthy. If people
wanted a more extensive shopping experience or access to popular brands, they had to travel to the
nearby city. It was quite inconvenient. However, with the completion of Sky Plaza, everything has
changed for the better. The construction process of Sky Plaza was a grand undertaking that lasted for
around two years. The developers really put a lot of effort into ensuring every detail was perfect, from
the initial planning stages to the execution of the design, they left no stone unturned. The result is a
magnificent shopping complex that has become the pride of our neighborhood.
Since its opening, the response from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive. People are
thrilled to have such a fantastic shopping destination right on our doorstep. The plaza offers a wide
range of shopping options, catering to all tastes and preferences. From high-end international brands to

1. What transportation do you use the most?
Well, I primarily rely on public transportation for my daily commute. The convenience and affordability
of buses and trains make them my go-to options. They enable me to navigate through the bustling city
streets effortlessly. Besides, using public transport helps reduce traffic congestion and minimize my
carbon footprint, which is crucial for environmental sustainability. I occasionally use ride-sharing

5. Do you think young people in your country like going to the cinema?
Absolutely! Young people in my country have an immense love for cinema. Going to the movies is not
only a form of entertainment but also a social activity that allows them to bond with friends and family.
Cinemas offer an immersive experience with big screens, comfortable seating, and cutting-edge sound
systems, making it an appealing option for the younger generation. Furthermore, the diverse range of
movies, including local and international productions, caters to their varied tastes and interests. Many
cinemas also organize special screenings, premieres, and film festivals, which further attract young
audiences who are passionate about exploring the world of cinema.
- Immense: extremely large in size or degree
- Cutting-edge: modern
- Screening: a showing of a film
- Premiere: the first public performance of a play or any other type of entertainment
The historical period I would like to learn more about is World War II, one of the most devastating and
consequential conflicts in human history. The war was fought between two opposing sides: the Axis
powers, led by Germany, Italy, and Japan, and the Allied powers, consisting of the United States, Great
Britain, and the Soviet Union, among others. It began in 1939, when Germany invaded Poland, and
lasted for six long years until the Allied powers emerged victorious in 1945.
What interests me about this period is the complex geopolitical factors that led to the outbreak of war.
In addition to the geopolitical factors, I'm also interested in the military strategies and tactics that were
used during the war. The war saw a wide range of innovative military tactics that had a profound
impact on the course of the conflict. I'm also intrigued by the technological advancements that were
made during the war, such as the development of radar and jet engines, and how they changed the
nature of warfare forever.
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
Of course, I know quite a bit about World War II already, I have studied it in school and through
personal reading. However, I would like to learn more about the personal stories of individuals who
lived through the war. I believe that these stories are essential to understanding the human impact of
the conflict, and to gaining a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who fought and died
for freedom and justice. I'm particularly interested in the experiences of women and minorities during
the war, as their contributions are often overlooked in traditional historical narratives.
I believe that learning more about World War II is important because it helps us understand the causes
and consequences of conflict, and reminds us of the importance of diplomacy and international
cooperation in preventing future wars. By studying this period in greater depth, we can gain a better
understanding of the complex forces that shape our world, and work to build a more peaceful and just
society.
- Devastating: causing a lot of damage or destruction
- Consequential: happening as a result of something
- Geopolitical: connected with political activity as influenced by the physical features of a country or

- Sacrifice: to give up something that is valuable to you in order to help another person
- Diplomacy: the management of relationships between countries
- Just: fair; morally correct
Part 3
1. Should everyone know history?
Absolutely! Having a basic knowledge of history is essential for understanding the world we live in
today. Learning about the past helps us gain a better understanding of how societies have developed,
the lessons we can learn from the mistakes made in the past, and how we can build a better future for
ourselves and future generations. Knowing history is also crucial for developing critical thinking skills
and the ability to analyze information objectively. It's important to note that history is not just about
memorizing dates and facts, but about understanding the context and significance of events and the
people who shaped them.
- Analyze: to study or examine something in detail in order to discover or understand more about it
- Objective: based on real facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings:
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- Historical figure: people, situations, or things existed in the past and are considered to be a part of
history
- Hands-on: obtained by doing something, not by reading about it or by watching it done
3. What are the differences between learning history from books and from videos?
The main difference between learning history from books and videos is the level of engagement. While
books offer in depth knowledge and analysis, videos offer a more visual and immersive experience.
Videos can also make learning more accessible and easier to understand, particularly for younger
audiences. However, books offer more flexibility in terms of the pace of learning and the ability to
revisit the material, making them an excellent resource for students and scholars. Additionally, books
offer a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of historical events and figures, while videos
may provide a more simplified or selective version of history.
- Immersive: making people feel completely involved in something
- Comprehensive: complete and including everything that is necessary
- Nuance: a quality of something that is not easy to notice but may be important
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- Raise awareness: make something be known to the public
Let me tell you about this amazing picnic I had not too long ago. It was on a sunny Saturday afternoon,
just a few weeks back. I was craving some time in nature, so my friends and I decided to head to this
gorgeous park in the countryside. I picked a spot in the park that had a stunning view - green trees,
colorful flowers, and a peaceful lake. We actually took a lot of photos but the they don’t really do
justice to the wonderful scenery there. We're both outdoor enthusiasts, so we were excited to spend a
relaxing day surrounded by nature. We found the perfect spot under a massive oak tree and laid out
our blanket, which had a classic checkered pattern. Then, we unpacked the goodies we had brought. Let
me tell you, the food was mouthwatering! We had these gourmet sandwiches with succulent roasted
chicken, tangy sundried tomatoes, and creamy avocado sandwiched between fresh, crusty bread. And
the salads! They were bursting with flavor, dressed with a zesty lime vinaigrette that added a refreshing
kick. Of course, we couldn't forget the juicy, ripe fruits for a sweet finale.
As we dug into the food, the incredible scents filled the air, making us even hungrier. We savored each
bite, enjoying the explosion of flavors. The combination of good food, great company, and the beautiful
park surroundings made it a truly memorable picnic. We chatted, laughed, and shared stories as we
soaked up the warmth of the sun. The rustling of leaves and the chirping of birds created a soothing
soundtrack in the background. It was pure relaxation, away from the daily chaos. What made this picnic
so special was the simplicity of it all. Just being outdoors, enjoying good food, and spending quality time
with my dear friends. It reminded me of the importance of taking a break from the hustle and bustle of
life and appreciating the little moments of joy. In a world that's always rushing, this picnic allowed us to
slow down and appreciate the beauty of nature. It was a simple yet magical experience, filled with
laughter, good food, and cherished friendship.

