1. AIM

Establish the procedure for the tightness test of the PVC sanitary pipe, in the Boilers Balance and NGLP
control rooms.

2. SCOPE

This procedure defines the steps to follow to test the tightness of the PVC sanitary pipe, which is part of
Contract No MA-0014283. “PRESSURIZATION OF THE CONTROL ROOMS OF THE GRB OF ECOPETROL
SA, DETAIL ENGINEERING, PURCHASING, ASSEMBLY AND COMMISSIONING OF THE ASSOCIATED
SYSTEMS.”

3. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS

4. RESPONSIBLE STAFF

The personnel responsible for the normal development and compliance of these procedures is the following:

 Project Manager.
 Resident engineer.
 civil inspector
 QA/QC Specialist
 HSE Coordinator.
 Ecopetrol SA Staff and Technical Management.

5. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND INDUSTRIAL SAFETY

To carry out the work safely, the following must be taken into account:

 Dissemination of the respective risk analysis to the personnel involved where industrial safety issues
corresponding to the activity to be carried out are discussed.
 Before starting the activity, the work area must be inspected, taking into account the respective controls
that guarantee a safe work environment, testing for toxic and/or volatile gases, correctly demarcating the
area, among others.
 Carry out pre-operational inspection of equipment and tools to verify the existence of the appropriate
equipment for the activity to be carried out and that it is in good condition.
 Provide workers with the appropriate individual protection elements for the activities to be carried out.
 Place preventive and regulatory signs that alert workers about the risks of the activity to be carried out, as
well as possible evacuation routes.
 Comply with the disposal of solid waste according to the logistics plan defined for the contract.

 At the end of the activity, remove the equipment that is no longer required and leave the work area in
complete order and cleanliness.

5.1 PERSONAL PROTECTION ITEMS

 Mask for organic and/or particulate vapors
 Safety boots with toe
 Safety gloves
 Safety glasses
 Auditive protectors
 industrial clothing

6. ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS

 All personnel must wear hearing protection to mitigate the impact caused by noise generation.
 All waste obtained during the execution of this activity must be taken to the defined site for debris disposal.
 At the end of the activity, remove the equipment that is no longer required and leave the work area in
complete order and cleanliness.
 Comply with environmental regulations regarding the transportation and disposal of debris.

7. PROCESS OF THE EXECUTION

7.1. PRELIMINARIES

 Obtain the Work Permit before starting work.

 Before the start of work, a pre-operational inspection of the equipment to be used in the activity must be
carried out.

7.2. DEVELOPMENT OF THE ACTIVITY

 The tightness tests will be carried out once the drain and overflow pipes have been installed, including
accessories, plugs and valves necessary to carry out the tightness tests. Likewise, the pipes must be
finished and clean. The supply of water necessary to carry out the tightness tests must be guaranteed by
ECOPETROL SA in coordination with the Technical Management of the contract.

 The leak test must establish a method to detect leaks of approximately 0.1 gal/h or the value agreed with
the Technical Management of the contract.

 Identify and demarcate the areas where the Test will be carried out.

 Identification and approval of the pipe sections that will undergo hydrostatic testing.

 Once the sections of PVC pipe have been approved by the Management, the respective seals will be
installed for testing.

 Establish the fill and drain points of the test.

 The pipe begins to fill with water

 When the pipe is filled with water, an inspection of the tightness of the entire section is carried out. If
there is any problem or leak, the test will be suspended and the applicable corrective measures will be
taken. If there is no abnormality, the test is continued.

 An internal guide line must be marked on the pipe to see if the water level drops.

 It must be verified that there is no porosity or cracking in the pipe.

 Prepare records of the behavior of the pipe during the test, establishing observation time periods.

 Request the Technical Management of the contract to verify and approve the evidence obtained during
this process.

 The pipe is emptied.

 Once the activity has been carried out, the construction site must be left clean.

8. EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS

The equipment and tools required to carry out this activity are:

 Hoses for water supply.


 Accessories for joints and seals.
 Hand keys.