1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of eating in restaurants?
On the upside, one of the major perks is the convenience it offers. Eating out saves time and effort in
meal preparation and cleaning up afterward. Additionally, restaurants provide an extensive array of
culinary options, allowing individuals to indulge in a diverse range of flavors and cuisines. However,
there are a few downsides to eating in restaurants. Firstly, dining out can be quite expensive, especially
in upscale establishments. The costs can quickly add up and put a strain on one's budget. Secondly,
restaurant meals may not always align with individual dietary preferences or health requirements.
Some people may find it challenging to adhere to specific dietary restrictions or control portion sizes
when eating out.
- Perk: an advantage or something extra

allows them to enjoy a change of scenery and experience the ambiance of a restaurant. It offers a break
from the routine of eating at home and provides a different atmosphere to savor their meal. The
restaurant setting, with its cozy or elegant decor, pleasant lighting, and background music, creates a
unique dining experience that cannot be replicated at home.
Additionally, dining out provides an opportunity for individuals to socialize and spend quality time with

Describe another city you would like to stay for a short time
You should say:
Where the city is
Why you want to go there
Whom you will go there with
What you will do there
And explain why you will stay there just for a short time
I would absolutely love to take my family to New York City. It's been on my bucket list for years, and I
think it would be an unforgettable experience to share with my loved ones. I would take my parents and
my younger sister along with me, and we would spend around a week in the city. I'm really excited to
show my family all the famous landmarks in New York. We'd definitely visit the Statue of Liberty and
take the ferry ride to Ellis Island to learn about American immigrant history. And, of course, we can't
miss the Empire State Building and Central Park. I think it would be amazing to take a stroll through the
park and enjoy a picnic on the lawn.
But there's so much more to New York than just its famous landmarks. One of the things I'm most
looking forward to is exploring the city's incredible culinary scene. We'll have to try some of the famous
New York-style pizza, hot dogs, and cheesecake. And I've heard there are some amazing bagel shops in
the city that we can't miss. I think it would be fun to do a food tour and sample all the different cuisines
that New York has to offer. Another thing we'll have to do is take a walk around Times Square. It's
famous for its vibrant lights and bustling energy. I think my sister will be especially excited about that.
And while we're there, we might as well catch a Broadway show, too. I've always wanted to see a show
in New York, and I think my family will love it. There's also a beautiful coastal town just a few hours
from the city, and I think it would be a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of New York. We
could spend the day lounging on the beach and exploring the town. Of course, we won't be able to see
everything in New York in just a week. But we'll try to make the most of our time there and create some
unforgettable memories. However, we'll have to keep our stay short because we all have other
obligations back home.
- Bucket list: a list of things one wants to do before they die
- Landmark: a building or place that is easily recognized
- Immigrant: person who has come to a different country in order to live there permanently
- Culinary scene: cuisine
- Lounge: to stand or sit in a relaxed way
- Obligation: something that you must do
Part 3
1. Why do people sometimes go to other cities or other countries to travel?
People travel to other cities or countries for a variety of reasons. One of the primary reasons is to
experience different cultures and customs. Traveling can be a great way to broaden one's horizons and
gain new perspectives. Another reason is to take a break from the routine and monotony of daily life.
Traveling can provide a refreshing change of scenery and offer opportunities for adventure and
excitement. Some people also travel to escape from stress or to seek new experiences and create
memories. Overall, travel can be a transformative and enriching experience that can change one's
perspective on the world and lead to lifelong memories
- monotony: a situation in which something stays the same and is therefore boring
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- transformative: causing a major change to something or someone, especially in a way that is good
3. Why do places with historical sites develop tourism industry more actively?
Places with historical sites often develop tourism industry more actively for a variety of reasons. One
major factor is that historical sites and landmarks are often the most prominent and iconic attractions
in a city or region. They draw visitors from all over the world, who come to see and experience the
history and culture of the place. Moreover, historical sites are often associated with cultural heritage
and national pride, which makes them valuable assets for promoting tourism. Many governments
recognize the economic potential of tourism and invest in the preservation and promotion of historical
sites and landmarks. By promoting cultural tourism, cities and regions with historical sites and
landmarks can also provide employment opportunities, create jobs in many areas and contribute to the
local economy.
- prominent: very well known and important
- preservation: the act of keeping something the same or of preventing it from being damaged
4. Do you think tourists may come across bad things in other cities?
Yes, they may be targeted by criminals or scam artists who prey on tourists. In many popular tourist
destinations, there are people who specialize in scamming tourists out of their money or belongings.
They may approach tourists with sob stories or offer them fake goods or services, only to disappear
with their money or valuables. Moreover, tourists may also be affected by natural disasters or other
unforeseen events, such as political unrest or terrorist attacks. These events can cause disruption to
travel plans and pose a risk to the safety of tourists.

- Disruption: an interruption in the usual way that a system, process, or event works
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
5. Do most people like planned travelling?
The preference for planned or unplanned travel can vary greatly among individuals. Some people may
prefer planned travel because it provides a sense of security and predictability. If someone is traveling
to a new and unfamiliar destination, they may feel more comfortable with a planned itinerary that
includes pre-booked accommodations and tours. Others may prefer unplanned travel because it allows
for more spontaneity and flexibility. They enjoy the thrill of not knowing what they will be doing or
where they will be staying, and find that this kind of travel is more adventurous and exciting. They also
enjoy the challenge of figuring things out on the fly and adapting to unexpected situations.
- Itinerary: a detailed plan or route of a journey
- Accommodation: a place to stay or live
- Spontaneity: the quality of being natural rather than planned in advance
6. Why is the noise pollution worse in tourism cities than in other cities?
Noise pollution in tourism cities is often worse than in other cities because of the high number of
tourists and vehicles. In these locations, there may be an influx of people walking, talking, and engaging
in other activities, particularly during peak season, which can lead to overcrowding and noise.
Moreover, many of the activities in tourism cities, such as live music performances or street festivals,
are designed to be loud and attention-grabbing, which can contribute to the overall noise pollution.
Additionally, tourism cities have more traffic and transportation noise due to the higher volume of cars,
buses, and taxis. This can make it difficult for tourists to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the
city.
- influx: the fact of a large number of people or things arriving at the same time
- attention-grabbing: attracting people's notice
- volume: the number or amount of something in general
Describe a time when you missed or were late for an important meeting/event
You should say:
When it happened
What happened
Why you missed/were late for it
And explain how you felt about this experience
Let me tell you about a time when I missed a final exam, and it was a real ordeal. It happened during my
last semester at university when I was studying psychology. The exam was the grand finale of the
course, and it carried significant weight in my final grade. It was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on a Monday,
and I had diligently prepared for it for weeks. Unfortunately, on that fateful morning, everything
seemed to go wrong. My alarm didn't go off, and I ended up oversleeping. When I finally woke up, I
panicked upon realizing that I was already an hour late for the exam. I rushed to get ready in record
time, barely managing to brush my teeth and put on some clothes. As I made my way to the exam hall,
my mind was filled with regret and anxiety. It felt like everything was crumbling down.
When I arrived at the exam hall, my heart sank as I saw the doors closed and the strict invigilator
standing guard. I pleaded with him to let me in, explaining what had happened, but he was unwavering.
He said that rules were rules, and latecomers were not allowed under any circumstances. I felt a
profound sense of disappointment and frustration with myself. I had put in so much effort and
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
dedication throughout the semester and studied diligently. And now, due to a simple oversight, it
seemed like all my hard work was in vain.
The experience taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of being organized and prepared. I
realized that I needed to set multiple alarms and have a backup plan in case one failed. It also made me
more aware of the consequences of being careless with time management. While it was a tough pill to
swallow, the experience made me become more vigilant and disciplined, I was then always well-
prepared and punctual for important events. But still I had to retake that class.
- Ordeal: a very unpleasant and painful or difficult experience
- Fateful: having an important and usually negative effect on the future
- Crumble down: to fall into small pieces or break down completely

- Vigilant: always being careful to notice things
- Disciplined: behaving in a very controlled way
Part 3
1. Are you a punctual person?
I consider myself a highly punctual person. This trait has been ingrained in me since childhood, and I
have always prioritized being on time for any commitments I make. I believe that punctuality is not only
a sign of respect for others' time but also an indication of a person's level of responsibility and
professionalism. For me, being punctual is more than just showing up on time; it's about being
prepared, organized, and ready to engage in any task or conversation at hand.
- Ingrain: to establish something such as a belief so firmly that it is not likely to change
- Commitment: something that you must do or deal with that takes your time

striving to improve in this regard.
- Concerned: involved in something or affected by it
- Minimized: to reduce something to the least possible level or amount
- Striving: to try very hard for a long time or against difficulties
6. Do you think people are born with time management skills or they can develop them?
You see, effective time management is not something that we are inherently born with, like a fixed
trait. It's more like a skill that can be learned and improved over time. Sure, some people might have a
head start in terms of having a natural inclination towards structure and organization, and people
naturally seem to have better time management skills, you know, like they're just really organized and
good at juggling tasks, but that doesn't mean others can't develop these skills as well. For the most
part, I believe time management skills can be developed. It takes practice and discipline. By setting
priorities, creating schedules, and finding strategies that work for you, anyone can improve their time
management abilities.
- Inherent: existing as a natural or basic part of something
- A head start: an advantage granted or gained at the beginning of something
- Juggle: to try to do two or more jobs or activities at the same tim

Describe something you did that made you feel proud
You should say:
What it was
How you did it
What difficulty you had
How you dealt with the difficulty
And explain why you felt proud of it
When I think about something that made me feel proud, the first thing that comes to mind is the time I
completed a really challenging hiking trail last summer. The trail was known for its steep inclines, rocky
terrain, and unpredictable weather. To prepare for the hike, I did a lot of research on the trail and the
surrounding area. I read several blogs and forums to get an idea of what to expect, and I made a list of
all the necessary gear I would need, like a first aid kit, extra food and water, and proper hiking boots. I
also talked to a few people who had done the trail before to get some tips and advice. On the day of the
hike, I woke up early and drove to the starting point with a friend who was also interested in hiking. We
were both excited but a little nervous too, since we knew the trail was going to be challenging. As we
began the hike, I quickly realized that it was going to be much more difficult than I had anticipated. The
trail was extremely steep and rocky, and there were several moments where I felt like giving up.
However, I reminded myself of my goal and pushed through the difficulty.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was the unpredictable weather. We had checked the forecast
before starting the hike, but as we got higher up, the weather started changing rapidly. It started
raining halfway through the hike, and the wind picked up, making it difficult to maintain balance on the
slippery rocks. But I didn't let the weather get the best of me. I put on a rain jacket and adjusted my
pace to ensure that I was being safe. After several hours of hiking, we finally reached the summit. The
view was breathtaking and I felt a huge sense of accomplishment knowing that I had completed such a
challenging hike. We took a lot of pictures and just sat there, taking in the view and enjoying the
moment. Looking back, I realize that completing that hike was not just about physical fitness or
endurance, but also about mental strength and determination. It was a moment that I will never forget,
and I'm really proud of myself for pushing through the difficulty and reaching the summit.
- Terrain: an area of land, when considering its natural features
- Unpredictable: likely to change suddenly and without reason and therefore not able to be predicted

1. Which one is more important, personal goals or work goals?
Personal and work goals are both important aspects of an individual's life, and they are often
interconnected. Personal goals are related to an individual's life outside of work, such as personal
growth, relationships, health, and hobbies. These goals can bring a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment
to one's life, and they can help individuals maintain a healthy work life balance. On the other hand,
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
work goals are necessary for professional growth and success, they can lead to job satisfaction and
financial stability. Meeting or exceeding work goals can result in positive feedback from colleagues or
supervisors, recognition, promotions, or other forms of career advancement. It is important to strike a
balance between personal and work goals in order to achieve overall well being. Overemphasizing one
over the other can lead to feelings of stress, burnout, or dissatisfaction.
- Interconnect: to connect with or be related to each other
- Stability: the state of being firmly fixed or not likely to move or change:
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- Classify: to divide things or people into groups according to their type
- Intrinsic: being an extremely important and basic characteristic of a person or thing
- Extrinsic: coming from outside a particular person or thing
- Enhance: to improve the quality, amount, or strength of something
5. Do you think material rewards are more important than other rewards at work?
Material rewards are often seen as important motivators for employees in the workplace. But while
material rewards are important in providing employees with financial stability and security, they may
not be enough to motivate employees to perform at their best. In fact, research has shown that once
employees' basic financial needs are met, other factors, such as job satisfaction, work life balance, and
opportunities for growth and development become more important in promoting long term
engagement and retention. It is important for organizations to provide a balanced mix of material and
non material rewards to their employees. This can include providing competitive compensation
packages, bonuses, and other financial incentives, as well as a positive work environment that values
collaboration and teamwork.
- Material rewards: reward related to possessions or money
Well, as a student, my daily routine is pretty structured. I find that having a routine helps me to stay
organized and on top of my responsibilities. So, I usually wake up around 6 a m and have a quick
breakfast before starting my day. I like to start my day by reviewing my notes and studying for
upcoming exams. I find that I am more focused and alert in the morning, so it's a good time for me to
tackle challenging material. I try to break down my study sessions into smaller intervals and take breaks
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
in between to avoid burnout. After a few hours of studying, I go to school, which usually starts in the
late morning. During class, I take notes and participate in class discussions. I find that active
participation helps me to better understand the course material and retain the information. After that, I
take a short break and grab lunch with my friends. We usually go to a nearby café or restaurant to catch
up and relax for a bit. Then, I head back to the library to continue studying and working on assignments.
I try to stay focused and productive during this time, as it's easy to get distracted when studying alone.
Sometimes, I'll study with a group of classmates, which can be helpful for discussing difficult concepts
and sharing study strategies.
In the evenings, I like to engage in some form of physical activity such as going for a run or hitting the
gym. This helps me to relieve stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. After that, I have dinner and spend
some time relaxing, watching a movie or reading a book. I find that winding down in the evenings helps
me to sleep better and be more productive the following day. Before going to bed, I like to review my
schedule and plan out my tasks for the following day. I also try to get a good night's sleep, as it's crucial
for mental and physical well-being. So, that's my daily routine as a student. It may sound a bit
regimented, but I find that it helps me to stay on track and achieve my goals.
- Structured: having a clear structure
- Stay on top of: to remain completely in control of, aware about, or on schedule with something
- Alert: quick to see, understand, and act in a particular situation
- Interval: a period between two events or times
- Retain: to keep or continue to have something
- Distract: to make someone stop giving their attention to something
- Wind down: to gradually relax
- Regimented: too organized and controlled
Part 3
1. Should children have learning routines?
I think establishing a consistent learning routine is absolutely essential for children, especially during
their formative years. By doing so, children can develop good habits, like prioritizing their studies and
managing their time effectively, which are essential skills for success later in life. Parents and educators
need to work together to establish routines that are both realistic and age-appropriate for the child. For
example, a young child might need a more structured routine with specific times set aside for reading,
playing, and napping. An older child, on the other hand, might be able to handle a more flexible routine
that allows for more autonomy and self-direction.
- Formative years: the early stages of childhood (0-8 years) where children learn more quickly than at
any other time
- Realistic: having or showing a practical awareness of things as they are
- Self-direction: the ability to make choices independent of others and manage our actions and lives
without others’ influence
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
children know what's expected of them and have a set schedule to follow, they are more likely to take
ownership of their studies and other activities
- Consistent: always behaving or happening in a similar, especially positive, way
- Procrastinate: to keep delaying something that must be done
- Take ownership of: take responsibility for an idea or problem
6. What are the differences between people's daily routines now and in the last 15 years?
Over the last 15 years, many factors have contributed to changes in people's daily routines. The rise of
technology and the increasing prevalence of remote work, for example, have both had a significant
impact on the way people structure their days. One major change has been the blurring of boundaries
between work and home life. With the ability to work remotely and stay connected to work-related
communication channels 24 7, many people now find it harder to disconnect and establish clear
boundaries between work and personal time. In addition, the rise of social media and technologies has
led to an increase in time spent on screens. This has resulted in less time being spent on other activities,
such as reading books, pursuing hobbies, or engaging in face-to-face social interactions.
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- Prevalence: the fact that something is very common or happens often
- Blur: to make the difference between two things less clear
Describe a complaint that you made and you were satisfied with the result
you should say:
when it happened
who you complained to
what you complained about
and explain why you were satisfied with the result
Well, I can recall an instance where I made a complaint to a restaurant that I was actually satisfied with
the result of. I went to a highly-rated Italian eatery with some friends for dinner. We were all excited to
try the restaurant's menu, which had received great reviews online. Everyone was talking about it at
that time. So we went there to see what all the hype was about. We were really looking forward to it,
but when our food arrived, it was a complete letdown. We were disappointed to find that it was
overcooked, lacked flavor, and just didn't look appetizing. The steak we ordered was tough and dry, and
the sides were bland and uninspiring. The pasta was overcooked and stuck together, the sauce was too
salty, and the portion sizes were much smaller than we expected. We felt like we had wasted our
money on such a subpar meal. After talking it over, we decided to complain to the server, he was very
understanding and brought the manager over to our table to hear us out. We explained the issues with
our meals and how it didn't meet our expectations given the restaurant's reputation. The manager was
very attentive and apologized for our disappointing experience, and offered to bring us new plates of
pasta with different sauces that might suit our tastes better. And he also offered to have our steaks
replaced with new dishes cooked to our preferences. The replacement dishes were much better, and
we were satisfied with the way the restaurant had responded to our complaint. What really stood out
was that the manager went above and beyond to make it up to us. He offered us complimentary
desserts and drinks, and even gave us a discount on our bill. He was attentive and responsive to our
concerns, and took immediate action to make things right. He showed that he valued our satisfaction as
customers and was committed to delivering a high-quality dining experience. As a result, we left the
restaurant feeling satisfied and even recommended it to our friends

So, when my parents surprised me with a brand new iPhone as a birthday gift, I was completely taken
aback and totally stoked. I had been using an old and outdated phone for years, and had been hinting
to my parents for a while that I wanted an upgrade. But I never expected them to actually go ahead and
buy me a new phone, especially not one as expensive as an iPhone. I remember unwrapping the gift
and feeling like a kid again. It was definitely a moment of disbelief, and I had to pinch myself to make
sure it wasn't a dream! It was the newest iPhone at the time, with all the latest features like a high
quality camera and a sleek, modern design. I was so excited to start using it, and I couldn't believe that
my parents had gone to such lengths to make me happy. I'm a bit of a tech enthusiast, so I had been
lusting after the latest iPhone model for ages, but couldn't justify the cost to myself. As I held the phone

in my hand, I felt this rush of excitement and joy. It was a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment that I
had been wanting for such a long time.
One thing that made the gift even more special was that my parents aren't usually the type to splurge
on expensive things. They always taught me the value of hard work and saving money, so I knew that
this was something truly special. It meant a lot to me that they had listened to what I wanted and had
gone above and beyond to make it happen. Since receiving the iPhone, I've used it every single day. It's
become an integral part of my life, I use it to make calls, take photos and keep track of my schedule. I'm
constantly discovering new features and ways to use it, and I always think back to the day my parents
gave it to me with so much love and affection. All in all, that birthday gift was one of the most

1. Should employees have their own goals?
Yes, I believe employees should have their own goals. When employees have personal goals, it helps
them to stay motivated and focused on their work. This, in turn, can lead to better performance and
increased job satisfaction. Moreover, individual goals can also align with the overall organizational
goals and contribute to the success of the company. For instance, an employee who aims to improve
their public speaking skills can help the company in delivering presentations and pitches to clients.
- Job satisfaction: a feeling of fulfillment or enjoyment that a person has from their job
- Pitch: a speech that attempts to persuade someone to buy or do something

Describe something that you did with someone/a group of people
You should say:
What it was
Who you did it with
How long it took you to do this
And explain why you did it together
I’m gonna talk about group study sessions I had with my classmates for our math final exam. We knew
it was going to be a challenging one, so we decided to form a study group to tackle the complex
concepts together. There were four of us in the group, including me. We were all taking the same math
course and wanted to do well in the final exam. We had different strengths, which turned out to be
really helpful in our study sessions. We dedicated a good chunk of time each day for a couple of weeks
to study together. We would meet up at the library or sometimes at someone's house. We wanted to
make sure we covered all the topics and clarified any doubts we had.
During our study sessions, we used various resources like textbooks, lecture notes, and online tutorials.
We also made use of mathematical software and graphing calculators to solve complex equations and
visualize concepts. It made things much easier and more interactive. The main reason we chose to
study as a group was to tap into each other's knowledge and problem-solving techniques. We would
take turns explaining difficult concepts and solving problems together. It was really beneficial because
we could learn from each other and see different approaches to solving the same problem. Studying in
a group also created a supportive environment. Whenever someone had a question or got stuck on a
problem, we would all pitch in and try to figure it out together. It made studying less daunting and
more enjoyable. By studying together, we were able to keep each other motivated and accountable.
We set goals, tracked our progress, and celebrated small victories along the way. It helped us stay
focused and relieved some of the exam stress. In the end, our group study sessions paid off. We felt
more confident going into the final exam and ended up achieving good results. The collaborative effort
and the support we gave each other truly made a difference in our understanding of the math concepts.
So, yeah, studying in a group for the math final exam was a fantastic decision. It made the whole
studying process more interactive, less overwhelming, and ultimately led to our success in the exam.

1. How do you get along with your neighbors?
In general, I get along quite well with my neighbors. We have established a cordial and friendly
relationship over time, which I believe is essential for fostering a sense of community. We often engage
in casual conversations and exchange pleasantries whenever we bump into each other. Occasionally,
we organize small gatherings or neighborhood events to strengthen the bond among us. This positive
rapport makes living in our neighborhood much more enjoyable.
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- Cordial: friendly, but formal and polite:
- Casual: not formal, serious or considered, or done by chance
- Pleasantry: a polite and often slightly humorous remark
3. Do you think neighbors help each other more often in the countryside than in the city?
You know, it really depends on the specific neighborhood and the people who live there, rather than
whether it's in the countryside or the city. While it's true that rural communities often have a stronger
sense of community, it's not a hard and fast rule. In some tight-knit urban neighborhoods, where
residents have developed close relationships, neighbors are just as likely to lend each other a hand. So,
it's more about the community spirit and the individual connections rather than the geographical
location.
- Hard and fast: fixed, not to be changed
- Tight-knit: closely connected
- Resident: a person who lives or has their home in a place
5. Do you think parents should teach children how to cooperate with others? How?
Absolutely! I strongly believe that parents play a crucial role in teaching children how to cooperate with
others. They are the primary influencers in their children's lives and can shape their values and social
skills. One effective way for parents to encourage cooperation is by setting a positive example
themselves and promoting a cooperative mindset within the family. They can involve children in
household chores, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and sharing responsibilities. By guiding,
modeling, and offering opportunities for practice, parents can effectively instill the value of cooperation
in their children.
- Set an example: to behave in a way that other people should copy:

- Instill: to put a feeling, idea, or principle gradually into someone's mind
Describe a piece of good news that you heard about someone you know well
You should say:
What it was
When you heard it
How you knew it
And explain how you felt about it
The piece of good news that I recently heard was about my close friend, Alex, who achieved a
remarkably high band score in the IELTS test. I first heard about this news just last week when Alex
excitedly called me to share the incredible achievement. He had received his test results and discovered
that he had scored an overall band score of 8.5. It was a truly remarkable accomplishment and a
momentous occasion for him. As for how I knew about it, Alex and I have been close friends for many
years, and we have always supported each other in our academic pursuits. We often discuss our goals
and ambitions, so it was natural for him to share this great news with me. I remember vividly the tone
of his voice filled with joy and enthusiasm when he broke the news over the phone. Regarding how I felt
about it, I was absolutely thrilled and overjoyed for Alex. I know how diligently he had been preparing
for the IELTS test, and to see his hard work pay off in such an impressive manner was truly inspiring. I
felt a strong sense of pride for my friend and couldn't help but share in his excitement. It was a moment
of celebration and validation for his dedication, perseverance, and determination. Moreover, I felt
motivated and encouraged by Alex's achievement. Witnessing someone close to me succeed in a
challenging endeavor like the IELTS test reassured me that with the right amount of effort and
commitment, I too could achieve my goals. Alex's success served as a reminder that hard work and
determination can lead to remarkable outcomes, and it instilled in me a renewed sense of motivation
to pursue my own dreams. Overall, hearing about my friend Alex's exceptional band score in the IELTS
test was a moment of great joy and inspiration for both of us. It strengthened our friendship and fueled
our aspirations to strive for success.

1. Is it good to share something on social media?
Sharing content on social media can have both positive and negative impacts. On one hand, it allows
individuals to share information, news, and personal experiences with their friends and followers. This
can help people stay connected and engaged with others, especially when they are physically apart.
However, there are also potential risks and drawbacks to sharing content on social media. For instance,
people should be mindful of the privacy implications of sharing personal information, as it can be used
to harm or exploit them. Moreover, sharing false or misleading information can perpetuate harmful
myths and contribute to the spread of misinformation.

way to reinforce our own positive beliefs and values. For instance, if a friend shares news about a
personal achievement, it can inspire us to pursue our own goals and aspirations. It can also be a
reminder that good things are possible and that we have a support network to turn to when we need it.
- Camaraderie: a feeling of friendliness towards people that you work or share an experience with
Describe an activity you enjoyed in your free time when you were young
You should say:
What it was
Where you did it
Who you did it with
And explain why you enjoyed it
As a child, I had a number of hobbies and interests. However, one activity that stood out above the rest
was playing board games with my family. One board game in particular that I enjoyed playing was
Monopoly. It is a classic board game that involves buying and selling properties, collecting rent, and
trying to bankrupt your opponents. It's a game that requires a lot of strategy and critical thinking, which
is why I found it so engaging. Whenever we played Monopoly, we would usually set up the board game
on our dining table at home. My parents, younger brother, and I would all gather around the table, each
of us with our own unique game piece. We would then roll the dice and take turns moving our pieces
around the board, trying to collect as much money and property as possible. The aspect of Monopoly
that I enjoyed was the opportunity to negotiate with my opponents. Since the game involves buying
and selling properties, there was always a chance to strike a deal with another player. This required me
to think creatively and come up with persuasive arguments to convince the other player to agree to my
terms. It was a great way to practice my negotiation skills and build my confidence in social situations.
Playing Monopoly with my family was also a great way to bond with them. We would often joke and
tease each other during the game, which helped to break down any barriers and create a relaxed, fun
atmosphere. We would also discuss our strategies and share tips with each other, which helped us all
improve our game. It was a wonderful way to spend quality time together as a family. Looking back on
those childhood days, I'm grateful for the memories I have of playing board games with my family. Even
now, as an adult, I still enjoy playing board games with my friends and family. It's a great way to unwind
and connect with the people I care about.
- Property: objects that belong to someone
- Rent: a fixed amount of money that you pay regularly for the use of a room, house, car, television,
etc. that someone else own
- Bankrupt: not having enough money to pay your debts
- Strike a deal: to come to an agreement
- Convince: to cause someone to believe something or to do something
Part 3
1. Is it important to have a break during work or study?
Taking regular breaks during work or study is crucial for maintaining productivity and preventing
burnout. Many people believe that pushing themselves to work or study for hours on end is the best
way to achieve their goals, but this can actually be counterproductive. Engaging in a task for an
extended period can lead to mental fatigue and decreased focus, which can negatively impact
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
performance. By taking breaks, you can refresh your mind and give yourself time to rest, which can
improve concentration and focus when you return to your work. Therefore, it's highly recommended to
incorporate short breaks into your work or study routine and use them to recharge and refocus.
- Burnout: the state of having no energy or enthusiasm because of working too hard
- Counterproductive: having an effect that is opposite to the one intended or wanted
- Fatigue: extreme tiredness
- Incorporate: to include something as part of something larger
3. Are there more activities for young people now than 20 years ago?
Yes, there are definitely more activities for young people now than there were 20 years ago. There are
new industries and businesses that cater specifically to young people, such as indoor trampoline parks,
escape rooms, and virtual reality gaming centers. Additionally, there has been a growing emphasis on
youth development and education, with many schools and community organizations offering
extracurricular activities and programs designed to engage and challenge young people. There is no
doubt that young people today have more options than ever before when it comes to activities and
hobbies.
- virtual reality (VR): computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment

like coding and robotics. Many schools also offer extracurricular activities like music, drama, and debate
clubs, which can help children develop a variety of skills and interests. While some adults enjoy
traditional hobbies like reading or gardening, others may participate in team sports leagues or join
fitness classes at their local gym.
- A plethora of: a lot of
- League: a group of teams playing a sport who take part in competitions between each other
6. Do adults and children have enough time for leisure activities nowadays?
It really depends on the individual and their lifestyle. Some people may have more free time than
others, or may be better at managing their time to make room for leisure activities. However, with the
demands of work and school, it can be difficult for some people to find time for leisure activities. It's
important to prioritize self-care and make time for activities that bring joy and relaxation, even if it's
just for a short period each day. This may involve setting boundaries with work or school commitments,
and being intentional about how free time is spent.
- Make room for: to create space, time for new objects or things do be done
- Find time for: have enough time for sth
The website that I often visit is Goodreads. Goodreads is a social cataloging website that allows users to
search and review books, as well as connect with other readers. I found out about it through a friend
who is an avid reader, and I have been using it for several years now.
I visit Goodreads almost daily, especially when I'm looking for book recommendations or want to see
what others are reading. I find it very user-friendly and it has a lot of features that make it a useful tool
for book lovers.
One of the features that I really like about Goodreads is the ability to create and organize shelves. I can
create shelves for books that I've read, books that I want to read, and books that I'm currently reading. I
also like that I can rate and review books on the site, as well as see what other people have rated and
reviewed.
Another feature that I find very useful is the reading challenge. Goodreads has an annual reading
challenge where users can set a goal for how many books they want to read that year. I find this feature
very motivating and it encourages me to read more.
Goodreads also has a feature called "Ask the Author" where users can ask questions to authors of books
that they have read. I find this feature very interesting and it allows me to get insights into the author's
thought process and inspiration.
In addition to these features, Goodreads also has a vibrant community of book lovers. There are groups
for all kinds of interests, genres, and book clubs. I find it very easy to connect with people who have
similar reading interests and to get involved in various discussions and activities.
Overall, I think Goodreads is a great website for book lovers. It has a lot of features that make it a useful
tool for organizing and discovering books, as well as connecting with other readers.

1. What are the most popular and least popular apps in your country?
Well, in my country, there are numerous popular apps, but I would say the ones that top the list are
social media apps such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. These apps are used by people of all ages
to connect with their friends and family, share their lives, and keep up with the latest trends. However,
the least popular apps are the ones that cater to niche interests or have limited functionality, making
them less appealing to the general public. For example, productivity apps such as time management
tools or note-taking apps may have a smaller user base compared to social media apps, as they serve a
more specific purpose.
- Numerous: a lot of
- Niche: interesting to, aimed at, or affecting only a small number of people
- Specific: relating to one thing and not others; particular
3. Why do some people like to read the news on the internet instead of getting it from TV?
Firstly, the internet provides a wider range of news sources and viewpoints compared to the limited
options available on TV. While TV news is typically delivered by a few major networks or channels, the
internet allows people to access news from a variety of sources, including independent media outlets
and citizen journalism platforms. Secondly, reading the news on the internet allows people to consume
it at their own pace and convenience. While TV news is scheduled at specific times, people can access
news on the internet anytime, anywhere, and on any device. This makes it easier for people to keep up
with the latest news and events without having to rearrange their schedules.
- Outlet: an organization that broadcasts programmes or publishes news
- Journalism: the work of collecting, writing, and publishing news stories and articles in newspapers
and magazines
- Rearrange: to change the order, position, or time of arrangements already made
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
4. Is the library still necessary? Why?
Yes, I believe the library is still necessary, even in today's digital age. While the internet has made
information more accessible than ever before, it also contains a vast amount of misinformation and
unreliable sources. Libraries, on the other hand, provide access to verified and credible information
that has been vetted by trained professionals. They also offer a quiet and conducive environment for
learning, which can be helpful for those who need to focus and concentrate. Furthermore, libraries
provide access to resources that may not be available online, such as rare and out-of-print books,
academic journals, and historical documents.
- Misinformation: wrong information; information intended to deceive
- Unreliable: not able to be trusted or believed
- Verify: to make certain or prove that something is true or accurate
- Vet: to examine something or someone carefully to make certain that they are acceptable or
suitable
- Credible: able to be believed or trusted
5. What kinds of people would still go to the library to read and study?
People of all ages and backgrounds still go to the library to read and study, but there are certain groups
who may be more likely to use library services. For example, students of all ages, from elementary
school to university, often rely on libraries for access to research materials and a quiet study space.
Additionally, older adults who may not have access to the internet or prefer print materials may also
use libraries to access books and other resources. In general, people who value learning, reading, and
access to credible information are likely to use libraries as a resource.
- Rely on: to depend on or trust someone or something
6. What are the differences between old people and young people when they use the Internet?
There are several differences between how old people and young people use the internet. For one,
younger people tend to be more tech-savvy and comfortable with using technology, while older people
may be less familiar with the latest digital tools and platforms. Moreover, older people may be more
cautious and wary of sharing personal information online, while younger people may be more open to
sharing information and engaging with others online. This may be due to differences in how these
generations were raised and their experiences with technology and privacy.
- Cautious: not acting quickly in order to avoid risks; careful
- Wary: not completely trusting or certain about something or someone

what it is
how you would like to learn it
why you would like to learn it
and explain whether it’s difficult to learn it
You know what, one of the things I really want to learn in the future is how to play the piano. I've
always been blown away by the sound of it and the beautiful melodies that can be created. It's an
incredibly versatile instrument that can evoke emotions and feelings that words cannot express. So, my
plan to learn how to play the piano would start with finding a really competent and experienced piano
teacher. I think it's important to have someone who can guide me through the basics and give me
feedback on how I'm doing. But, I would also like to use online resources like video tutorials and sheet
music to practice and improve at my own pace. Learning the piano is by no means an easy feat. There
are a lot of challenges that come with learning a new instrument, including mastering hand-eye
coordination, finger placement, memorizing notes, and building finger dexterity. It's definitely gonna
take some time and effort to get a good grasp of it, but I'm willing to put in the work and practice
consistently to get better.
I think one of the best parts of learning the piano is just the sense of accomplishment that comes with
it. When you finally can play a piece of music you've been working on for weeks, it's such an amazing
feeling. There's so much great music out there that I'd love to be able to play someday. And, it would be
really cool to be able to improvise and create my own music too. I think being able to express myself
creatively through music would be a huge accomplishment. Honestly, I think learning how to play the
piano would be such a great way to relax and unwind after a long day. It's like therapy for the soul, you
know? All in all, I'm really looking forward to starting my piano journey and seeing where it takes me.
It's definitely not gonna be easy, but I'm excited to push myself and see what I'm capable of!

One popular thing to learn nowadays is a foreign language. With globalization, it has become
increasingly important for individuals to be able to communicate effectively with people from different
cultures and backgrounds. Learning a foreign language can also provide many opportunities for
personal and professional growth. For example, being fluent in a language other than one's native
language can open doors to international business opportunities or career advancements in the global
job market. Additionally, learning a foreign language can be a fulfilling and enriching experience,
allowing individuals to better understand and appreciate different cultures.

2. At what age should children start making their own decisions? Why?
Children should start making their own decisions around the age of 12, as this is when they begin to
develop more advanced cognitive skills, including critical thinking and problem-solving. By allowing
children to make decisions for themselves, parents can help foster their independence and build their
self-confidence. For example, allowing a child to choose their own clothes or decide on extracurricular
activities can help them feel more in control of their own lives. However, it is important for parents to
provide guidance and support as children make decisions, especially when it comes to more significant
choices like education and career.
- Cognitive: relating to or involving the processes of thinking and reasoning
- Provide guidance: to help and give advice
3. Which influences young people more when choosing a course, income or interest?
While income is a factor that many young people consider when choosing a course, interest tends to
have a greater influence. This is because most young people want to pursue a career that aligns with
their passions and interests, as they believe that this will lead to greater job satisfaction and fulfillment.
Additionally, many students are willing to invest time and resources into pursuing their interests, even if
it may not guarantee a high income. However, this does not mean that income is not important. Many
students also consider the earning potential of their chosen field when making their decision, especially
if they have financial responsibilities or debts to repay.
- Guarantee: to promise that something will be done or will happen
- Debt: something, especially money, that is owed to someone else

Describe a piece of technology you own that you feel is difficult to use
you should say:
When you got it
what you got it for
how often do you use it
and explain how you feel about it
Well, the piece of technology that comes to mind is my smartwatch, which I bought about a year ago. I
got it mainly for fitness tracking purposes, as I wanted to monitor my daily activity levels and set fitness
goals for myself. I thought it would be a great way to stay on top of my messages, calls, and emails
while on the go without having to pull out my phone every time. To be honest, I find it quite tricky to
use at times, despite my initial enthusiasm. There are so many different features and settings that it
can be overwhelming, especially since I'm not particularly tech-savvy. I often find myself fumbling
around with the buttons and menus, trying to figure out how to do what I want. The instruction manual
was helpful, but even then, some features remain unclear. For instance, I had a hard time figuring out
how to activate the voice assistant and still don't use it as much as I would like.
That being said, I do use it on a daily basis. I wear it pretty much all the time, and I find it really useful
for keeping track of things like my step count, heart rate, and workouts. The watch offers great insight
into my fitness habits and motivates me to be more active. Also, as it syncs up with my phone, I can
receive notifications, and check messages without having to take my phone out of my pocket.
Moreover, the watch is water resistant, which means I can wear it while swimming, and it can track my
swimming workouts. Overall, I have mixed feelings about my smartwatch. On the one hand, I
appreciate its functionality and the way it helps me stay on top of my fitness goals and messages while
on the go. It also looks great and is a conversation starter. On the other hand, I do find it frustrating at
times when I can't figure out how to use a particular feature. But I still see it as a worthwhile
investment that helps me lead a more efficient and active lifestyle.

significant role in creating this association between the iPhone and a certain lifestyle. Despite not
changing drastically from one model to the next, people continue to purchase iPhones because they

Describe an advertisement you have seen but you did not like
You should say:
Where and when you saw it
What the advertisement was for
What you could see in the advertisement
And explain why you did not like the advertisement
Well, one advertisement that really stood out to me was a recent TV commercial for a popular fast food
chain. I remember seeing it a few weeks ago, the ad popped up while I was watching a movie at home.
The advertisement was for a new burger that the restaurant was promoting. The burger was huge,
mouth-watering and was topped with a ridiculous amount of melted cheese, bacon, and other
toppings. The advertisement showed people taking huge bites of the burger and looking super happy
and satisfied. But what really bothered me about the advertisement was the way it portrayed fast food
as a desirable and attractive option. The reality is that fast food is often filled with unhealthy
ingredients and can be a major contributor to obesity and other health problems. By portraying fast
food as something fun and delicious, the advertisement was glossing over the serious health risks that
come with eating too much of it. Furthermore, the advertisement used a lot of persuasive language and
visual tricks to try to make the burger seem even more appealing. For example, they used bright colors
and fast-paced music, and had the narrator describe the burger in exaggerated terms like "the ultimate
indulgence" and "pure heaven." It all felt very manipulative to me. In addition, the advertisement
seemed to target young people in particular. The actors in the ad were all young and attractive, and
there was a lot of emphasis on having fun and being social while eating the burger. This kind of
messaging can be especially dangerous, as young people are often more susceptible to advertising and
may not fully understand the long-term health consequences of eating too much fast food. Overall, I
think that advertisements for fast food should be more honest and transparent about the health risks
involved. While it's okay to enjoy fast food once in a while as a treat, it's not something that should be
promoted as a regular part of a healthy diet. I would prefer to see advertisements that encourage
people to make healthier choices and show that fast food is not the only option when it comes to quick
and convenient meals
- Mouth-watering: having a very good appearance or smell that makes you want to eat
- A ridiculous amount of: a lot of, often too much
- Portray: to represent or describe someone or something
- Desirable: worth having and wanted by most people
- Persuasive: making you want to do or believe a particular thing
- Fast-paced: happening very quickly
- Exaggerate: to make something seem larger, more important, better, or worse than it really is
- Indulgence: occasion where you allow yourself to have something enjoyable, especially more than is
good for you
- Manipulative: tending to influence or control someone or something to your advantage
- Emphasis: the particular importance or attention that is given to something
- Susceptible: easily influenced or harmed by something
- Transparent: open and honest, without secrets

1. What are the most advertised products in your country?
In my country, electronic gadgets are the most heavily advertised products. Companies like Apple and
Samsung spend billions of dollars on advertising their latest smartphones, laptops, and tablets. These
advertisements are everywhere, from television commercials to online banner ads to billboards. The
reason for this is that the electronics industry is highly competitive, and companies need to constantly
promote their products to attract customers. As a result, we see new and innovative features being
advertised almost every day, which can be both exciting and overwhelming for consumers.
- Electronic gadget: devices like phone, computer, tablet, etc.
- Billboard: a very large board on which advertisements are shown

Describe a person you met at a party who you enjoyed talking with
You should say:
What party it was
Who this person is
What you talked about
And explain why you enjoyed talking with him/her
During my first semester at university, I attended a student orientation party hosted by the university's
student union. The party was held at a local pub near campus and was attended by hundreds of new
and returning students. As a freshman, I was a bit nervous and overwhelmed by the crowds and the
noise. However, I quickly found myself in a conversation with a senior student named Sarah, who had a
warm and welcoming personality. She introduced herself and asked me about my major and my
interests. We discovered that we were both studying English literature and had a passion for books and
movies. Sarah was an avid reader and had read many classic and contemporary works of literature. She
recommended some titles to me and gave me some insights into their themes and styles. She also
shared her love of movies and discussed her favorite directors and actors. I was impressed by her
knowledge and her critical thinking skills, and I felt inspired to read and watch more.
As our conversation continued, Sarah gave me some valuable advice on how to succeed in university.
She told me about the importance of time management and organization, and shared some tips on how
to stay focused and motivated. She also introduced me to some of her friends who were studying in the
same major, and invited me to join a student club that focused on literary discussions and debates. I
took Sarah's advice to heart and started applying some of the strategies she suggested. I joined the
student club and found it to be a great way to meet new people and engage in intellectual
conversations. I also started reading more books and discovered new authors and directors that I
enjoyed.
What I liked most about Sarah was her kindness and generosity. She was patient and attentive to my
questions and concerns, and always had a positive and encouraging attitude. She was also a great role
model for me, as she had achieved academic excellence and was involved in various extracurricular
activities. Overall, I enjoyed talking with Sarah because she was a friendly, knowledgeable, and
supportive person. Our conversation was informative, fun, and left me with a sense of belonging and
purpose.

1. In what situations would people be willing to get to know new people?
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
There are many circumstances where people are often more inclined to socialize with strangers. For
example, joining clubs or organizations related to one's interests or hobbies can provide a natural and
enjoyable way to connect with like-minded individuals. Attending workshops or seminars related to
one's profession or industry can also provide an excellent opportunity to network and meet new
people. And taking part in community service or volunteering can also be a great way to meet others
who share a passion for giving back and making a difference in the world.
- Circumstance: an event or condition connected with what is happening or has happened
- Incline: to (make someone) feel something or want to do something
- Like-minded: people who share the same opinions, ideas, or interests
- Network: to meet people who might be useful to know, especially in your job
4. Is it difficult for people in your country to communicate with people from other countries?
In my country and many others, communicating with people from different cultures and countries can
be challenging. Language barriers can pose a significant obstacle, especially when neither party is fluent
in the other's language. This can lead to miscommunications and misunderstandings that hinder
effective communication. Moreover, cultural differences can also impact communication, as different
countries may have varying social norms, values, and expectations around communication styles and
topics. Additionally, biases or stereotypes about other cultures can create misunderstandings or
barriers to building positive relationships.

Describe a person you have met who you want to work/study with
You should say:
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
Who this person is?
How you met this person?
How long you have known him/her?
And explain why you want to work/study with him/her
Well, there's one person from high school who really stands out to me as someone I would love to work
or study with, and that's my former classmate. Her name is Sarah. From the very beginning, I was
impressed by her intellect and her curiosity. She always asked insightful questions and was never
satisfied with surface level answers. I was always impressed by her eloquence and her ability to
articulate complex ideas in a way that was both persuasive and poetic. She had a way with words that
was truly remarkable, and I learned so much from her just by listening to her speak. I think she was a
cut above the rest.
What I always admired about Sarah was her work ethic and her dedication to whatever task she was
working on. She never settled for anything less than her best, and she always pushed herself to go
above and beyond what was required. But what really set her apart, I think, was her ability to
collaborate with others. Even when we were in groups with people who didn't pull their weight, Sarah
never got frustrated or angry. Instead, she would find a way to motivate us all and get us back on track.
Looking back, I think what made Sarah such a great collaborator was her natural leadership skills. She
wasn't bossy or overbearing, but she had a way of guiding the group and keeping us all focused on the
task at hand. She was also great at delegating tasks and making sure that everyone had a role to play.
And when it came time to present our work, Sarah was always calm and collected, able to articulate our
ideas clearly and confidently.
If I had the chance to work or study with Sarah again, I would jump at it in a heartbeat. I think our
shared interests and complementary skill sets would make us a great team. I'm good at brainstorming
and coming up with creative ideas, while Sarah is great at executing those ideas and making sure
they're polished and professional. Plus, I know that she would push me to be my best and challenge me
to think more critically about my work.

I've been lucky to have an incredibly interesting old neighbor named Mr. Johnson. I first met him a few
years ago when I moved into my apartment complex. Despite being in his mid 70s, It wasn't until a few
months after we first met that I learned he was a hyperpolyglot who can speak over 10 languages
fluently! We would often bump into each other in the communal garden. Over time, I got to know Mr.
Johnson better, and we began to spend more time together. One day, Mr. Johnson invited me over to
his apartment for tea and to show me some of his language books and resources. As we chatted over
tea, he showed me some of the books he used to learn new languages and some of the techniques he
used to memorize vocabulary and grammar rules. I was amazed at how quickly he could switch
between languages and how effortlessly he could explain things in different ways to help me
understand.
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
What I find most inspiring about Mr. Johnson is his dedication to language learning even at his age. He's
constantly challenging himself to learn new languages and to deepen his understanding of the ones he
already knows. He's also incredibly knowledgeable about the cultures and histories of the countries
where these languages are spoken, which adds depth and richness to his conversations. It's not just his
language skills that make him interesting - it's his whole outlook on life. He's always curious about other
cultures and people, and he's traveled all over the world. He has stories about living in different
countries, meeting people from all walks of life, and experiencing different ways of living. I think Mr.
Johnson is an incredibly interesting person, not just because of his incredible ability to speak so many
languages, but also because of his dedication to lifelong learning and his passion for staying active and
engaged. He has shown me that age is no barrier to learning new things and that there is always more
to discover about the world around us.
- Hyperpolyglot: person who masters or becomes fluent in many different languages (six or more)
- Effortless: seeming not to need any effort
- Walk of life: different types of jobs and different levels of society
Part 3
1. Do you think old people and young people can share interests?
No, I don't believe that old and young people can share interests. While they may have some common
ground, their age and life experiences often lead them to have different interests and hobbies. For
example, older people may prefer activities that are more relaxed and low-key, while younger people
may enjoy more adventurous and high-energy pursuits. That being said, it's still important to keep an
open mind and be willing to learn from others, regardless of their age.
- Low-key: quiet and without a great show of excitement
- Regardless of: without being influenced by any other events or conditions
3. Is it easy for young people and old people to make friends with each other?
I think that making friends across generations can be challenging, but it's certainly possible with effort
and an open mind. For many people, it may be easier to relate to others who are in a similar stage of
life or who have similar interests. However, it's important to remember that age should not be a barrier
to friendship. When people are open-minded and willing to learn from each other, age becomes less
important. Moreover, intergenerational friendships can offer unique benefits, such as the chance to
learn from different life experiences and perspectives.
- Perspective: a particular way of considering something:
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- Open-minded: willing to consider ideas and opinions that are new or different to your own
- Intergenerational: involving different generations
4. Are there benefits when one person is interested in another person? Why?
Absolutely, there are many benefits when one person is interested in another person. First and
foremost, showing interest in someone can help to build a connection and establish a relationship. By
expressing interest in their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, you are showing them that you value
and care about them. This can help to create a sense of trust and intimacy, which are essential
components of any healthy relationship. Furthermore, showing interest in others can help to improve
your communication skills. By asking thoughtful questions and actively listening to the responses, you
can become a better communicator and develop stronger interpersonal skills.
- Intimacy: the state of having a close, personal relationship or romantic relationship with someone
- Component: a particular feature or part of something
- Interpersonal: connected with relationships between people
5. Do you think people are more selfish or self-centered now than in the past?
I don't necessarily believe that people are more selfish or self-centered now than in the past. But in
some ways, modern society encourages us to focus on our individual needs and desires, rather than on
the needs of others or the community as a whole. The rise of social media and technology has made it
easier for people to focus on their own image and self-promotion, leading to a culture of self-
centeredness. Social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook are built around the idea of self-
expression and self-promotion, which can encourage people to prioritize their own needs and desires
over those of others.
- Self-promotion: the action of promoting or publicizing oneself or one's activities

When you saw the film?
What the character was like in this film?
And explain why you admire this actor/actress
One of my all-time favorite film characters is the role of "Forrest Gump," portrayed by Tom Hanks in the
1994 American film "Forrest Gump.". I first watched the movie a few years ago and was instantly
captivated by the heartwarming and inspiring story of Forrest Gump. He is a simple man with a low IQ
who often struggles to understand the complexities of the world around him but he is also an incredibly
perceptive individual who is able to cut through the noise and see things in a straightforward and
honest way. One of the things that makes him so endearing is his unwavering optimism in the face of
adversity. He faces numerous challenges throughout the film, from bullying and rejection as a child to
losing his best friend and love interest in adulthood. Despite these setbacks, he never loses his sense of
hope and continues to approach the world with an open and trusting heart.
Forrest's deep sense of loyalty and love for those around him is also another defining characteristic of
his character. He forms strong bonds with his mother, his best friend, and his love interest Jenny, and is
willing to do anything to protect and support them. His love for Jenny, in particular, is a driving force
throughout the film, and provides a poignant emotional arc for the character. Tom Hank's performance
perfectly captures the character's innocence, honesty, and unwavering optimism, making him a truly
lovable and unforgettable character. What I admire most about Tom Hanks as an actor is his ability to
convey complex emotions with subtlety and nuance. In "Forrest Gump," he portrays the character's
struggles with rejection, loss, and discrimination with grace and sensitivity, making the audience feel
deeply connected to his character's journey. Tom Hanks' portrayal of Forrest Gump is a masterclass in
acting. He brought the character of Forrest Gump to life in a way that not many actors could have done.
His portrayal of Forrest Gump will always be one of my all-time favorite movie characters.
- Perceptive: very good at noticing and understanding things that many people do not notice
- Unwavering: never changing or becoming weaker
- Adversity: a difficult or unlucky situation or event
- Driving force: someone or something that has the power to make things happen:
- Poignant: causing or having a very sharp feeling of sadness
- Subtlety: a small but important detail
- Nuance: a very slight difference in appearance, meaning, sound, etc.
- Bring to life: make something active, lively, or interesting.

1. Are actors or actresses very interested in their work? Why?
Well, I can't speak for all actors and actresses, but I would guess that most of them are very interested
in their work. After all, acting is a highly competitive and demanding profession that requires a lot of
hard work and dedication. It's not a career that most people would pursue if they weren't deeply
passionate about it. From what I've seen, actors and actresses tend to be very committed to their craft.
They put in a lot of time and effort into honing their skills and perfecting their performances. They often
work long hours and are constantly pushing themselves to be better. I think this level of dedication
speaks to a deep interest and passion for the art of acting.
- Profession: any type of work that needs special training or a particular skill
- Dedication: the willingness to give a lot of time and energy to something because it is important
- Passionate: having very strong feelings or emotions
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
- Commit to: to promise or give your loyalty, time, or money to a particular principle, person, or plan
of action
- Hone: to make something better or completely suitable for its purpose
5. What are the differences between actors or actresses who earn much and those who earn little?
PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 1
The differences between high-earning and low-earning actors or actresses can be quite significant.
High-earning actors or actresses are usually well-known and have established reputations within the
industry. They may have won awards, been in several successful productions, or have a large following
on social media. This can lead to more opportunities and higher salaries. They may have more
bargaining power when it comes to negotiating contracts. They may be able to demand higher salaries
or better working conditions due to their reputation and experience. On the other hand, those who
earn less may have to take on lower-paying roles or work longer hours to make ends meet.
- Establish: to start a company, organization, relationship that will continue for a long time
- Reputation: how much respect or admiration someone or something receives, based on past
behaviour or character
- Bargain: to try to reach agreement with someone in order to get a lower price
- Negotiate: to have formal discussions with someone in order to reach an agreement with them
- Make ends meet: to have just enough money to pay for the things that you need
6. What are the differences between acting in a theatre and that in a film?
Acting in theatre and film are two quite different experiences, each with their own unique challenges
and rewards. In theatre, actors typically perform live on stage, with no opportunity for retakes or
editing. This requires a lot of rehearsal and preparation, as well as a strong ability to project and engage
with the audience. In contrast, acting in film involves a lot of stopping and starting, with scenes filmed
out of order and often with a lot of downtime between takes. This requires a different kind of focus and
concentration, as well as an ability to deliver consistent performances in different contexts.
- Rehearsal: a time when all the people involved in a play, dance, etc. practice in order to prepare for
a performance
- Downtime: time when you relax and do not do very much
- Deliver: to achieve, provide, or produce something
- Consistent: always behaving or happening in a similar, especially positive, way
